  1. I am not really in the market for one but was just curious if anyone had hit the water with one yet? Just curious to hear any feedback you may have.
  2. Wouldn't a double uni be a bit big and create a noticeable bump on the spool?
  3. This winter I told myself I was going to start doing more stuff for myself versus having to run up to a local store and having them do it. I have 6 reels that I have put mono backing on and are ready for the top, main line. 4 will be FC and the other 2 braid. What knot do you recommend to connect the mono backing to the FC or braid?
  4. I am looking at possibly buying a new Shimano Stradic spinning reel. I'm probably going to choose the 2500 or 3000 size. Being such a small difference between the two it actually may come down to the handle knob. The 3000 size has the T knob and the 2500 size has the small paddle knob. I have not seen either locally to try out but I was curious if either one seems to be more popular with people?
  5. When you take it off do you somehow "store" it or save it to be reused? Or just trash it?
  6. If the Shimano SLX and the Curado DC are both 150 size reels I assume the spool capacity would be exactly the same on both, correct?
  7. Silly question but I normally use blue painters tape to tape the end of the line to my spool during the off-season. I'm just sick and tired of how poorly it sticks and how often it just peels or falls off. I don't want to use like duct tape or something that would leave residue on the line on the spool. What do you guys use?
  8. I have a friend just getting into bass fishing. Regarding rods he asked me the difference between the power of a rod versus it's action. I kind of feel I understand the difference but am having trouble putting it into words. Also if two rods had no writing on them telling you their specs how would you compare the power/action of them to each other?
  9. Just curious what presentations you guys would say it is essential to have a fast (or extra fast) action? I understand which a moderate is best for (treble hook baits and such) but which would you saw a moderate-fast is ideal? Do jig and frog fishing (not in slop but fairly open water frogging) use the same type of action or are they just very different from each other?
  10. How would I know I am retrieving it too fast or too slow?
  11. I have been observing pros on TV and other local anglers and I have noticed a good deal of difference between how much line guys allow to be between the tip of the rod and the lure. Some 2-3 inches some almost a foot. I understand it kind of matters what lure (and it's weight) that you are throwing but I was curious how close you reel up your lure compared to your rod tip before casting?
  12. Had a rookie question about the trick worm. One side of it is kind of flat. When T-Rigging it where should the flat side of it be compared to the hook? If you were to wacky rig it would you want the flat side facing up the sky or down?
  13. To answer your question, I have other rods and this would be a technique specific combo. I knew this would be tightly contested and it speaks to the decision I have to make here. Again, I am sure both would suffice but I want to make the best or right decision here if possible. So far the vote is 9 to 7 in favor of the 6.2:1 ratio. No one has answered it yet but how would I tell if the one I end up with was too fast or too slow? How does the line I plan to use and on a 200 spool size effect the IPT and which I should go with?
  14. I've been lurking here for a few weeks (man there is some great info and posters on here!) I'm making my first post on here and I really hope you guys can point me straight here. My uncle has offered be an AWESOME gift for graduating college of the Shimano Curado K reel I was looking at! Now the problem is figuring out which gear ratio I should go with for what I will be using it for. I am going to be putting this on a Dobyns Fury 705CB with 12 pound FC line. I am going to use this combo to throw .5 oz lipless crank baits, square bills and smaller diving cranks. I've read a lot on here about IPT and how that is affected by gear ratio and spool size. This reel has a 200 size spool and again I would be going with 12 pound FC on it. The two models I am considering is a 6.2:1 ration with a 26 IPT and a 7.4:1 ration with a 31 IPT. I just want to get this right here, I do not want to get one and 4 months later which I had gotten the other one and at that point it would be too late to exchange it. And as a poor college student still I couldn't afford to just go buy the one I should have initially. And I probably imagine both will do the job I just want to buy the "right" one initially. Also out of curiosity after say 4 or so months of using it how would I know if I am presenting these baits too fast or too slow?
