look at the wear on #30 seaguer fluoro leader after 4 hrs.
weird that it is only at the swivel end while the hook and weight end is a direct tie onto hook and remains smooth and clean. The bullet weight pegged tight to the hook comes through the grass and pads pretty darn good and clean but the swivel and clip do at times catch alot of weeds when i bring the lure out of the water. I think that by catching the weeds with the clip and dragging them along for the retrieve is a reason for the damage up in that area of the line.

i switch out lures, hooks, baits often while chest deep in water and being able to clip on a new snelled bait of choice is fast and easy. This is the container i put into my wading pack containing my snelled baits.

thanks for the reply but it is in no way getting past the rod tip with this setup.

i have many snelled fluoro leaders clipped onto braid to make lure changes easy while wading. This particular leader caught me 4 good sized bass in heavy pads with heavy weeds beneath. I had to drag them in by pulling on the braided line by gloved hand. When i looked at the leader the next day i felt all the wear and looked at it close and was really surprised to see all the rough wear from the pads and weeds. The damage was all nearest the swivel side running about 4 inches down from swivel with no damage on or near the hook and weight. I was using a 3/0 ewg with a rage menace. I havnt encountered any rocks while wading and never snagged on a piece of timber or walked on any timber.

Is my Pfleuger Supreme 30 pinion gear bad? need answer, pics incl.
yeah i need a winch where i fish. Thought about the casting reel but not liking the stories of birds nests especially out wading and then having to deal with that and also wading i need to be able to bomb cast baits to any location when the water gets to deep for my waders. I am pretty happy my 30 lb spiderwire, vmc touchlock clips, spro #8 barrell swivels and the 30 lb fluro leader at the end of all that has held up to me pulling by hand.

Punching the lilly pads while standing in the middle of them.
i dont want to own another boat, maybe when i am in my 80"s i will change my mind. hi gimruis, i have chest waders on and it was cloudy and sprinkling a little bit, just enough to get my wet-dry shirt damp. Then the wind was blowing actually made it chilly standing out there so i waded in and got the windbreaker, put it on over my waders and was much warmer even though the bottom half of the windbreaker was submerged.

Thanks for the reply as it does get lonely out there so i talk to myself alot and do alot of thinking while fishing. Whats so strange and eerie when standing in the pads is the snapping turtles that come up to me and then a large pike swam a foot in front of me, panfish sucking the bugs making that weird poping sound, fish jumping in front of me if i move because i scared them while they really did scare me more. Big snow geese, canadian geese, ducks, cranes flying just yards away, so close you watch them and see there eyes and hear the wooshing of there large wingspan as they fly by. Cant forget the muskrats and beaver that welcome me into their territory swimming by like old friends. Wading is a blast, makes it feel like a real adventure but its not easy, trying to retie or put a new lure on while standing in chest deep water all the while keeping the reel out of the water while opening up my wading pack which is now soaked. I also caught a pike that day and had to pull out the mouth spreader and pliers from my pack and work to get the hook out. Heres a pic of my pack that i sling around my neck and shoulder and can rotate from back to front by pulling it around my body as it slides easilly. I use tubberware containers to keep my lures and worms in and what isnt in a baggie, nail clippers, pliers, scissors... just gets wet which i then spray down with wd-40 when i get home.

i carry a stringer on me in my wading pack and when i caught the big one i put her on the stringer and tied it to my pack and kept fishing. Then when i caught the other one i just kept her on the line as she was well hooked and then waded back to shore as it was 8.30 pm and gettin dark.

thank you for the info, makes sense. Maybe i just leave it as is because today while fishing the lilly pads i had to grab the line and pull straight with my gloved hand to winch them out of the pads today. The supreme 30 just didnt have the muscle to get them out on its own.

