Spinning tackle in Bass fishing
Welcome to the forums Oresti! I really don't have an answer to your question, but I think it is more personal preference and I think experience plays a role also. I am a spinning tackle guy, mostly because it is what I have always used and am very comfortable with it. At some point I think I will make the move to bait casting gear, just not at that point yet.

Bass fishing etiquette??
Thanks for the clarification MN Fisher. Game Wardens here in Texas can stop you for any reason and ask for fishing license and check your catch for over limit or below size minimums on any species. There are daily limits per person, but also boat limits regardless of how many people on the boat are fishing. They can also fine you for over limits, under size fish, lack of PFDs for everyone on board a boat, and lack of all applicable safety regulations for boats. On a side note, there was a fairly large creek here in central Texas I used to fish a lot for bass and catfish, where the game warden used to check my fishing license and catch every time I went out. It happened so much that we knew each other by first name. I never got upset, I was actually glad to see it. Wish it happened more often on other bodies of water.

What, to you, is a “nice” bass?
Anything 3 lbs or over would be a nice bass for me.

Bass fishing etiquette??
MN Fisher, I am curious about the MN limit quoted in your post. How would a game warden know what is in your freezer at home? Is it an honor system? Unless I am missing something, I just don't see how that would work.

Bass fishing etiquette??
I keep fish to eat. I have no problem with that. I will not keep bass over 2 1/2 lbs. Anything smaller and legal, I will keep for eating. Larger bass are for future spawning. I have eaten catfish (blue, channel, yellow), fresh water drum, white bass, LM bass, crappie, Guadalupe bass ( these are smaller, but get fairly meaty), smelt, lake perch, bluegill, speckled trout, kingfish and sheepshead. I really don't do much saltwater fishing, but have been a few times. If it is legal and within state regulations, I see no problem with it. Oh, and I think fresh bass deep fried tastes delicious. To each his own.

I've Not Caught a Bass All Year...
Great Job! My son-in-law and I have been taking my grandson out with us fishing. He is only 2 1/2. He has his own rod and reel (with a hookless crank bait) and that little tyke can cast like a pro! Whenever either of us hook a fish, we let him reel it in for us. He gets a real (reel) thrill out of it! He isn't ready to hold or touch the fish yet, but he will get there. They are never too young to learn and appreciate fishing. I applaud all parents, relatives and friends who take the time to teach the youngsters the joy of fishing!

Hello From Central Texas
Hello all members, I am a new member from Central Texas. Been fishing my whole life, as I am now 66 and retired, I have a lot of time to fish. I have fished in the mountain streams of Pennsylvania as a kid for trout, in Lake Michigan for lake perch and smelt (via nets), in North Texas in stock ponds for bass (where I caught my PB 5 1/2 lb Largemouth), Lake Travis for LM Bass, White Bass, Catfish, Crappie, and anything else that would bite. Moved to San Diego for 5 years for employment and got back to Texas in 2018. Now living in the little town of Seguin Texas where my grandson lives. FInally got access to an older bass boat (aluminum hull), which my son-in-law and I are working on upgrading to more modern electronics and trolling motor. But in the meantime, we are currently working on mapping and finding the bass in Lake Placid. A part of the chain of lakes created by the Guadalupe River dams in Central Texas. Lake Placid was stocked in 2017 with 308,000 hybrid bass fry. Which I am sure maybe 5% survived to adulthood. I have caught a few keepers in the past couple fishing trips, but nothing to brag about. Still working on figuring out the lake. Thanks for reading and glad to be a part of a forum I have read for days on end.
