We caught 14 bass this evening, at our local pond. None of them were real big, about 15 " for the biggest ones, but we had fun. My 10 year old daughter caught one of the 15's on a Fat Ika. In fact, I caught all 6 of mine on a Fat Ika. The others were all caught on plastic as well. Our pond is so choked with weeds and moss that spinners are useless, so we started pitching plastic to the non weed infested areas. All were caught close to shore, pitching parallel between the bank and the weed line.
  2. Yeh, we have the same problem at our neighborhood pond, spirogyra and all kinds of other weeds so bad it is almost impossible to fish, and it's still early in the season. The geese are also another major annoyance. Previous owner used to have the pond sprayed with some chemicals to control weeds but he has since passed on and no one else is taking any care of the pond. I feel if it keeps going like it is, it will be completely clogged in a few years.
  3. Property taxes everywhere are out of control. Wish the yo-yo's in Pennsylvania would come up with an idea like that. Maybe people would move into the state instead of out of it.
  4. +1 Justfishin. I have nothing in common with these stars? either and I don't waste my money going to see their movies, with rare exception. Maybe 1 every few years. I resent it when they try to use their influence to control how I live my life. I could care less about Baldwin and his personal problems.
  5. Speed it up, slow it down. Let it sink a little, then rip it right or left. Try to make it act like a school of baitfish darting in the water. Try changing colors if you are unsuccessful. My most productive color has been the chartreuse and green skirts with painted blades or firetiger inline with black hackle.
  6. Is it advisable to open various bags of plastics and place them in the tray sections of tackle boxes? Or... should they remain sealed in the original plastic bags? I don't return them to their original packaging once they've been in the water. I'm creating a new tackle box with only plastics, jigs, hooks, etc for C rigs, and so on. If the plastic was open in the tray, colors, sizes, shapes are all handier without digging through bags of the stuff. But I didn't know if they would tend to dry out, loose their flavor and what not over the course of the year. Also, once the plastic has been fished, assuming it's not torn or otherwise destroyed, is it still effective in catching fish? How long do they last?
  7. Years ago, I purchased a red head jitterbug, but frankly, I never had any success with it. I still have it and I have changed the hooks to red, and I will give it more use this year. I have the perch, frog and black and the black is the best producer, 5/8 oz as Marty said. There is nothing quite like a black lake, on a warm summer night, no visible lure, just hearing the plop plop plop and then having a bass absolutely smash that black Jitterbug. You can fish them steady, or I like to give em a crank and get 3 or 4 plops out of them and let them sit for a few seconds.
  8. That looks good, WhiteMike. Where did you find that?
  9. Looks like a similar design as the wallet. Do your skirts get tangled or pinched?
  10. What do you guys use to store and carry your spinnerbaits around in. I have the Falcon spinnerbait wallet but I'm not real thrilled with it. The skirts are constantly pinched by a new spinner you put in and when I take out a bait I have to remove several to avoid stretching the skirts. Most plastic boxes either don't have big enough compartments or you have to put 3 or 4 on top of each other, also getting tangled. Any suggestions?
  11. Amen, Catt.
  12. Sorry to disagree. More gun laws or outright banning is NOT the solution. Chained doors, a can of gasoline and a match would have done just as much, if not more, damage. The gun was merely the tool with which to commit the crime. There were many others tools he could have chosen. The problem was the criminal intent.
  13. The Bible specifically lists the animals God intended for us to eat. Furthermore, God accepted Abel's offering of a lamb while rejecting Caine's offering of veggies. And Jesus fed the 5,000 with....FISH!
  14. My wonderful girlfriend and I had been dating for over a year, and so we decided to get married. There was only one little thing bothering me. It was her beautiful younger sister. My prospective sister-in-law was twenty-two, wore very tight miniskirts, and generally was bra less. One day "little" sister called and asked me to come over to check the wedding invitations. She was alone when I arrived, and she whispered to me that she had feelings and desires for me that she couldn't overcome. She told me that she wanted to make love to me just once before I got married and committed my life to her sister. Well, I was in total shock, and couldn't say a word. She said, "I'm going upstairs to my bedroom, and if you want one last wild fling, just come up and get me." I was stunned and frozen in shock as I watched her go up the stairs. When she reached the top she pulled off her panties and threw them down the stairs at me. I stood there for a moment, then turned and made a beeline straight to the front door. I opened the door, and headed straight towards my car. Lo and behold, my entire future family was standing outside, all clapping! With tears in his eyes, my future father-in-law hugged me and said, we are very happy that you have passed our little test.....we couldn't ask for a better man for our daughter. Welcome to the family." And the moral of this story is: Always keep your condoms in your car
  15. A guest interviewed on O'Reilly last night had the same opinion as Alpster, that if someone had been carrying their own firearm, things may have been very different. He further stated that in the end, we, not the police, are responsible for our own protection. When you think about it, police, for the most part, do not prevent a crime from happening, they are there to try and sort it all out afterwards and try to catch the perpetrator. Unfortunately, the fear of being shot and killed would not have deterred Hui, since this was his ultimate goal, but perhaps many of the innocent could have been spared. I grieve for the families of the victims but firmly believe we must stand strong and not cave to those who would take away our ability to protect ourselves and our families.
  16. Last year I purchased a 7' , 1 piece, MH "Muskie" rod from Gander Mtn. I'm not sure exactly why I bought it other than I was looking for a heavy duty rod, possibly for flipping, heavy cover, or bigger baits. The price was right, on sale for $30, regular price being $50. It definitely has a lot of backbone, and a 12" handle. I haven't had the opportunity to use it yet, and have wondered if this rod might be a little too heavy for my intended purpose. Also, I haven't figured out what reel I wanted to put on it. I was leaning towards the Abu Garcia 5500. Any comments or suggestions? Sorry, didn't mean to hijack this thread!
  17. I guess the latest spin is that global warming will cause wild and varied fluctuations in the weather, such as the cold and snow many of us are currently experiencing. Gotta create the problem to fit the solution.

  19. I sometimes turned on the tv and went to the station Imus was on.....just so I could turn him off. Guy's a jerk, IMO.

Definitely do not uninstall IE. Every once in awhile, you find a site that just doesn't work that well in FireFox. I find some government sites require IE to work correctly. But agreed with the previous posts, FireFox is definitely a superior browser.
  22. ROTF LMAO Frogtog, that's about the funniest story I've ever heard. I'm glad I wasn't drinking a cup of coffee, I would have had to clean the computer screen
  23. I would think that with a lure heavier than what the rating is on the rod, the lure is probably not going to go where you expect it to go.
  24. I didn't find ww2farmer's comments to be arrogant or offensive. I see the point he was making, regarding the occasional fisherman who just wants to get his line wet every now and again. In fact, my daughter wanted to fish some last year, and of course, I had to buy her her own rod and reel. I didn't even spring for an ugly stick for her. Cheapest combo I could find. Works for her and she's thrilled to have her own rod. (She's 10 BTW) There's a market for these inexpensive rods, and while they don't appeal to a lot of people, they definitely fill a niche. I have another combo here that I bought starting out, a Rhino rod and a Zebco 33 spincast reel. I don't use it any more but it's still here when my kids friends come over and everybody wants to go fishing. That's the rod they use. If they break it, no big deal.
