  1. Yes, they do. I have 1 and its been a great budget reel.
  2. Appreciate all the responses, now I have my eye on a Stradic. Now, what ML or M rod...........?
  3. Now after watching this and a couple of other videos, it has me wondering if I should just pony up and buy a Stradic FL. Is the Stradic FL a much better reel?
  4. So the Nasci would be better compared to the Fuego?
  5. I like you analogy as a car guy. So, does Stradic = 4Runner?
  6. I've been eyeing a new spinning reel and ML rod for weightless and light weight plastics. I'm budgeting about $100 -$150 for a reel and looking at the BG and the new for '21 Nasci. Would be interested in opinions on these 2. I currently have a Nasci that I've been happy with, but I also hear a lot of good feedback on the BG. Thanks, Rick
  7. Congrats on catching some fish, your off to a good start. There is nothing wrong with buying tackle from Wal-Mart, especially soft plastics like worms, grubs, flukes.
  8. Well, I'm convinced most of the ponds immediately around here don't have many bass. I will have to fish for other species or go further inland.
  9. Thanks Boston, really appreciate the input. Your feedback would explain what I've been experiencing. I'm about 2 blocks or from beach, so I wondered if the water was brackish. I do have some black flukes and can pick up some other baits. I will give those a try. Rick
  10. I'm visiting my in-laws who live in Palm Coast in the Hammock Dunes subdivision. There are tons of ponds in the immediate vicinity, but I haven't seen too many signs of bass and my outings so far have been pretty disappointing. Does anyone have any recommendations on areas to check out for bank fishing? I brought a spinning rod and have soft plastics, wire baits, and a few crank baits. Thanks, Rick
  11. Thanks RW. I read your extensive thread also. All, Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. It is much appreciated. I have a good path forward now to spend money. ? I will probably pick up a Curado DC in 7.3 ratio and move the 6.X ratio Curado to the crank rod. Rick
  12. I got back into bass fishing last year and have been building up my rod and reel arsenal. I mostly bank fish with occasional boat trips. I throw Texas Rigs, Senkos, small spinner baits, crank baits, chatterbait, and flukes. I currently have the following setups: 6'6" MF Daiwa Aird X/ Revos spinning reel 6'6" MF Ugly Stick Elite/ Shimano NASCI 2500 spinning reel 7.0 MHF Dobyns Fury 703 / Curado DC 6.2 ratio baitcaster 6'6" HF Dobyns Fury 664 / Curado DC 7.3 ratio baitcaster I'm thinking I should get a Dobyns Fury 705 crank bait rod next. I would pair with a Curado DC. I also think I should retire the Ugly still for a better spinning rod. Any tips much appreciated, including changing up my current setups. Thanks, Rick
  13. Same here, my 2 go to colors. Watermelon/black/red flake can be subbed with green pumpkin.
  14. Thanks, appreciate the responses. I bought some as a leader material but will probably return and either stick with mono or add true Fluorocarbon.
  15. I recently bought some Kastking Fluorocote line to use as a leader material. I think I want to stick with mono for my leaders. Is Fluorocote almost the same as mono line? Thanks, Rick
  16. Thanks, I'm not crazy then. It has disappeared by the time I went back to edit. Rick
  17. I was looking for an edit button also. Just to be clear, is a user unable to edit any posts?
  18. Thanks all for the suggestions. I appreciate all the tips. I going to sharpening the hooks and I will continue to have the rod pointed down. I am starting to really think some of the issue is the hook size in these baits. I get the feeling I'm hooking the bass, but it's not a good hookset or the hook has only penetrated a small amount of soft tissue, so the fish is able to get off the hook after I start reeling in. I also agree, there are probably better swimbait/hook combos. I'm going to start researching a different combo to use. The forage in my pond is shad, so the bass do really strike these lures. Rick
  19. The last 2 days I've had 6 fish throw the hook on me using Berkley Powerbait Pogy 3 in. swimbaits with a top hook setup. I'm trying to determine if I'm doing something wrong or pick up any techniques to improve my odds of landing them. It's possible maybe the hooks that come with the 3 in shad are too small for the bass. I have managed to land 4 over the 2 days with the biggest being 3.25 lbs. My hooksets don't look like I see on TV with a huge power hookset, rather I feel the tension and naturally pull back to set the hook. I'm reeling in the fish some, before it then gets free. It is not snapping my line usually. I'm bank fishing on ponds and my gear is as follows: Dobyns Fury 703 Rod Shimano Curado DC reel 30 lb. braid with a mono leader Lure: Berkley Powerbait Pogy Swimming Shad Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Rick
  20. I'm thinking about a Daiwa Revros LT for reel and then see about a rod. I agree about checking all the merchants in this price range.
  21. All, Trying to take advantage of black friday deals. I have a 9 year old daughter that wants her first spinning rod. Any recommendations for a good first spinning rod/reel that threads the needle between decent enough gear but not too expensive in case it is damaged, etc. I'm looking for a medium fast action that could be used for plastics and small swim baits. Thanks, Rick I'm throwing out a range of $100 or so, unless there is a compelling reason to go above.
  22. Thanks yes, there are good discounts on Dobyns rods.
  23. Thanks, I think the 704C would be a good compliment and probably also replacing my Ugly Stik spinning rod.
  24. This rod would be for heavier jigs, swim baits, etc. I mostly bank fish ponds and lakes in Texas. I'm a newer angler looking to add another rod to the 2 I have currently. I currently have a Shimano Nasci 2500 on an Ugly Stik Medium spinning rod for plastics, etc. I also have a Curado DC paired to a Dobyns Fury 703C for Texas rigs, spinners and light crank baits. I am looking for a Medium Heavy baitcaster to build out my rod/reel inventory and was considering a 704C or Shimano SLX medium/heavy. Appreciate any input as I look to take advantage of Black Friday sales. Also, if I can pick up a discounted Curado DC, I may pick that up to pair with it.
  25. What is better, a Dobyns Fury or Shimano SLX? I'm looking for a medium heavy general purpose baitcaster. If I pick the Shimano, I could also add an SLX XT reel and get the combo for $160.
