  1. I have two humminbird helix 7s. One is the chirp mega g3n and the other is the same but without the network capabilities. First of all, can you share tips on how you like to setup your humminbird helix? Second, what’s the best way to connect the two so they can communicate with each other? Right now I have the g3n at the helm and it has the lakemaster chip in it. Would love to be able to share the maps with my front helix as well as marked points. Thanks again everyone!
  2. Any other thoughts on this? I fish in NC and the lakes I fish on don’t have a great deal of grass/Lily pad fields...so it’s more docks and cover work. That’s why I’m thinking a 6’6 heavy rod. Thoughts?
  3. Love this! That's why I enjoy it as well. I guess I should have specified how you do this on a new lake. Unfortunately at this point in my life, I just don't have time to get out and get confident that the bass are actually there...somewhere. It looks like everyone just comes down to using all the knowledge they have gained to comprise an educated guess if the fish are there in that pocket. does anyone use sidescan before they fish a cove/bank to see if they see fish? No idea if this works or not.
  4. So how do you know the fish are there? Fishfinder, history, birds in area... I understand going over them in deeper water and seeing them in your graph, but when you are fishing shallows...how are you confident in determining inactive fish vs no fish? One outcome you have to change locations but the other, you could change locations or change bait. and thanks nitty for posting that video of the pros discussing this...nice to know others have the same question and I’m not crazy ha. Thanks
  5. anyone else have any experience with this dobyns rod? Was also looking to use this as a frog rod...I like a little shorter rod so it's easier to work. Thanks
  6. Awesome. I'll give it a try. Any others out there? thanks again
  7. Not real sure what your point is. Are you trying to say that switching baits/presentations has no effect? Can you help by sharing what you do in this situation?
  8. This is the kind of stuff that confuses me. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the comment. But I fish on a couple lakes (only ones close to me) that are notoriously bad for fishing. Lots of ppl I hear of or know, blank frequently. So it’s not easy for me to think that they are just “there’”. If I knew for sure, then I would go thoroughly through them three or four times with various presentations (crank, jig, stick bait...). I just am thinking about in the past when I’ve been on my boat and have just finished going through a pocket/point and didn’t get a bite. I always think, should I just keep moving down the bank:docks covering water, or should I go back through and switch up the presentation and go with a different lure. I know every situation is different...I’m just looking to hear what you guys typically do. Just trying to reduce doubt and develop a routine that creates confidence
  9. Thanks. Yeh I guess when ppl talk about covering water fast during the spring power fishing...how do you know if there just aren’t fish there or you are using the wrong lure? So if you are running and gumming with a spinnerbait, and you haven’t gotten a bite after 30 docks....was it the lure or no bass? How do you decide what to do? Trying to determine how to have confidence in your search bait.
  10. So I’m watching a lot of these YouTube (Roland Martin, bassresource...) and a lot of times they mention that the bass just weren’t wanting that lure that day and something else worked much better. I understand when you are fishing deep and using your ff to locate fish and you know they are there, that if they aren’t biting to switch presentations. But if you are just hitting docks or riorap and just aren’t getting bit, how do you know whether the bass just aren’t in that location or it’s your choice of lures? Do you use sidescan to look at the area before fishing it so you know there are bass there? All of these guys talk about switching up your presentation if they don’t want that lure, but how do you know if they just aren’t in that location? Thanks everyone for helping this beginner!
  11. Hey everyone, looking for a ps4 game for the kids to play. Would love to find one that’s challenging and teaches you about fishing, while at the same time being fun. Any suggestions? Thank you!
  12. So just wanted to follow up. For right now I chose to go with the megabass whipsnake for my drop shot rod, the 7’ expride medium for my general ned/senko/shakyhead rod, and a st croix premier for my carolina rig/light swimbait. Think that will work? I may switch to a loom is later on, but have heard such great things about the exprides
  13. Yes, I think a frog rod is my biggest hole right now. I don't really like a real long frog rod (<7') so I guess that will be my next investment. any other thoughts? Thanks again
  14. This is how I am planning to use them...any tips or corrections? My Shimano slx 7'10" was bought for a deep diving crankbait rod (6-10XD). Dobyns 705 is my main cranking rod. My main questions are: spinnerbait, frog, squarebills, and topwater. Which would you use throw those? You can see in my applications which one's I am planning to use but would love some feedback.
  15. LOL. Sorry I didn't complete that thought...would love to hear other's thoughts on the rod/reel lineup. But thank you though for the humor!!
  16. Yes that's why I said this is just for fun and not looking for serious advice to shape all my decisions. Just like to get others perspectives.... I am not able to get out very often (have 3 small children) so I like to get others thoughts; that way when I do go out, I have a more specific area I am testing. Thanks again for your thoughts! Would love to hear others.
  17. Great idea. I actually just picked up the whipsnake and expride (which is replacing the st croix) so I’ll have to see how things go in the future with the spinning rods. Yeh I think you are right. Still trying to figure out which reel should go with which rod. Have been really impressed with the dc version!
  18. Ok, before everyone starts lecturing me...this is just for fun I have been using most of these for awhile and I know what lures I use with each. But I have added several lately and while I do have a very good idea what I will use them for (since they were bought for a particular purpose), I thought it would be fun (and educational) to see what you all would do if you had my setup. I numbered them so if you just want to refer to the number and then list what style/lure you would primarily fish it with, that would be cool. And bonus points if you want to add any additional info (ie secondary lure, line..). Finally, would love to hear what you think my next rod should be if you see a hole in the setup. Again, this is just for fun...I'm not looking for serious advice; just looking for what you would do if these were your rods. Have a great day!
  19. You guys are killing me ha. I just ordered the mxf. Well, I guess we will see how it does. To me, it seems the xf will work better with jerkbait and topwater (spooks) allowing a more twitchy action. Guess we shall see. Thank you to everyone and their advice!
  20. So just got off the phone with St. Croix. They recommended the 6'6" or 6'8" MF as a jerkbait...ha. He said he doesn't recommend the xf due to it being more likely to break Go figure
  21. Yeh I saw that. Thanks. Wasn't real conclusive. I guess I'll just go with the avid x. Any other thoughts?
