  1. Is there any advantage to a short shank treble hook over a long shank treble?
  2. Sportsman's Outfitters has Daiwa Tatulas on sale
  3. I think of them as a year round lure. Love me some spinnerbaits ?
  4. In the past I've measured the stock split rings on a variety of crankbaits from different manufacturers with a ruler and the size 3 owner hyperwire is the sweet spot for maintaining stock hook positioning on most baits in the 3/8-5/8oz range. I haven't measured the line tie split rings so idk about that.
  5. That Gold Flash Minnow color looks the part. Copperfield is another color that guys down here swear by with the Gambler swimbaits. Decisions, decisions...
  6. Okay. So how do you guys connect the blades to the heads? Split rings?
  7. Yeah I've seen these colors but I can't figure out which one has more flash. As you probably know, Florida bass don't like dull shiners
  8. Alright, I'm finally gonna jump on the Keitech bandwagon. I'm looking for opinions on the best color to imitate golden shiners.
  9. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Queen_Tackle_Switch_Blades_3pk/descpage-QSB.html What can anybody tell me about these blades for making bladed jigs? Also, for those of you out there making bladed jigs, do you have any favorite blades? I'm new to tackle making.
  10. Alright fellas, thanks for the help. Now I just need to find a place to cast net bait.
  11. If there was a "perfect" size range for golden shiners or other forage to catch more bass in the 4lbs+ range in central Florida, what would it be? I'm catching plenty nice ones up to 4lbs but I still have yet to punch above that size class down here.
  12. I set the drags on my reels by hand, setting them so they slip only when I apply a large amount of force (in theory, this is the point where the line has stretched to it's maximum potential and will break without intervention). I've never had a problem with the drag not being able to respond because it's mechanical. It will instantaneously respond to any forces applied to it because it can't hesitate like a human or computer. Modern drag materials create a much smoother and consistent response so most modern reels don't require an anti-reverse switch (which most definitely is a entry point for salt, dirt, and grime). Imo, with modern reels, the concept back-reeling actually hinders your ability to fight a fish because you, as a person, have a delayed reaction to a sudden change from the fish and can make a mistake (despite how forgiving you are, Murphy's Law will hold you accountable). If the situation calls for it, I can simply loosen the drag as I see necessary. With changes and evolutions in technology, old standards are erased and new standards are created. As with other markets, low volume sales are the first to be sacked. As more and more companies eliminate anti-reverse switches, they will go the way of the manual transmission: outdated and a relic of old times (R.I.P.). This irks me to my core and is a reason I can't stand to watch many bass fishing videos in which spinning reels are used.
  13. Yeah, definitely an I opener for me. Now that my tenure in MS is over, I'm slowly switching over to junebug.
  14. Recently, I did some research on why the bluegills around here (central Fl) don't look the same as bluegills in east MS. I found out that Florida and some other southeastern states like Georgia and Alabama have another subspecies called the Coppernose. Most of the Coppernose I have caught or seen pictures of have purplish hues mixed with greens, blues, and/or blacks. Is that why junebug works so good down here?
  15. I haven't heard many good things about Lew's spinning reels. Aird-X or even Academy's All Star Classic series rods would be excellent choices. As far as reels can't go wrong Shimano, Daiwa, or Pflueger.
  16. Alrighty, welp that answers about every question I have. I'm gonna trial run the Spiderwire with my other set ups. If I feel like my casting distance is unsatisfactory, I'll try out some Maxcuatro. Thanks for the help.
  17. There's nothing "wrong" with it. Let me reformulate that last post because it is a jumbled mess. Check it now @J Francho
  18. Alrighty, I've been convinced to consider some Maxcuatro for my combos. Was looking at my 50lb Spiderwire this morning and the diameter is no bueno because I want more casting distance. That leads me to my last question: If you had to pick an all around size for baitcasters that can do everything (from small paddletails/light texas rigs on a M rod to light flipping/frogging on a MH), would you go 40 or 50? (edited)
  19. Another question about Maxcautro: does it dig into the spool bad?
  20. Okey dokey. Just wondering cause I've heard ppl say that can happen. I'm guessing they chipped their guides banging their rods around and blamed the braid?
  21. Being that this is a 4 carrier, will it be more apt to cut rod guides on cheaper rods due to it's roughness and thinner diameter?
  22. Thanks for the heads up. I don't think I'll ever have or be willing to fork out the dough for an MBR or GLX. The E6X 843C MBR does look pretty sweet. The inshore variant of the E6X also looks pretty nice.
  23. Okay, I'm going convinced on a MH/F rod. I'm still set on something in the 7' range. Need to make short, accurate casts and a 7'3 rod is kinda unwieldy for that purpose based on my experiences. My current 7'3 has been reserved for flipping and long casts. I'm thankful for the suggestions and I'll see if I come across any 7' models of the rods suggested.
  24. I've gotten used to fishing paddletails on braid to leader for saltwater. This will be a trial with treble hook lures and spinnerbaits but I know there are guys that do it so I want to try it.
  25. 50lb is what I have lying around and I'm not worried about the strength, just diameter. I mainly use it for frogging/flipping now, but I doubt 50lb will hurt anymore than 30lb. Don't need to cast a mile. I've been using braid for years now but only for frogging, flipping, and spinning. I currently don't have the funds to go out buying mono dedicated combos for bass fishing. I need something I can use back and forth between freshwater/saltwater without respooling every outing. 12-14lb mono isn't gonna cut it with a decent sized snook so if I gotta tie a leader, I'd rather use braid.
