Saltwater reel recommendations
I have the exact same BG reels also and have been happy with them. I want to try a BG MQ next.

Thank you both for the input. Very much appreciated. Look forward to trying out a St. Croix rod as I've heard good things about them. Rick

St Croix Avid Spinning Rods
I would like to try a higher end (for me) 2 piece spinning rod and am looking at a St Croix Avid. Specifically, I'm looking at the 7.0' MF 2 piece spinning rod. I would pair it with a Shimano Stradic 2500. I would use this rod mostly for light Texas rigs, flukes, and soft plastics. Is this a good rod for my listed uses. Thanks, Rick

Palm Coast (Hammock Dunes) Bank Fishing Recommendations
No worries, I was just concerned I spent $50 for a year long license for nothing. IMHO, it is well worth it. Inshore and Surf is a blast. Rick

Palm Coast (Hammock Dunes) Bank Fishing Recommendations
Hi, I just saw this. The ponds were terrible for freshwater and Bass. I think they were pretty salty and all I ever saw was Gar. I ended up fishing saltwater. I did buy a license. I never found any close by freshwater (doesn't mm want it doesn't exist). Instead, I fished Matanzas inlet, Rattlesnake Island, and Flagler pier. I had a blast and highly recommend it. I only had one M spinning rod with a 2500 series reel but it worked fine. I used either live bait or Berkeley Gulp. Let me know if you have any questions. Rick How is a FL saltwater license free? I bought one to fish the inlet. I know you didn't need one at the piers but thought did anywhere else

Palm Coast (Hammock Dunes) Bank Fishing Recommendations
Bumping this back to the top. I'm headed back to Palm Coast and bringing a spinning rod. Looking for any suggestions on areas to try while visiting the in-laws. Thanks, Rick

Senko 5" Rigging Preference ?
I'm lazy, so I usually T-Rig them. The reason is because I can switch between a Senko, Brush Hog, or even a Fluke. Rick

Houston Ponds?
I know, good find on the website. I don't have a boat, so am in search of new places to fish. I'm in the Cypress area.

This is awesome. I wish there was something like this for Northwest Houston. Rick

Pro Influence
YouTubers influence and move far more merchandise these days than most pros. They have much larger audiences and have far more marketing reach than 95% of the pros out there.

Took reel apart for maintenance, now drag isn't working
UPDATE: After waiting on Shimano parts, I replaced one of the drag spring washers and I think that fixed it. My theory is the originals ones while assembled correctly were "flatter" than ideally they should be. The new washer had more curvature and that did the trick. Thanks to all the members here for the feedback and input. This forum is great for helping each other out. Rick

Took reel apart for maintenance, now drag isn't working
Well, I dug myself a deeper hole and proceeded to remove the roller clutch bearing because I'm an idiot. I didn't realize there were so many small little lead/slate looking rollers, so now I'm waiting on a new one from Shimano. Didn't expect it to cost $17, but live and learn. I had remove everything again and was making sure there was nothing but residue grease on the washers before I decided to make the reel unusable.

Took reel apart for maintenance, now drag isn't working
Sometimes it's just not meant to be. I took out the roller clutch bearing and had no idea it was composed of a bunch of tiny pencil lead type things. They went all over and now won't stay in place. Guess I'll be placing an order with Shimano.

Took reel apart for maintenance, now drag isn't working
I think I have it assembled correctly, but either have bad parts or still too much grease. I'm not getting enough clamping torque on the spool. How far on the shaft should the Star drag nut be? I recognize that is what I'm turning with the Star drag to increase pressure. Thanks, for all the replies, much appreciated. Rick

Took reel apart for maintenance, now drag isn't working
I did wipe off excess grease on drag washers and also gear face parts. Should I try to make the washers practically dry? I did leave grease on the gear teeth.

Took reel apart for maintenance, now drag isn't working
Well, I took it apart and still no luck. Is it possible for the drag bearing washers to get flattened so the aren't curved enough? I don't think it is the AR bearing. It is definitely my drag, I'm not getting enough pressure on it basically. That would lead me to believe it is the spring, shaft collar, drag bearing spring washers, or drag washers them selves. Also, I assume there is no drag difference between reel gear ratios (6.2 vs 7.4). Thanks, Rick

Took reel apart for maintenance, now drag isn't working
I will work on this tomorrow. Today's task was to bleed the brakes on 2 of my vehicles. I think it will be AR or grease on drag washers or a combo of both.

Took reel apart for maintenance, now drag isn't working
Thanks all, I haven't broken down yet, but lean towards AR bearing. When I tighten down, I do get some resistance, it's just greatly diminished when I compare to another Curado DC I have.

Took reel apart for maintenance, now drag isn't working
My backup plan is that it goes to DVT if I can't sort it out. I do really suspect the AR bearing since I greased up the collar good.

Took reel apart for maintenance, now drag isn't working
Thank you for the response. I think you are correct, with the AR bearing. I'm going to take apart and try again.

Took reel apart for maintenance, now drag isn't working
Thanks, I thought I Puth them back on correctly, but will take it down again and double check. I have backing, so I can rule out line slip.

Took reel apart for maintenance, now drag isn't working
Thanks all, appreciate the replies. I got the reel back together with no parts left over, but did something wrong because my drag isn't holding like it should. I suspect I either over greased the drag washers or messed up by greasing the metal collar for the anti- reverse.

Took reel apart for maintenance, now drag isn't working
I took apart my Curado DC for the first deep cleaning and have a question on reel grease. Can I use Shimano drag grease as a multipurpose grease for gears and other parts that get a light greasing? My only other options available this moment would be Lucas general purpose automotive chassis grease or Hot Sauce reel grease. UPDATE:. Reel is back together but now have a drag issue. I think I my have over greased the drag washers. Thanks, Rick
