What am I doing wrong? I lose jumping bass!
Is this happening with all your baits or just certain lures?

Best fish finder for beginners
x4 on the Lowrance. I got mine on clearance and couldn’t be happier. I really only bought it to see depth as well as any big pieces of cover on bottom, works great for that.

Most productive color combinations for Jigs?
Get 3 basic skirt colors. Green pumpkin, black and a baitfish pattern. Use your soft plastic trailers to add extra color if that's the key. Yes, I'm a hypocrite.

What's your favorite line of rods?
I own pricier rods but my favorite is the Mojo Bass. Great value and they have some great models

Bites on a swinghead are hard to detect
I went through the same thing last season. I singled out the swing head as my technique to learn for the season. I had tried them before with very little success. The first time dedicating a session to them, I got two bites which resulted in two hookups but zero landed fish. I lost both when they jumped. I attributed those lost fish to the same problem you’re describing. I had trouble distinguishing what was a bite and what was just cover I was banging into. In turn, I made a hesitant hookset and lost those fish. I realize that’s a poor excuse but I was never and am still not a “cross their eyes” kind of guy ? What I noticed with more time fishing them is that the bite usually ends up feeling two ways. Most of the time it is mushy as if you were dragging the bait through some slimy muck. It’s like an extra weight, moving along with the bait. Moving along rocks and hard cover, it feels like more of a grinding-y feeling. I noticed the same feeling when fishing neds by ticking them along hard bottoms. The second way is a loss of feedback from the bait. You’ll be ticking and bumping along and suddenly - nothing. I think this is the fish picking the bait up and swimming towards you, which would also result in a slack line, another way to detect that bite. I’ve also heard here on bassresource, that bite detection is a funny thing. With more experience, it becomes instinctual and you’ll be setting the hook before even realizing a bite is there. I don’t think I’m at that point yet, but I’ve begun to notice it in some of my fishing. It reminds me of my days playing hockey. After making a bad play, my coach would blast me and once I replied “I thought ..” and he just cut me off and said “that was your first mistake. You thought. Don’t think, just do”. I think the same applies to fishing but it takes some time for that second nature to develop. And before someone points it out, yes this completely contradicts everything I just told you but it’s something to consider. Sorry for the long post but I hope it helped. Best of luck and let us know how it goes!!!

Lures you want to try, but just haven’t.
Nothing crazy or glamorous but I really wanna try those Pro Crawz from Z-Man.

I'm living in Montreal. I fish everywhere around here...mostly the riviere des prairies and mille iles but also lac st francois. I imagine you fish magog a lot? I've never fished it but would love to someday. What about in Sherbrooke itself? Is the fishing good in the city? Maybe I will take a drive there this summer and try my luck for some river bass!

I need advice
Stick with the left hand if that’s what you’re comfortable with. I was in the same situation as you when I started with baitcasters. I tried the “traditional” RH retrieve and it just felt wrong to me. At 80$, I’d take a look at a black max combo.

Fantasy Fishing 2021 - Official Thread
I'm completely ignoring ownership % too. The tournaments "scaring" me the most are the classic and neely-henry. I'm really stumped on who to pick for those. The rest of the tournaments, I feel pretty confident in my teams. There's also some great anglers who I've completely left out like Cherry and Whitaker. Might edit a few things so we'll see.

Might switch Zaldain for Yelas. DTL will be interesting, I've already mocked up my picks for the remaining tournaments. Here's my Fork team.- Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Finally decided on the reel that will end up on my dedicated frogging/punching setup. My first decision was whether I wanted to get an 8 speed or 7 speed. For frogging and punching alone, the 8 speed is fine (imo) but I considered a 7 because if ever I wanted to switch things up and place the “frog” reel on another setup, the 7 would be more versatile. I chose the 8 because that’s what was available. No biggie. Next, I wasn’t sure how much I wanted to spend. I considered another Curado but figured the price wasn’t worth it especially since I probably won’t have this setup in my hands much. So, I decider on a Fuego. Heard lots of amazing things about it and curious to see how it compares to the SLX. It feels great in hand and I’m itching to test it out.- Bait Fishing Help
You don't need the bobber if I understood your rig correctly. The whole point is that your rig stays on bottom. For bait, use live nightcrawlers.- What is the best soft plastics for smallies.
I have a few favorites; a TRD, stick worms, swimbaits. Really, the only plastic I haven't had much success with are big ribbontail worms. Still, someone's probably going to reply to me saying that a ribbontail is their favorite ?. Smallies will go after anything, but like @Junk Fisherman said, the "best" may depend on where you're fishing as well as how you want to fish.- Fantasy Fishing 2021 - Official Thread
Going to be super interesting to see everyone’s strategy for this. But with only 5 tournaments left (unless the classic gets included in this?) it won’t be nearly as hard as if this began at the start of the season.- Sprayed Grass Plastics
Those still look awesome. I don’t pour my own plastics so I can’t help you there but I like sprayed grass which are more watermelon-ish than green pumpkin. Almost like a translucent watermelon with purple and green flake. I’d also add a little more purple flake but those are just my preferences.- Do You Ever Wet Wade?
I love to wet wade all summer long, even in bigger bodies of water. I do it all the time. I usually just wear "athletic" shorts and have a change of clothes in the car. Footwear, I still haven't figured out and it's starting to frustrate me. I know what I would like but I'm not sure I can get everything I want in a wet wading shoe, for the price I have in mind. For now, I have just been using old sneakers, but they got all soggy and nasty so I've been looking for something that drains. I started a similar thread so you may get some ideas there:- Fantasy Fishing 2021 - Official Thread
- Bassmaster Video Game
I remembered your post about designing a video game. I actually went back and read the thread again right after I posted this. I saw that the thread was closed so that’s a bummer. How far along did you get with it? Any chance you continue the work on it just for the sake of it? - Sneaking into private property
