  1. I've a Shimano Xpride 6'10" ML which I really like, and I'd like another, but a bit sturdier for slightly bigger baits. Those two referenced rods appear to be similar in specs (3/16 to 1/2 vs 1/8 to 1/2). If so, with a difference of three inches, how much of additional casting distance will 7'3" rod render, and what would you suggest between those two?
  2. Who's selling it @$1,000?
  3. Well, and far from a soda can! LOL! That's the bottom line, isn't it? I'm leaning THAT way myself since I'm - again - far from being an expert. Much obliged!
  4. So, if I understand you correctly, difference in $$ is just an outer shell? Hmm...
  5. Now, that makes sense at last! Thank you for your input!
  6. At that price point, I thought going with a used Stella was the better option w/o knowing there were so many different models/variations over the years. If I'm not mistaken, even Stradic is being supplanted by another model and I can't recall that name/model at the moment. So many choices which is both good and bad for someone like me for obvious reason.
  7. https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Shimano-20-Exsence-BB-3000MHG-Spinning-Reel-2020-Model/143529272212?epid=20037637681&hash=item216b02e394:g:Q6wAAOSw05leQWqW https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-SHIMNOREEL.html?from=basres I tried to do some due diligence to get myself educated, but I'm now more confused than ever. How many different variations are there anyway? Those two reels look similar if not identical, and both are 2020 model as far as I can tell. Why is there a $$ difference then? Calling Shimano experts!
  8. I just want to fish - far from a collector which I've never even heard of. LOL
  9. What is an FJ? I think it's called 2500s and I'm clueless as what they stand for.
  10. Hi Mike (if you're ), does high end reel mean "high maintenance"?
  11. If you are in the market for a killer Shimano spinning reel, would you buy a Stradic 2500 for $220.00 or buy a used (clean) Stella 2500 for $300.00? I've never owned or have any experience with Stella so I'm sitting on a fence about this. So, what would be the best bang for the buck?
  12. I'm having a same issue right now, and I'm using a blood knot too. Knot keeps getting in the way; hitting the last guide and ruins my cast. I don't know how other guys are doing it w/o having any issue.
  13. Shin knot! One more knot that I need to learn. LOL! Is it as slim/small as a blood knot, and go through the guides easily?
  14. I'm looking at a new Metanium reel which basically offers two models w/diff gear ratio; 7.1:1 and 8.1:1. All my reels are old - like me - so I want to try something new and "different". I think my old Calcutta 100 reel has something like 5.8:1 ratio which, by the way, has served me well over the years. Anyway, coming from a layman, I'd think 7.1:1 is plenty for any bassfishing applications so where would you need 8.1:1 gear ratio for? Just to make one x-tra cast before you call it a day?
  15. This is the only brass plated twisted nails @HomeDepot, and it weighs practically nothing - 1/40 oz or something like that. Is this what you use? I considered using two nails for each worm, but there isn't enough space on the worm to screw them in. Oh, well, back to the drawing board.
  16. That's great! Any idea how much those nails weigh? How long are they?
  17. How long is the leader, and what kind of nail weight do you use?
  18. That was one of my concerns as well
  19. Makes sense and thank you for your input. Now, I don't know how to do a FG knot (I'm sure I can Google it but), will a blood knot do the trick as well?
  20. I've rarely used a leader, but I want to give it a go with my new baitcaster. With mono backing, followed by braided line, I want to try either mono or fluro leader for some finesse fishing, and crankbait fishing. What should be the "acceptable length" for a leader? On Youtube videos, some people appear to have over 15-20 ft of leaders on their reels, and I wonder if that's too much, and possibly defeats the purpose of using braided line. I don't think I want the knot catching a rod guide either or does it matter? What do you experts suggest?
  21. I wondered about that actually, and your reasoning makes a lot of sense.
  22. Ok, Japan over China then. Unfortunately, BP is out of those reels. I contacted TW to see if they would match the price on BP's website. They sent me an email saying that since BP is out of stock, TW wouldn't be able to match the $$ even though they claimed that they'd match their competitor's prices. I told them that they were falsely advertising since I don't see why BP being out of stock is of any conflict to their policy, and my email got ignored. LOL
