Tying a Feather & Flash Football Jig
Nice. I've got to tie up a couple dozen jig for myself and 3 friends who are hoping to make a trip to Northern Ontario for a week starting August 29th. That looks like a good one to add. I should have all the materials, if not exactly in those colors, but close. Have you ever tried twisting the chenille and the flash material together and then wrapping it. I do that on some of my subsurface bass bugs and it produces similar effect.

Figuring out a new body of water
I'm looking at the picture and there looks to be a dam or a road embankment at the far end. If that's what it is, that's where the deeper water is. You also may want to try and find that road if there's one there and access it. Also there looks to be a spit of land behind the first row of dead trees. Check it out if you can. The timber would be a good spot to try. It's a good sign there's sunfish in it, but it looks and a lot like beaver ponds I've seen in Vermont. I figure you're about two weeks behind the lakes that my buddies and I fish in NE PA. It's probably pre-spawn for bass, if there are any in there, and the same with the sunfish. Another thought if it is a sand bottom you might be able to wade out and work the edges of the weeds. Good luck.

Since when has this region been so windy?
Windy days and nasty thunderstorms seem to be more frequent these days. I'm a fly fisherman and I hate windy days. Since you're bank fishing, if you're on a lake or pond you should be able to find a spot that has some sort of wind break, trees, bushes, buildings, etc. What are you throwing? If I were using a spinning rod or bait casting rod I would prefer to have the wind at my back and try a side arm cast rather than an overhead cast.

Best recommended size of Live Target Hollow Body Frog?
What colors would you recommend?

Show Off Your Work!
That would work well with my fly rod. Nice tie

Fly tying....getting back into it.
Thank God for sunfish. They've saved many a day for me. I never give up on a stretch of a creek or river after the first time. Second time no fish. Time to move on. What did you catch it on?

Delaware river license for non resident seniors age 83.
They still do. You can fish from the shore on the PA side of the Delaware with a NJ license and I can fish from the shore the NJ side with my PA license. You just have to follow the limits and seasons for the state you're fishing in.

Fly tying....getting back into it.
Nice ties, flyfisher. I expect to see some pictures of smallies you fooled. That was an interesting video. A little bit of everything in the fly. I like the machine that shows how the fly moves, pity they're so d**n expensive. I saw one in action once at a local Orvis store where my salt water club was doing a tying demonstration. Good luck tomorrow.

Fly tying....getting back into it.
Time to keep the thread going Here's a few all purpose poppers that I "tied" up over the winter. By general purpose I mean I'll use them in fresh water or salt water. I used the pre-formed soft foam popper bodies. Tied on Daihichi 2461 hooks, size 1/0.

Where is the SEPA fishing forum? Not much of a hockey watcher. Got my fill of it when I was in college in Minnesota. I follow the Flyers, but lean more toward the Eagles, Sixers and Phillies

Multi-species
On my local creek, most diverse day smallmouth, largemouth, 4 species of sunfish, bluegill, pumpkinseed, redbreast and green, rock bass and a stocked trout. I like the golden shiner. I've caught a few of them on my fly rod. They were 8-10 inches long. They would great bait for muskie or pike or really big bass.

Fly tying....getting back into it.
Sounds like a plan. I stay away from any material that has to be trimmed to shape, so no deer hair or EP fibers. I do a lot with foam but do some bait fish pattern and streamers. I'm working on some weedless frog patterns right now. The lake my friends and I fish in the Poconos gets pretty weedy in the summer and I'd like to drag some flies across them to see what's lurking underneath. I'm going to work on a couple tomorrow and I'll take a couple of pictures.

SMB or Warmouth?
I don't think we have warmmouth up here. Here's a couple fish from the local creek, a rock bass and a smallmouth. I don't think we have warmmouth up here. Here's a couple fish from the local creek, a rock bass and a smallmouth.

Anyone else not fish for bass very often?
I'm a fly fisherman, but I spend very little time fishing for trout. SE PA is certainly not a trout fishing mecca but does have plenty of warm water and salt water opportunities within an easy drive . Depends where I'm fishing sometimes I'll specifically target smallmouth or largemouth, but I just enjoy fishing and catching and wherever there are pan fish there are bass.

Fly tying....getting back into it.
Thanks for the directions, flyfisher. I like the crayfish patterns. I hadn't tied any Zonkers since one of my first tying classes I took. Decided to add them to my fly box last year, after watching one of the guys in my salt water club tie them at our table at the Fly Tying Symposium in NJ. I've got a whole bunch of zonker strips to use up and I can only tie so many zonkers. Since this seems to be the only post related to fly fishing would you mind if I post some of my flies here as I tie them. You and I have different tying styles and I prefer top water for bass.

I'll check out your post flyfisher. I live about 5 minutes from the Schuylkill River, but it's conducive to fly fishing. Mainly, I fish a local creek, the Wissahickon, it has both smallmouth and largemouth in it. Average size for both is between 10 and 12 inches though are some larger ones in it. Lakes in the area and up in the Poconos. Some of the other creeks in the area. Four of us , try and make a trip up to Northern Ontario, this year we're scheduled to go up the end of August, first part of September, maybe.

The things we do
I'm a bit too old to be diving into cold water for a fish, but that one is worth the dive.

Philadelphia to be exact. First confession, I'm a fly fisherman. I throw flies at bass. I've been looking for a site for general information on bass fishing and tactics. You don't see a lot of that type of information on fly fishing forums. Figure I can pass on what I learn here to the three guys I fish with. They don't fly fish but could use some help with bass.