Punching the lilly pads while standing in the middle of them.
With the water levels so low here in minnesota and being a bank and wader fisherman i had to go all in and wade out into the lilly pads and give it heck. I threw a green pumpkin rage menace t-rigged with a pegged 3/8 bullet weight and I dipped the tails in yellow spike-it and let it rip out into the thick pads. I crawled it on top untill it would fall between the pads and boy did they hit it. I stood in the same spot for an hour and just casted all around me and when they hit it was a real struggle to get them out as the stalks of the pads were like casting into a full grown corn field underwater. I caught 7 bass and each one i had to at one point grab the line by hand and pull them through the pads as my pfleuger supreme 30 on a ugly stick carbon medium fast 7 ft with 30lb braid and a clipped on 30 lb fluoro leader to the hook didnt have the muscle to reel them in on their own but at least my line, clips and knots held up fine along with my arms and shoulders. This was the most fun i have had this year wading and the first time i caught fish on a rage menace, senkos t-rigged couldnt come through the pads without hanging up, rage craws didnt do well either but i will pull off 1 claw next time to make it more compact.

thats awesome, how does the pfleugers react to the increased drag, like do you only have to turn the drag adjuster 1/2 as much from before to get it to pull hard?

supreme all back together, works great, nothing worn gear wise. I cleaned all the old grease out for the first time for this reel. I used 409 to clean it along with q-tips and paper towels. The AR system was a bit confusing to put back together but like a puzzle it only went together 1 way. The parts breakdown can be a bit confusing. I oiled the sealed bearings by putting drops of rem oil on the cover plate and didnt put any grease on them like some folks do. I didnt put any oil on the AR system other than the switch which will get into the ar bearing system just from that. Some say to oil ar clutch some say dont. I used Red Devil synthetic gear oil/grease and didnt slop it all around inside but did get the gears a good coating on, under, and around. The drag system showed some felt laying around loose like little tiny pieces of fiber stuck together. I oiled the felt with rem oil and works as it always did which was good but would like more drag than the 10 lb factory drag.

Air is cool but thick with smoke this morning
loaded up the car here in minn-nd border and it is 68 degrees at noon. Hazy with fire smoke and it smells like the neighbor is burning his wood pile which i thought was true but its coming from canada? Reminds me of when i lived in california and camped out at the area around Columbia, an old gold mining town. The forests around columbia were burning but campers were allowed to camp and with all the smoke people just put up with it and went about their business as we did. We were there to dredge for gold, we had gold fever and nothing was gonna keep us from dredging so we dredged on.

Daiwa Spinning Reel question
the reason i like it and use it alot is when wader fishing. Wading amongst downed trees, submerged trees, wading up to my chest, constanty on the move balancing myself so i dont trip or fall into a hole. Doing all this i easilly lose track of my line-lure casting and reeling in a few hundred times. This leads me to reeling in the clip, yes i use clips, into the rod tip. I added a bobber stop and a plastic bead above the clip so as to not have clip hit the eye. Cant open a bail when bead is hard up against the rod eye, unless you force it. Also when wading if i get snagged its better for me to flip the switch and let the line out with the spool turning that way i can better controll the tension on the line so it dont get caught up in stumps or whatever else is around as i wade to take different angles to release snag. Anyway thats how i fish and thats what works for me and i have fished with reels with no AR and just really dislike not having it. What i think pflueger did by eliminating it is just a money grab, lets give the customer less options on our reels but still charge the same or raise the price. I am a retired mechanic, when i worked for john deere i went to many john deere tech classes for training on new equipment. On one of the engines for a riding lawnmower model which was their biggest sellng rider they eliminated the exhaust valve rotator. This rotator allowed the valve to rotate in its seat to keep the valve clean from carbon deposits. The instructor told us this rotator cost .25 cents per and it saved them many thousands of dollars overall. And for any john deere fans from the mid 90,s they started painting the mower decks flat black instead of john deere yellow because yellow was very expensive and flat black was the cheapest. This was all done on the same model mower, their best seller, all in the name of saving money for the company and giving the customer less of an engine and a less eye appealing mower to the customer. And i wont even mention how they cheapened up their snowblowers by going to a lesser guage steel, sigh.

Daiwa Spinning Reel question
well then when it comes time to buy a new reel i am going to buy a daiwa or a shimano model with the switch and if they eliminate it then i will buy a brand that still has a switch even if i have to pay more.
