  1. I 100% agree with picking the right gear ratio for the job so you can keep the same cadence when retrieving. That is what started all this, I need a new reel for my lipless/square bill/small crank KVD MH tour rod you recommended to me. I am looking at the Curado K 6 (IPT of 26") or the 7 (IPT of 31") and I cannot decide which to go with. I kind of think the 6 is probably the most fitting but obviously there are times you want to burn a lipless or square bill and I am concerned the 6 would be too slow for that without ripping my arm off turning so fast. That is what started me wondering if I should go with the 7 and "slow down" my retrieve at times or would it be easier to get the 6 and "speed up" when needed. Another thing that probably should not weigh into this decision is I own the Curado K 6 for deep cranks and the Curado K 8 for jigs and frogs so mentally I am kind of feel I should get the 7 to have all the bases covered. But if the 6 is the right tool for this specific job it really should not matter what other reels I have. IDK what to do LOL
  2. I recently got a Lew Tournament MB and had a quick question about the brake system. This is a picture of the internal brakes on the spool. 2 on and 2 off in the picture. If I pushed one of the brakes from the inside position towards the outside of the spool have I turn that brake on or off? I guess I am asking if I want to try 1 on and 3 off which do I move what way?
  3. I was considering if I wanted get a 6 or 7 speed as a lipless/squarebill reel. Read a lot on here and it sounds like there is not much agreement and an argument can be made for both. Got me to thinking, would you say it is easier to speed up your retrieve or slow down your retrieve speed?
  4. This is the sort of thing I was looking for. 75 yards for BC and spinning as a rule of thumb?
  5. LOL roughly 5% of responders actually answered the question I ask. I know how to do backing and how much total line to put on compared to the spool size. ALL I was asking was for opinions as to how much yardage of main line to have on your spinning reel. An amount that will give you plenty of "play" if you had a snag or two, allow for changing lures and such.
  6. Yeah but if I have a 1/2 oz lure I'd certainly be throwing it on a baitcaster.
  7. LOL I don't think you guys are understanding my question. I have a system worked out where I can put the exact yardage of main line I want on and then the perfect amount of backing underneath to fill the spool fully. What I am asking is what is a nice amount of main line put on? A good yardage that will allow for maximum casting distance without getting too the backing and will also allow for having to cut the line if hung up and such and still have enough but not be wasteful with the more expensive main line? As I said 60 to 80 yards or something?
  8. Normally on my bait cast reels I put mono backing on and then 75-100 yards of main line on top. Trying out a new spinning reel and was curious how much main line I should put on it? I will up with mono backing underneath it 60 to 80 yards? I assume because typically make longer cast with my bait caster I do not need to put as much main line on a spinning reel?
  9. I'll bite, as I have long wondered about this technique. I can certainly see the advantages, assuming no boat traffic and somewhat of a consistent depth you'd be able to get it deeper and run it in the strike zone for a longer period of time. I assume you have to hold the rod in your hand versus a rod holder, correct? I would assume if it were not in your hand it would be difficult to detect a bite or know if you got hung up on something, right? Any other tips or things to consider?
  10. So I should not look at this as a bigger, beefed up with wider spool and line capacity Curado K?
  11. I am a big Shimano BC fan but for some reason I have never been a fan of the Tranx when I have held it. I'm looking for something to throw 5 XDs and 6 XDs on, but would like to at least have the ability to bump up to an 8 or bigger if I liked. Anyway, I was sort of considering a 6.2 Curado K but maybe I should consider this 300K?
  12. I'd like to know what gear ratio they'll be offered in.
  13. A buddy of mine said he heard something about a new Curado K 300 coming out? Has anyone heard anything about this?
  14. Ummm, it is not even on their website. I am pretty sure I saw them on their page like 2 days ago for $229.
  15. The 6 and the 7 have a 90MM. The 8 has a 95MM. I want the 95 to go on my 6 that I use for deep cranking. Can anyone offer a reason they do have different sizes per model? Just curious if there would be any adverse effects. I also have a 7, is there a reason I "should or shouldn't" change it to a 95 as well?
  16. I have a 6.2 Curado K with the 90 MM handle and my buddy has the 8.5 with the 95 MM handle and we want to swap the handles on the reels. I am not very "handy" and want to make sure I am not going to get half way in and mess things up. Is this an easy procedure? Also obviously Shimano designed them with these handle sizes, is there any possible negatives to doing this? I know you can buy larger aftermarket handles so I would doubt it so I figured I better ask first.
  17. Would you guys say the Vanford is clearly superior to the Ci4+? What about compared to the Stradic FL? I am in the market for a new Shimano spinning reel and trying to figure out which route to go.
  18. You got a link? I tried Sportsman's and Google and did not find anything.
  19. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Cal_Coast_Fishing_Rod_Mule_Rod_Carrying_System/descpage-CCFRM.html As the husband/father of a family (me, my wife and 2 boys) that likes to go bank fishing a problem I run into is once we get to our destination I have to gather up 4-6 rods and carry them to the water. Doing so they get all jumbled up risking damage and a very high probability of getting hooks tangled up with other rods and such. I wanted like a suitcase that I could somehow keep them separated in and carry them and I ran across this. Does anyone have experience with this or something similar they would recommend?
  20. Well crap, this may be a bridge too far to do. Specifically talking about the Curado K if I were to use one for deep cranking and wanted to upgrade to larger/different knobs when looking for options online how would I know what would or would not fit and work with this reel?
  21. I have never put an "after market" knob on a reel and was hoping to get a little info here. Really I am hoping someone could give me some correct info to save me some time and the hassle of having to put something back together I never should have taken apart in the first place LOL I am a big fan of the Winn oversized grips and was interested in putting some on two difference Shimano reels. I have a Curado K and a Ci4+ spinning reel I would like to change the knobs on in favor of the Winn oversized knob. I have no idea if the size of everything is "universal" or are there certain brands that can be swapped out between each other? Just hoping for some info and hopefully some personal experience here. Thanks!
  22. I was asking more regarding how to get the bait down to maximum depth ASAP
  23. He very briefly mentions it at about the 1:30 mark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nq9sitLNsT4
  24. I throw a 6XD on a big crank bait rod a lot around here. I have always heard that once it hits the water you want to start reeling very fast to get it down to it's maximum, desired depth then reel normally from there. Then today I say a KVD clip on YouTube talking about how he starts by reeling it slowly to get it to the maximum, desired depth then speed up from there. I am confused, it makes sense to me to started burning that reel once it hits the water to get it down ASAP but the master says differently so who am I to question him? Opinions?
  25. Bass Pro has a sale on some Owner Flashy swimmers now and I wanted to pick up some. I want to get the right size to go with my 3.8 Keitech paddle tail swim baits. Do you think the 3/0 or the 5/0 would be the better size to go with?
