  1. I am looking to get a casting rod that would be used for top water baits and jerk baits. Is this a possibility or are ideal rods for there presentations just too different? Be it a specific rod or even better what specs would be ideal? Power, length, action, etc? TIA
  2. Teaching my son to cast a bait caster I had him watch a couple of beginner YouTube videos about it. They went into changing the settings on the reel and well and they both did something I have never heard of. Both videos showed the commonly used method of adjusting the spool tension to the point the bait barely lowered with the help of gravity. BUT they both they both stressed the important of turning the brakes completely off with the external dial before doing so. Have you guys ever heard of this? If so why is this important?
  3. I was wondering how things looked for you down there. Prayers sent to you and yours Catt and be careful!
  4. I am in the market for a Curado DC reel. Lack of availability has lead me to look on eBay. A lot of the different ads on there say this reel is a 2018 or 2019 model or something like that. First off, how do you tell from looking at the reel what the production year is? Secondly is there ANY difference in the model made it 2018 vs 2019 or something?
  5. I was literally eye balling this exact same combo. Happy to hear the positive review!
  6. All out, only can backorder. I had looked there too. All they have is left handed 6.2:1
  7. I am in the market for a Curado DC reel and I've looked at all my local stores (large ones like BP, Cabelas, Academy and Scheels and even some smaller local ones) and I obviously realize how the pandemic has left us with just barren rows where lures used to be but MAN I was just shocked how unavailable these are! Not a single one in like 10 stores locally to the point you cannot even order them to ship to store. Major online fishing websites are out too. eBay seems to be about the only place and there is not much there. Has anyone heard any word or rumors as to when they will be more readily available?
  8. Is it the same simple process and just as easy if we were talking about a Curado DC or are there other factors to take into account?
  9. Can you explain to me what that means and how it affects potential casting distance? Wouldn't a dual braking system that offers more adjustment possibilities be "better"?
  10. Man, I am all for the slow reels for this technique but 21" just seems like it is inching along LOL
  11. I am a big fan of Lews bait cast reels when it comes to sheer distance you can cast them. I want to get a Lews for my new deep crank set up and bombing casts super far is a big deal to me. I am trying to decide between the BB1 and the Tournament MB. Due to design and specifically the braking system of each which should you theoretically be able to cast further? Anyone with personal experience with these two reels?
  12. I have always wondered the differences (and casting distance) difference between it at something like the Tournament MB. The BB1 gets all the love but it appears to me the only difference between the two is the MB also has external brake adjustments.
  13. Just curious here, if you had to enter an Olympic event style casting distance contest with a bait cast reel (say with a large crank bait) be it from personal experience or reputation which reel would you choose? Lews BB1? Shimano Core? Abu Winch? Daiwa Zillion? Something else? And yes, I know the skill of the angler and what type of rod is extremely important to a bomber cast. So the question assumes all things are equal. Just asking about the reel itself and what you personally would choose.
  14. I have a 6.2 Curado K that I plan on using as my deep crank reel. I am toying with the idea of putting a bigger handle on it but one that is reasonably priced and not a nightmare to get on. Anyone have some suggestions?
  15. On the Fuego CT bc reel can you pop off the side plate and pull the spool out the side or not?
  16. I've been considering one of these for a while but I have read some just dreadful reviews of it. Anyone have one and could share an opinion?
  17. If we have established that thinner line would be cast further what TYPE of line could be cast further? Assuming rod/reel/line diameter was the same could you cast mono, FC or braid further?
  18. I was wondering about this statement. Were you just saying you did not trust yourself to tie a quality knot with FC with it being dark at night?
  19. That's why I said if all other factors are the exact same. Just a question based upon line diameter vs casting distance.
  20. That's interesting. Why 12 for the deeper stuff and 10 for more shallow? I mean, I realize that there is more to picking a line diameter/strength than just the ability to get down deeper but I'd like to know your thought process.
  21. I understand that. I was just using that unit of measurement as a general reference point.
  22. I hear you on the mono for deep cranking. I have not used mono since I was a kid with a bobber. Same diameter fc vs mono which casts further? Also, I know that one of the benefits of cranking treble hook baits with mono is the stretch/forgiveness. If I am fishing with a composite crank rod that is built to offer forgiveness AND were to use mono would that be too MUCH forgiveness and create a problem the other way?
  23. I assume that if all things were equal (rod and reel) that say a 10 pound line can be cast further than a 15 pound line?
  24. I have a 7'10" composite crank rod that I will primarily be throwing 5XD's, 6XD's and such with. I am a huge fan of Sunline FC Sniper so I'm sure I will go with that. Can't decide between 10 and 12 pound. 10 would go a bit deeper and 12 would be a bit stronger. The lake I fish most of the time have some pretty viscous wipers in it that can freight train a crank and I have seem some double digits be pulled out of there. I am kind of leaning towards the 10 pound just because the desire to get it lower in the water column. What do you like here?
