What knots do you use?
i use a grip knot. it has been tested at 100 % line strength. i cant find any links on how to tie it but here is the short of it. line thruogh eye and double over make five turns around both lines and pass tag end through all five loops and cinch it down

Line Twist
i use both baitcasting and spinning gear. i usually spool them the same as baitcasting reels with the line coming off the top instead of the bottom. the line spooling station from bass pro for 20 smacks is great for both reels. i saw i show however where KVD will take a bullet sinker about 3/8 oz and a hook with no lure and cast it out and reel it back in a couple times and the twith is gone. also twist affects mono mush more than braid or other superlines

Can bass see my braided line? Does it matter?
well i consider myself a pro with braided line. there are some do's and some don'ts with braided line that you must adhere to if you want success. the same goes with mono but we will talk about braid. i started using briad way back when the first spiderwire came out in the 90's. it was moss green and out of the pack it had the most wonderful green color. it was also, if some of you old time braid users remember, a "flat braid". it wasn't round like the briads of today are. braided line will lose its color and turn white with use and this is your main problem with braided line. as for the part about wether the fish care, go out and buy yourself a copy of Homer Circle's BASS WISDOM. $14.95 i think. most bookstores carry it. in it you will leard tha bass can have "personality" differences and intelligence differences just as humans do and all other creatures on the planet. theirs are just not as complex as humans.look for the section where he talks about the fish that were tagged in a lake and you will learn some things you never knew. any wayhere are your keys to success with briad. use a much lighter size 50lb is like winch cable. its just way to heavy for freshwater use. bass spook easy. do you think a bass is goin to eat your fake plastic lure after it just watched its favorite stump or tree limb get dragged away because you didnt want to lose a 5 dollar plug{less than 1 dollar for plastic worms}go with something much lighter. and dont be afraid to break or cut your line!!!!!if you cut it go back and get it later when you are done for the day go to walmart or target and get the big pack of sharpies with all the different colors. you will need a few of them. black, a couple shades of the darker green colors, brown shades, and a carolina blue one. experiment with how the colors mix and use them to put color back in your line. its like camo for braid. ma if you choose to use a mono leader remember to retie the joining knot frequently and especially after you land a bigone. you might want to consider a different type of supleline such as berkley fireline. it does not fade and as available in mush lighter sizes. i prefer 8 and 10 lb myself. it also gives the same ran over a brick with a lawnmower feel like the spiderwire does. also remember that braid digs in on the spool when subjected to some hard tugging. also remember that you dont have to set the hook as hard because the line does not stretch using these tips should help alot. especially the fireline( the jury is still out on the new crystal though)i like the smoke color let us know your results on the water

Help
this might sound bad and ruin my reputaion but my favorite spinning outfit came from walmart. its a 40 dollar shakespeare outfit that came as a combo set. it it an 6'6" im7 rod and the reel that came on it has proven to be more reliable than some other reels that cost me 3 times as much. its been overboard twice. once in saltwater and rained on at least half a dozen times. i just spray it with some reel magic and its good as new. however if i had to but a new outfit i would get the quantum. the bail wire is somewhat flexible so if you happen to step on in your boat it wont be FUBAR

Backlash removal
i learned this trick from bassin magazine... take a 1 oz pyramid sinker by itself and cast it as far as you can. it wont likely backlash because the sinker doesnt really loose that much velocity when you throw it. your normal lures usually wont ever cast further than this will beacuse of their size and wind resistance. now take some electrical tape and wrap one time around the spool stretching it as you go. the backlash will never go deeper than this and will be very very easy to pick out using either method described above. tip: use 3M super 33. it doesnt get gummy in the heat and it doesnt dry up like the cheap stuff does. now keep it in your tackle box. you never know when you might need an emergency band-aid. trust me it works well

Norman Speed Clips For Cranks?
they are fine on cranks because they allow more side to side wiggle. cranks also sometimes have a small split ring where the line tie is or on the hooks. this will help prevent the leverage thing on cranks. they dont work as well on soft plastics because they will help weeds and other junk build up on the nose of your lures, and the slower presentasion will allow the fish to get a better look at your clip. they can also leverage the hook better on a plastic because there is no split ring

ZOOM SUPER FLUKES
try ebay. there are sometimes some large lots for sale

Crank bait storage MESS
if there is a bass pro near you go there and take a look at their new hardbait organizer. they come in 2 different sizes. if not check out the website. each one will hold about 40 baits. i use mine for cranks, poppers and jigs. this is an awesome tray and costs $9.99 item #21-425-438-00 medium 14x9 1/2x2 item #21-423-070-00 large 14x9 1/2x2 1/2 this tray is double sided and has V shaped channels that hold the lures and keep the hooks from tanglin up. i have one myself and it is by far the best way i have ever found. check it out and let me know what you think. i like it better than the falcon because you can put more of a variety of lures in the tray. you dont need a special tray for each type of lure like falcons do

Is there such a thing as too much fishing?
your mom is worried. being a parent myself i would much rather have my child out fishing instead of out drinking.no one else mentioned it but have you ever invited your mom and dad to go fishing with you. you will almost always create a memory that will last the rest of your lives. remember this one fact that im sure everone here with children will agree on as you get older the things that once made you cry will make you laugh, and the things that once made you laugh will make you cry

how often do you find a solid pattern
the largest body of water i fish with any regularity is a golf course pod that is about 3 or 4 acres. however there are about four or five patterns i usually pick up on. in the spring a fluke and a pop r usually do the trick. when that slows down any thing with appendages does well. these are fished weightless on a texas rig. in the fall a june bug senko seems to be the trick also weightless. be carefull as you read thai because the only cover i have in most of the ponds aruond here is weeds around the edges. thats it. and the water is only about 3 to six ft deep. so finding a pattern is somewhat easier

Weight Guess Revisited
what is this snow you speak of. i think i remember snow once. is it that white flaky stuff that falls from the sky sometimes in the winter. the high was 69 with a low of 58 where im at i say 5-3 (over six this spring) and 2-9

pond fishing
hey big m. and all who have replied. whiole ther are some tactics the work the same as lakes there are many that dont.. in many large lakes there can be any type of structure and depth you can think of. road beds, stump fields, rocks, timber, pads, floating weeds. the list goes on and on. however in most of the smaller waters you will generally only find a few different types of structure. mostly pads and some weeds on the bottom and weeds around the bank. some times you might find a stump or two but only if the owner had one dropped in. the depth is the key. most farm ponds usually arent more than 6 to 8 ft deep and the golf courses are usually 4 to 6. the problem is catchin these fish in shallow water when the fish wants to be deeper and it isnt there. it will make you go crazy

How do I remove a hook a bass has swallowed?
i never consider a fish cought unless you have control of the fish. control=possesion..no control=no fish cought
