Braid lb. test Largemouth
For spinning setups for bass, i typically use anywhere from 12-20 lb braid depending on the brand you pick. i lean toward to lighter side but for example 12lb asegai is only slightly thinner then 20lb smackdown ect. i typically run braid to leader, usually 8-10lb flouro *typically run 30lb asegai on baitcasters but that doesnt really gear toward your question haha

Dobyns fury

New Shimano Baitcasters for 2021?
they are still doing virtual icast this year so i would assume we should still see announcements for some of the new stuff. but i suppose it depends how there production schedules were aftected. theres a real chance that this sale was put into the works months before all the covid stuff kicked off so they may just be honoring the arrangment. but im really hoping we still get some new releases come july

New Shimano Baitcasters for 2021?
I was thinking the exact same thing, no way that a new one isnt around the corner with a 80$ off fathersday sale haha im currently going back and forth on whether i should pick one up, dont really "need" but man its quite the discount

Finesse Fishing Line
ive used the 5.2# version of this line. liked it quite a bit, soft but strong. caught a mess of trout on a tatula 1000. i will say i only had it on the reel for about 2-3 months of use before it go so coiled that i started having issues. its far to expensive to replace that often, but if you through it on a larger shallow spool i think youd have a great time.

Help- Cortland Braid
judging from the sizing of the cortland braid. 20lb would be a bit thick depending on what size spinning reel you plan to use. if your putting it on a 3000 size you may not have any trouble, but based on my experience with cortland from the 30lb if you are wanting to give it a try you might want to scale down a bit. i believe the have a 15lb as well that i have considered trying next time i go back to a 4carrier. unfortunately i cannot give you a comparison against SX1. i will say you should consider Sunline Asegai if you have not previously tried it. that is my preffered braid

Looking to pick up a Shimano baitcaster
Ive had/have a couple of the shimano line. had a SLX (it took a swim haha). currently have a SLX XT and a Curado DC. depending on your application the Curado DC is great. the SLX XT is imop a fair bit nicer then the standard SLX due to the improved brakes. i love the SLX/XT frame size in my palm vs the curado. but thats just me. the SLX DC is almost exactly the same size as the Curado DC but with a few differences that make it slightly cheaper. if your skilled with a baitcaster i dont think you will get 100$ difference if the DC feature is the only feature you care about. but for someone like me that isnt the best it is nice to not backlash as much or when i do they are usually fairly manageable to correct

Ned rig- straight braid?
I typically fish a 12lb braid (my choice is sunline xplasma asegai) to a 8lb leader and it tends to work out well. and can always scale or lower the leader if desired

Has anyone else stopped using the FG Knot?
i just about always use the FG, but i have never had the knot fail when tied properly. the only time they have failed it has been user error and i have cought it when tighting the knot during tying. its definately my prefered knot due to its size and strength, i wish it was faster to tie, but i can typically tie it once a day when fishing unless im changing baits a ton and eat up my leader material one thing ive noticed is that if your using a stiffer florocarbon it makes it harder to get a good FG when your using lighter braid. example being Seaguar Invizx vs Sunline FC leader. Sunline FC leader is much stiffer then the Invizx and i have stopped using sunlines designated "leader" material

100 dollar rod??
The new Phenix Maxim series is out and is pretty great for the money. i believe they run from 100-110 depending on the model. i have the older maxim but the new ones are even nicer if your looking to spend 120+ then i would also highely recommend a dobyns fury

Leader question
I've always used leftovers from other flouro spools I've had from mainline. Never messed around with the dedicated "leader" material as it is awfully pricey for what i feel is likely the same material. As far as diameter goes. I don't put to much stock in it, i primary base it off approx lb test that i want for whatever application I'm doing. For example I have a UL setup with 8lb braid and 6lb flouro. Or another I have 12lb braid to 10lb flouro Ideally my leader line is the week point. That way if I break on a long cast it's only a few feet instead of 30

Which reel should I get for my birthday?
If I could go back and spend the extra money to upgraded from my slx xt to a slx DC I would no doubt. I've used the DC on my curado and loved it. If you find it comfortable in hand I would go for it. That being said no complaints with the xt. Just not as dumby proof. Thay being said. If you are looking to throw light stuff the tatula SV may be the way to go. but anything standard or heavy you cant to wrong with the dc

Which reel do you prefer...regular or DC?
Just my opinion from using the curado DC vs the slx and slx xt. Granted they are at different price points. I love the dc reel system. It's not as magical as they market it but man is it user friendly. I myself am not exceptional with a baitcaster so the dc really makes my fishing experiences a bit better. That being said I use my slx xt on a regular basis and do just fine. But when it gets windy I love the DC, that's really where it shines in my opinion. The drawback to the DC is the size. Tho still comfortable the Curado and slx dc are both a bit less palpable then say the slx xt or a tatula 100

SLX XT vs Tatula 100.
Slx xt is 7.2. so it's actually head over then the tatula it seems
