new to largemouth.
just like these guys said upsize give them something that looks exactly like what they are eating. the biggest bass i ever caught i wasnt even really bass fishing. i was catching bream in a lake and i reeled one in and there was a whopper of a bass chasing it trying to catch it. that fish just kept doing that every time i would catch a bream. i fianally caught a smaller one and put him on my big reel and threw out towards the middle to get him tired. sure enough next bream i caught here came mr. bass weel i horsed that bream to the boat turned around grabbed the other reel and skipped that little bream across the lake. got him backt to the boat tossed him in front of the bass and he disapeared then i just held on. the fish weighed 8lbs 7ounces. so just upsize and go natural my friend. New member! and have some questions!
just go to your local wal-mart or whatever in the sporting goods area and pick out a reel and rod that is not expensive but make sure that it doesnt look like it is going to break the first time u cast it. to get started in this sport u dont have to be rich or have to have the best equipment.

Instant Fisherman
ya ive seen that thing too. to me they are all gimicks i wouldnt buy one if u paid me to buy it. my little nephew wants one of those rocket rod things and i can uderstand that he is a kid but every time i take him fishing we dont fish with reels because he isnt quite ready i learned that the hard way by him putting a treble hook in the back of my head but ya i think they are just jokes.

33 classic and 733
georgiabassfisherman replied to georgiabassfisherman's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and Knotswhat is wrong with the drag on those reels i like all of my drags because i can hear them when it is stripping so i know its working and i cant hear it on my baitcaster.

What was your strangest catch?
i have done that caught one in my pond using minnows and it had a perch fish in its mouth about 2-3 inches long but they say that they regurgitate them when u hook them.

33 classic and 733
i may sound a little unproffesional here but most of the rods in my boat are 33 classics and 733 hawgs i do have some baitcasters but i am alot more acurate with the other reels is there a real problem with fishing with these reels instead of the baitcasters if so let me know please.

Beautiful day in sunny SE Florida
cosign there pendulum as i am a son also i love getting to go out on the boat with dad and do some quality fishing its just so much fun especially since he is the one that taught me most of the things i know about fishing and the outdoors.avid just remember to take us kids into fishing slowly if u see ur kid is getting ready to go u do the same thing otherwise it just gets boring to us. not to me though i love fishing but i wish my dad could get off of work more so he could go with me cuz now i just have my cousins to go with me. Horny Toads
well i catch lots of bass with the horny toads but i dont really catch the big ones with it the biggest i caught was a six pounder and it was really on accident. i had casted in my bossmans pond and hit a limb so it slung the bait down the side of the bank instead of the little pocket i wanted to go to on the other side. i started pulling it fast so i could cast cuz i had just saw one strike and i must have brought it over his back cuz i just saw this huge wave and i thought of killing it but i kept on going but a little slower and then wham that fat guy nailed it but i do have lots of luck with these things but i usually use the subsurface retrieve i may keep it up for a few seconds then i slowly let it fall and jerk it a little and repeat.

Frogs?
Good point Brad. Used as a "surface" lure, I'm one of the few anglers who's not entralled with the zoom horny toad. The horny toad does not float, so it enforces a faster retrieve than I prefer to use on the surface. In any case, I like your follow-up concept, and intend to give that a try. Roger well when i use the horny toad i only make it kick on the surface if i have thrown it past where i want it to go then i let it sink and flutter toward the bottom and then i twitch it a few times while it is in what i call the zone then i just reel it back to kinda slow

Frogs?
well right now all i am using down here in florida is the Zoom horny toad the bass just love those things but i used to use this frog that i had that was one of thos e hollow floating ones. i was in this lake that u could only get in there with a bass boat if the water was up but the water was down so i was in my john boat and i had to drag it and i threw that frog in some pads and about the time it hit the water it was like u pulled the plug right under those pads. a bass came up and looked like he swallowed the entire patch of pads all i know is that the frog dissapeared water splashed everywhere and my line snapped.
