  1. Hello, could use some advice. I am new to boat ownership. I have a 20 foot Robalo with a f150 yamaha. I keep it outside but covered. I do plan to use it every once in a while during the winter to bass fish. What do I need to do to prepare it for freezing weather? Thank you all!
  2. Thank you!! Yeh I had pretty good luck with a 3xd shad. Was hoping to find a lmb but only got spots. But they are fun to catch...had a two ponder but mostly 1-1.5 lbs. I think I ended up with around 10. Thanks again for the help!
  3. Just got on the lake last night. Definitely a tough lake to navigate at night...lots of shoals! Didn’t have any luck this morning...high wind. Only had an hour or so. Just did topwater mostly. Any other tips?
  4. Ok thanks! Anyone else? Unfortunately, I won't have a ton of time, so I'll probably stick to the south side of the lake. Thanks again!
  5. Ok thanks! Can you give me some coves/branches to give a try at? Or just any? Is more the more north on the lake you go the better? Thanks again!
  6. Thanks again everyone for the tips and advice I went ahead and got a Dobyns Sierra flippin stick MH 7’6 for $100 so thought that was pretty good. So I thought I was done for awhile. Then my dumb friend called and said gander is going out of business in our area. So now I have a st croci mojo 6’6 casting rod and a st croix premier series spinning rod 7M. LOL I just couldn’t pass up 40% off I think I have a problem....
  7. Hey, looking to head down to lake norman next week for a few days. I've never been on the lake. I'll be staying on the southside close to Lucky creek. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I was looking to get the lakemaster chip but noticed Lake Norman isn't on it. Can anyone confirm this? I was shocked to see that. Will be looking to do early morning (dawn) and then also some evening/night fishing. Thanks!
  8. Thank you!!
  9. Thanks that's a great read! So looks like most have said they bank fish if it's closer to new moon and fish deep if it's closer to full moon. Anyone else any thoughts? I love bank fishing but when trying to use no lights, sometimes it's hard to see cover/structure and get the line wrapped around limbs or something too much. tips? Also, didn't see anything about how they work a worm at night. (fishing worm that is...) Do you continue to sweep the rod and then let it drop, or just a slow retrieve and let the tail do the work?
  10. Ok so I went fishing last night in a pond and caught 8 LMBs. So I've got the bug a little ha...other than losing a few lures because I can't see anything lol. I am going on a trip next week and will be staying at a lake all week and thought I might do a little night fishing. I have been out a few other times at night on the lake and have struggled a little. Can anyone give me tips on where to fish? Do you treat it just like daytime, and either fish deep or run down the banks? Do you mostly fish by graph? One last question, when fishing a worm with a curly tail, do you just treat like any trig and slowly raise the rod and real as you lower it, or do you just do a very slow and steady retrieve and let the tail create the vibrations? Thanks again for the help!
  11. Thanks everyone for your input and help! Gives me lots to research! Looks like I'll be adding at least two! Thanks again!
  12. Looks good. Can you tell us what the specifics are and how you use them? Thanks
  13. So how many are using 2 or more spinning rods with your setup? And if you do, how do you use them?
  14. Ding! We have a winner! WOW! I’m impressed with the organization!
  15. Yeh I am the same. I would love to hear more about what people are using for spinning setups and why. Also looking for advice on a good flipping/pitching rod. But love hearing everyone's setups...
  16. That’s a great idea! Yeh i slipped the kids rods and went straight to spinning reels. They are doing pretty good with them. I’m just not trying to push them at this point. Any other thoughts on rod/reel setups? I’m really surprised how few use spinning reels. Very interesting.
  17. which part? I assume you are referring to the "getting my wife on board" lol yeh I don't like my chances. Going to try to get my boys more involved as they get older. Thanks again for the advice. Any other thoughts?
  18. Thanks! Yeh, I'm not looking to sell any rigs to buy another one. Money isn't really an issue. I'm just looking to pick up another (or two) combos...just trying to think it through. I am actually really happy with my current combos (excluding the one spinning setup). I'm no professional so I doubt I could tell a huge difference between a nice $400-500 combo vs a $1000 setup, so I'll probably just stick with a good middle of the range rig $150-250 rod and same reel). To me, I would rather just grab a different rod real quick if I get a short strike, and want to follow it up with something different instead of stopping and tying on a different bait. Obviously, I'm not going to be happy throwing an ugly stick just in order to have another rod...but if I can do it with a st croix, dobyns, or megabass. And I figure, if I am going to buy another, might as well get a rod that fills a gap in my setup. At this point in my life, I would feel kindof dumb having $5k-7k in rods, when I'm only fishing a couple times a month. I'm still somewhat new to fishing, but am really loving it. Now if I could just get my wife more on board lol
  19. I find I want more rod/reel combos just so I don’t have to swap out baits so often when I’m out on the water. I usually have a limited time going out so it’s nice I can have my docs and baits ready the night before. I’ve been night fishing more lately and spinning rods are nice bc can’t see where lure is and so less chance of backlash. When you are skipping a lure under cover or dock, do you use spinning or bait caster? I am guessing most use baitcadtrr but I have tried it lately and keep getting backlash if I do t hit it correctly. Spinning real seams easier. I know it’s my fault though and just need to work on my technique. Two questions on gear. If going with two spinning rods, what flex do you go for on each? Second, if you were going to try to have one rod to do frog, pitching and flipping...what would the specifics you would want (eg length, power,..). Thanks and let’s keep hearing your rods. Love seeing all the cool brands i haven’t heard of
  20. Awesome! It would be cool to see what everyone uses each rod for too
  21. Wow that's quite the variety. Mind sharing what you use each rod for? Thanks
  22. Wow those are some nice setups!! Looks like I’ll need to be adding both ha. So how many spinning rods do you take? I think I would like one rigged with a dropshot and one with either shakyhead or wacky rig. My other rod to add will probably be a flipping/frog rod. I assume I’ll try to find a 7’3 H. Thanks again and love seeing the variety
  23. I've got 3 baitcaster rods right now and 2 spinning rods. One of my spinning rods is really for ICW fishing...so a little heavy. Trying to decide if I should just replace the spinning rod and get a nicer combo, or add another casting rod, or both lol. I've got a mixture of brands: Shimano SLX DC, SCurado K, and Shimano SLX casting, and Shimano stradic Ci4 for spinning. Rods are Dobyns glass, lews TP1 and st croix avid. St croix mojo for spinning rod. How do you roll?
