  1. Last summer I purchased a ST. Croix Legend Tournament Bass 7'4" MH fast casting rod to pair with my Shimano Chronarch MGL with intentions to make it my heavy/big jig, t-rig, and c-rig rod. Due to some odd circumstances, I wasn't able to get on the water and use it until recently. This combo is sweet (casts FAR, sensitive, smooth, relatively light), BUT it is pretty tip heavy and unbalanced, which is a huge bummer since this is my first expensive (to me) combo. Before I bought the LTB, I read some reviews that pointed towards it being tip heavy, but not enough to deter me from buying one. What are your thoughts on this? Has any one heard of this problem regarding the LTB rod?
  2. I’d go with the St. Croix Mojo Bass 6’8” m/xf. The mojo bass comes in many different models though, including med-lights of several different lengths,
  3. Thanks for the replies! I wasn’t really interested in it at first glance, but after hearing it had thinner/smaller grips it caught my attention. My hands are pretty small, but I’ve been using “regular” rods for ever and it hasn’t ever bothered me. Anyways, I’ll probably buy a non-pink avid if I’m looking for another rod.
  4. Have any of you guys used, or know someone whose used it? It is a woman’s specific rod by St. Croix, and looks pretty cool tbh! There are literally no reviews on it anywhere, so if you have any info on this pink rod, please tell!
  5. I prefer my rods 6'6" and up. My longest bass rod is 7'4". I personally probably wouldn't go above 7'4" though, just because I mostly fish from shore with lots of trees or a kayak. It really just depends on personal preference/feel in the end.
  6. Seriously guys, thank you for all your input! I didn't realize that line type was such a debated topic - but now I know (and happy that I know). I decided to try out some 20 pound braid, I just ordered it a few days ago. I'll update this thread in a while to tell you what I think of it. I'm really excited to get out and use this set up, as I've been looking for something lighter for a while now! Someday if I have the money, a legend x is definitely on the radar
  7. Just wondering what you guys consider to be the best/strongest knot to tie a fluorocarbon leader to braid? Last season I was completely new to braid with fluoro leaders, and spent most of the summer trying to learn which knot was best to connect them. I totally forget which knot I used and where I learned it, but I’ll just say that I lost many fish due to it. I ended up just running straight braid, since the water I fish is pretty dirty anyway and I didn’t see much use for a leader. I would like to give the fluoro leader another shot though, so any advice for which connection knots are best will be greatly appreciated!
  8. 7'4" MH/F casting rod paired with 8.1:1 reel - t-rigs, bigger jigs, etc. 7'2" MH/F casting rod with 7.2:1 reel - all around rod, seriously it is so versatile (gets most use of all of them!) I use mostly for jigs/t-rigs though. 6'8" M/M casting rod paired with 6.2:1 reel - crankbait rod (basically my only one-purpose specific rod) 6' 8" M/XF casting rod paired with 7.2:1 reel - haven't used this one yet, but plan on using it for small jigs, t-rigs, and basically smallmouth-sized bottom contact baits. Maybe jerk baits too. 7' M/F spinning rod with size 3000 reel - worm rod (mostly wacky rigged senkos) pretty versatile though. 7' M/F spinning rod, size 2500 reel (?) - finesse rod, even though it has the same power as the previous spinning rod I listed, it fishes more like a ML. Ned-rigs, drop shots, etc. If you can't tell, I really enjoy fishing bottom contact baits lol
  9. I would chose a 7.3:1 gear ratio reel... its not too fast or slow, its kind of the sweet spot IMO. The 6.3:1 is slower, and meant for baits that are meant to be moved/work by the reel (like crank baits, etc.).
  10. Thanks for all the input! What's your reasoning for never going below 50# on bait casters (not interrogating, just genuinely curious!) Is it just so it doesn't dig in, or am I missing out on something bigger?
  11. I recently bought a St. Croix Mojo Bass 6'8" MXF paired with a Shimano Curado 70 that I intend to use for as solely a "light" tackle rod (by this, I mean just smallmouth sized T-rigs, jigs, and stuff you would through in a skinny water type situation for mostly smaller fish). I'm debating on whether to get 30 lb braid or 20 lb braid for this set up. I usually go for 30 lb and up, but I was just wondering if it would be ok to go with light braid since I'll be using it for lighter applications?
  12. Thank you for all the input, I really appreciate it! Ill be ordering that rod soon!
  13. Also... would a med/fast work better for the techniques I listed above? Or is the extra-fast good?
  14. Shimano Chronarch MGL paired with a St. Croix Legend Tournament. Love this setup!
  15. I'm planning on getting a 6'8" medium power extra-fast action rod (St. Croix Mojo Bass) to be paired with a Shimano Curado 70. I will be using it for small/finesse type jigs and little Texas-rigs (smallmouth sized). Is this rod okay for that? Most people use a MH rod for jig type situations, but I already have several MH's and would like to get something for the small jigs and T-rigs I throw. Thanks!
