  1. bass pro reels are actually made by phleuger. i have two of them for about two years (johnnymorris and a prolite) now and they work as good as new. use some hot sauce. if you look around on ebay on the paintball section or do some searching on the web for a grease called SLICK from southernpaintball.com it is one of the best greases i have ever used for a reel
  2. bought a 300 yd spool of 14 lb crystal 8-) spooled it on 3 of my 13 reels went fishing with it :-? cought NO FISH respooled with some more firelin in the smoke color (30 more smacks) :-[ went fishing again cought fish ;D basically the crystal looks like "crane cable goin through the water"(qoute from someone else here but i dont remember who). it sucks!!! it is not translucent it is white blazing snow white. i think it amplifies the ambient light around it and glows somehow it is so white. do not waste your money unless you plan to use a flurocarbon leader of some sort. but even if you do you will have a white laser beam underwater pointing to your lure
  3. i really like the worm binders from bass pro. i have a big tackle bag and i put the worm binders inside of it along with a tray or two. it keeps every thing very organized. this way i can take out just the stuff i need without all the extra weight
  4. bass can get conditioned to the same lures. meaning that if they are seeing the same bait all the time they will learn that it isnt really food. that is why the new lure craze happens. a new lure comes out every few years and it catches fish everywhere because its something the fish havent ever seen before. think back and you should recall and already have baits that worked yesterday and dont today........ if you fish in a pond you can prevent this by fishing something different every time you go. if you fish in a big lake with lots of pressure then you just have to go with what works today because when tomorrow is today then you have what is called yesterdays news :-/
  5. any one ever seen or heard of a senko type worm bigger than the 7 in dinger made by yum? if so please let me know.
  6. junebug magnum lizard ;D
  7. now i kinda wish a had a camera with me that day............ oh well i guess i will have to go catch another one, or three
  8. has any one used these hooks? how do u like them. do they hold better than the average hook or are thes on par with anything else
  9. try dead sticking a senko or a sespending crank
  10. try using a cast net. sounds like it may be your only hope
  11. i use a 7 ft medium pro qualifier. the biggest thing with frog fishin is waiting untill you feel the weight of the fish before you set the hook. if you try to set it as soon as he gulps it under you may miss the fish. its kinda like buzzbait fishing.
  12. mike and cliff i am really glad to see the i have helped you. mike, the tool can be purchased from bass pro in the fly tying section or ordered off the net from many places ebay bass pro and many others for about 5 or six bucks. keep it on a lanyard around your neck so it is always handy. also how did you like the video. cliff the knot holds equally as well with mono as well as braid. i use fireline mostly and the knot has NEVER FAILED. the line may break near the knot but the knot will still be on the hook. the only thing bad about the clips is the the fish can pry the opne sometimes with ceatain lures bass pro also sell a tool for tying a cinch knot. however i have never used this tool but if there is one nearby the guy in the fly shop should be able to show you how it works. i will be posting some of the pics on my myspace account soon.
  13. my uncle ricky and i were on high rock lake in north carolina when a boat came and parked within casting distance uf us. we had already cought a couple nice ones when he showed up. then i heard those fomous words we have all come to know over the years. "HEY, WATCH THIS" loud enough for the guy to hear.he proceeded to tie on one of those dollar plugs you get form the big bin at the tackle shop. and his plan was to cast it right on the deck of the boat, except he missed ansd just hit the side of the boat instead. the really wild part is that he actually cought a fish and it happened to be the biggest one we cought all day. after he landed the fish he told him that we already cought all the fish in this hole and that we were goin to another hole and get thme to.. he did not look happy
  14. did you read this one yet http://capmel.com/solunar.htm
  15. ive had this happen. a guy came and cut about 20 or 30 feet in front of me. before he even got his rods out i had already fired up the moter and parked right beside him about 10 ft away in the direction i was already goin. he gave me a funny look and asked me what the hell i was doin. i simply stated that i was here first and that many people should consider some courtesy every now and then. i then proceeded to fish as normal. he got the idea and left
  16. here you go this is the definition from this website Moon Times - Four phases of the moon are usually what the fisherman is concerned with. Generally the "best times" in a month occur three days prior and three days after, and include the day of the new or full moon. First quarter and second quarter periods are considered as only "good times." click this link to go to doug hannons webstie this is a better explanation. although it is also an advertisement for his moon clock http://www.bassprofessor.com/elite/moonclock.php this is also another great explanation. this is also another very informative website http://capmel.com/solunar.htm
  17. i cought a 9 lb 5 oz bowfin(black fish some people call it) on 8 lb test fireline the other day. how does that rank on the lunker scale. i also learned that these fish put up one hell of a fight. the fight like gators. some of my buddies have said this was a pretty amazing feat with 8 lb test but i wanted so ask some other people with an outside opinion
  18. just remember that all baits do not cast the same. if you get you thumb trained on a practice plug over and over you WILL backlash it when you go throw a plastic lizard or similar lures. remember this as a rule of thumb. hard heavy baits cast further than soft lightweight ones.when you throw a lighter weight lure, the spool will speed up the same but the lure will slow down at a faster rate. the spool will require you to feather the spool more if you havent adjusted for it.wind resistance can be your enemy here. the more wind resistant a lure is the less you will backlash. also casting into the wind will require some additional thumbing of the spool if you dont adjust your reel for it
  19. switch here. i usually change the handle to the right side for my spinning gear. i have also seen some people hold the spinneng reel upside down. now isnt that wierd
  20. if there is a bass pro near go look the the johnny morris line. they use the xps weight thing at the end of the handle that makes a huge difference in the overall balance of the rod. i highly reccomend trying one out. go to a hardware store and get one of those rubber things that go on a chail leg and put some quarters in it then put it om your rod handle to get an idea
  21. no offence taken killer. i think alot of people have seen the thing but are scared of it because they dont know owit works. i too used the mighty polamar for a long time but some one let me borrow the tool and try it. i can tie it faster than the polamar now and its easier once you get the tool. at least it is for me anyway. it can be tied alot faster than in the video. it also works great on cranks since you dont have to drop trebles through a loop
  22. try dead sticking a senko worm or a sinking crankbait on a cork. twitch it every 10 or 15 min
  23. i agree with burly, what works for them might not be great for you. the baggest thing is just using your equipment the way it was intended. set them up ccording to the specs on the rod and reel. i have a bps pro lite reel mads for finesse and smaller lures and it does not work well with larger lines and lures. however if you really want a new rod and you have a gotta have it bait monkey attack bass pro has the pro qualifier rods on sale for 80 smacks( reg $119)
  24. i use the fast tie knot tyer and the gryp knot. i see alot of guys here use mostly the uni or the cinch. both of which are great knots. have any of you ever used the gryp knot it can be tied by hand or with the fast tie knot . i like it because there is no exposed line on the side of the knot. all the turns grip the line. here is a link to watch a video of the knot and a picture if you dont know what this knot is. according to various sources it cannot come untied. the line may break but it will not come intied. i just keep it on a lanyard around my neck and it is always ready to use http://burfish.com/catalog/knots.html http://www.tie-fast.com/Instructions.png scroll down a little to the tool and watch the video. the gryp knot is about 3 min into the video
  25. souds like its a good buy for the money 80 smacks on sale... i am glad to hear that the pro qualifier rods arre better than the reels. i have heard some bad things about the reels
