  1. Do you have shad in your water? Threadfin shad will create this effect if close to the surface.
  2. I’m curious if anyone would participate in a club where there would be no entry fees but no money won in each tournament. I like to compete but I don’t want to put money at stake, simply bragging rights. This would open the club up to those on a limited budget. This idea came to me to after I was diagnosed with stage IV lymphoma and the following life changes. Sometimes it takes something bad to figure out what you would like to be able to do in life. If the general consensus is yes, I will try to start something local.
  3. Crankbaits and jigs are like an addiction to me. Despite having Rubbermaid containers full of “reserve” stock in my fishing room I still feel a need to have more. I rotate many 3700 boxes of specific types through my boat based on season and where I will be fishing. Winter is the season I will have 3 crankbait setups on my deck. I have a 3700 box of DTs ready to go. Between the shad rap and the Spro boxes.
  4. This adventure would be much more complex than you seem to believe it will be. You should start by researching how to run a business and then specifics to this industry. Although there are a lot of members that do not like the Googans and their approach, I think most would acknowledge that they put in a considerable amount of work to get to a position where putting a name on a lure leads to sales. Good luck but proceed with care.
  5. I had 5 within a couple ounces of each other at 6 lbs.+/-so I think they are all worth noting. Four were on jigs with a z craw trailer, the second largest was on a squarebill.
  6. I’m not sure if it will catch fish but trimming off the barbell section and any other pieces unnecessary for the vibration action will reduce mass
  7. If the lake you are referring to is Bowen, I would carefully consider the options. I think the fishing is much better at Hartwell and if you are interested in staying local to that area, I prefer the fishing at Blaylock which limits fishing boats to 30hp. Is the idea to trade in or to get a second boat? If I was wanting one boat I would get an aluminum with a 30. This would allow you to fish all 3 lakes and that would reduce gas money as well.
  8. It was duct seal that I use for shoot through hull. Please disregard the plumber putty statement, they are not the same. Install exactly as described by jaimeastin. The issue is partly because the hull is not flat and it comes off. Also because I will sometimes paddle my kayak over branches or rocks in shallow water and that would not work if the transducer was the deepest part of the hull.
  9. The suction cup does not work for me. I mounted inside with Duct seal putty and shoot through the hull. The arm may allow you to get a better temperature reading though if you prefer that route. It also allows more flexibility to move the unit from boat to boat. I have never had the battery die so it will definitely last more than 8 hours.
  10. I don’t know of any but would also be interested
  11. I am only in need of a few colors. I always use a version of brown, purple, green and/or black when tying bottom contact jigs. I cut a fox tail into sections and the dye worked well. There was slight variation in the shades of purple depending on the starting color of the fur underneath but I like the way it turned out. I will have to fish it a while to see how it holds up.
  12. I have been on a hair jig kick lately and I am wondering if anyone has any good methods of modifying hair jig colors after they are already tied. I was thinking that a sharpie may work to add dark accent colors. Will it hold its color? Will it change the texture of the hair? Averse scent/taste to bass? I have both craft and natural hair and I haven’t tried acid dying yet but may start doing that before tying if I have a specific pattern in mind.
  13. Sending hope and prayers your way. I was diagnosed with stage IV lymphoma 2 years ago from yesterday at 31 years old. Life can be tough sometimes, but we can hope for the best.
  14. This makes feel for you. I consider the end of my season the beginning of July when air temp gets to 98 and sunny with 90+ water temperatures. At least I get to go out and make a few casts into liquid water even though it is difficult to catch until October. I will most likely catch my biggest of the year before your ice out. Hopefully a trip down south is in the works for you.
  15. I have always avoided ethanol in small engines and outboards. I think ethanol is tougher on the engine because of heat produced. In theory, ethanol should burn cooler than gas but if the air/fuel ratio of the engine is set up for pure gasoline the ethanol fuel burns “leaner” and increases engine temp. Adjustments could be made in oxygen intake to allow for the mix.

  17. I agree that the fish don’t care about the appearance but I find that the head retains its shape much better when powder coated. Maybe a bad batch of powder? I bake at 350 for about 20 minutes, dip in powder and then bake for 20 minutes to cure.
  18. I switched to a left hand baitcaster 4 months ago and it immediately became my favorite. I have picked up 3 new set ups since. I’m a right handed cancer survivor so my switch was made out of necessity because I can’t feel my hands when it is cold. I can’t explain it, but the dominant arm can still detect a subtle jig bite in the cold. I hope that you enjoy the change as much as I have. The only rod suggestion would be to not get in too deep with a very expensive rod. You should be able to find a reasonably priced shorter rod until you decide if you like it. Berkley lightning?
  19. Apalachee is for residents only so I haven’t been there. I would think it would be good with bank fishing. I’ve caught 4 over 5 lbs on Cunningham this year but not from the bank. Cunningham is the first impoundment above Apalachee on the same river.
  20. There are several good small bodies of water to fish in the area. Honestly, the fishing in these ponds is better from a kayak but bank access is possible. I fish one of the two reservoirs in Greer almost every day, but since I live at Robinson it is very convenient to fish even for 30 minutes. They would be about 15 to 30 minutes from Duncan depending on which side and what time of day.
  21. Thanks for the help. After breaking 2 good ones off on braid with 17lb flouro leader, I switched to straight braid. A couple af casts later it happened again. Despite my best efforts to get her out immediately she got terribly tangled in a tree. After 10 minutes of manipulation I finally landed her, 5lb 5oz. Not my biggest this spring, but definitely worth catching. I will be sticking with straight braid from now on.
  22. Thank you for taking the time to answer. I try to get them out immediately but unfortunately it’s the big girls that have a tendency to stay put in the thick stuff. I think the first thing is to not panic when one gets stuck. I usually have the hook set well in the upper mouth. I will try to take a breath and find the best option and maybe giving them a little slack. I like the applying equal pressure idea.
  23. Lately I have been fishing jigs in heavy cover and submerged structure such as blown down trees. While I am able to land a lot of fish, it is sometimes a struggle getting them out when they get really tangled up. What are the best strategies for extracting large fish that are tangled around submerged wood?
