  1. Can I infer from this that anything over a 1 is unnecessary in a reel?
  2. That's the way a lot of people used to look... before McDonald's came on the scene. > Later on you'll wish you could get to that weight, believe me, I know. BTW GREAT fish, I'm jealous
  3. I've got bass on most of the aforementioned colores, but my most productive at our local pond has been chartreuse with black, green and copper flakes.
  4. Are you asking about an instant anti-reverse. If so it means that you can reel in the line but whenever you stop reeling the line is tight, for an instant hookset. There is no backplay in the handle or reel. I have a Pflueger underspin that does not have instant anti reverse and there is always a possiblity of slack line which must be taken up before you can achieve a hookset. You can remove the slack by reeling then setting the hook or by moving the rod far enough. Personally, the lack of an instant anti reverse annoys me, especially because it is on a reel I use for Crappie and other light biting fish.

I don't have the hang of the X-Rap either. But then I don't have a boat and they're too deep when I get them back to shore, especially with our low water levels.
  6. Rats! Now I gotta go spend some money at Dick's. The bait monkey does this on purpose. > ;D
  7. Love 'em. Mepps and Joe Bucher inlines. Talk about heavy duty. Run 'em right under the surface.
  8. I find it easier to throw heavier lures with a baitcaster.
  9. Yep, the arbor is the knot I use. I tie the end overhand knot first, then tie the other overhand, making a loop, then I put the whole loop over the spool and cinch it down. That's on spinning gear. Baitcaster is a little more difficult. Never had a fish take all my line.
  10. Unfortunately, its not just people out on the water, it's people everywhere else, as well.
  11. Well, I currently have 3 baitcasting reels, all on rods 6'6". 1 M and 2 M/H. The M and 1 M/H are Quantums, from WalMart. They are quite nice, I think, although far from being top of the line. The other is a MH from Dicks that I purchased for my son to learn bc but he hasn't got the hang of it, so I sort of use it. I fish mostly from the bank and this length works well for me, overall, for crigs, senkos, spinners, buzzbaits, etc.
  12. I like the terminator and the Booyah. Cheaper brands don't have as full a skirt and the wire bends easily. I like the Booyahs with the clacker as well. Makes a lot of racket. Black for night, white and chartreuse and you're good to go. Buzz baits are a blast at night. You can barely see 'em but you can sure hear 'em, then all of a sudden -- SLURP/SPLASH.
  13. I'm not a big fan of roostertails. I have a difficult time getting them to spin and stay spinning. Seems as if you slow the lure down, the spin stops and won't start again. Honestly, I don't buy any more roostertails. Mepps or BlueFox or Joe's Flies all work well for me.
  14. I was going to say that. I remembered reading that somewhere, and from personal experience, I caught a bass the other night on a senko that still had the bruising from being caught the night before.
  15. I believe there is something to what RW is saying. I've been up at my local pond everynight this week, from about 7 to 9 and I've been slaying them. I've caught so many I've actually lost count. But they have all been small to mid sized with 18 inches being the biggest. I know we don't have too many big ones in the pond but I'm going to give high noon a shot this weekend and see if the average size of the catch increases. BTW jigs, senkos, crigs and last night curly tail grubs have been working for me.
  16. I use a large eyebolt and some heavy cord to aid in learning to tie a new knot. Substituting it for the hook, it really helps me see how the knot is going to cinch down. BTW, palomar 99%
  17. Ah yes, I got a 22 incher out of our neighborhood pond last year. I put her back but haven't seen her yet this year. Hopefully nobody caught it and kept it. Should be another inch or two this year. I keep trying.
  18. +1 Muddy, way to go. That's what I found on my first jig bass. Hit that sucka on the way down. Surprised me too but after all I read here, I was kind of ready for it.
  19. Question for ya, Brokejew. Do you keep the weedguards on, trim them a little, or cut them off altogether?
  20. Sorry Muddy. I really didn't mean to rub salt in any wounds. If it makes you feel any better I can't buy a fish on a Rapala. Everyone else can but not me! >
  21. 4" Senko .245 oz. 5" Senko .350 oz. pretty doggone close to 1/4 ounce and 1/3 ounce. That's without hook.
  22. I tried jigs for the first time last night and threw some again tonight. End result, 3 bass. I'm impressed. I found I was able to feel the jig on the end of the line and after having read some of the tips here on bass resource, I knew what to look for when a fish was on. I was using a rattle jig from Bass Pro Shops and a Yo Mama trailer from Gander Mtn. Since the weather has been so hot here, I figured this evening they might be deep on the bottom. Sure enough, that's where they were. The jig was just the thing to get out in the deep water. Caught 2 more tonight as well on a Carolina rig with a Gander Mtn orange craw finesse worm. But I'm definitely going to give the jig a lot more use.
  23. Wow! You're right! Gotta order one. I'll worry about what goes under it later.
