  1. extra fast for this? It'll load up OK with an hj10? I guess I love my 6'10" exfast rx6 bet never thought of using a blank like that for a baitcasting setup. Most of my casting will be done side armed if that matters
  2. So I'd say 95% of my builds have been spinning rods. I fish a small river for smallies and get the occasional pike. We toss a ton of small jerk/twitch baits. Mainly husky jerk #10's. I'd love to build a nice baitcasting rod for this. I'll also take suggestions on reels and line, right now all my baitcasting stuff is for 1/2 ounce and up and running 40lb braid and higher. Thing is most guys I see from using the 'search' function build rods for this on a mod fast. In spinning I prefer fast and even ex-fast I get a nice twitch of the bait. Thoughts here.
  3. If I were you I'd probably get an MHX blank. I feel there standard line is pretty equal to scII and scIII depending on which one you get. There kits are pretty descent too. For a crankbait rod I'd also consider the CRB line they have. I've built plenty of rods on these as a lot of these blanks have a mod-fast action for cranking and I like them for live bait fishing too. I've had great luck with CRB guide kits also. SSR, performance and elite. I don't like there standard guides for spinning stuff at all....too heavy and lower frames. A blank like the is701 is a medium mod-fast and would handle cranks well. Also can get in colors and it's nice and light for a 7' medium at 1.61 ounces. Around 40-45 dollars for this blank.
  4. Thanks guys a wealth of knowledge. Looks like I should get a point blank. If anyone else has other suggestions please let me know.
  5. Mike K do you have a file of these #'s? Where do I find this? Thank you!
  6. Thoughts on the pb66mlxf? Specs are really close to the 6'9". I know. That being said I wanted to build the 6'10" mxf eternity. The reviews on this blank match the ccs database. Its more of a light rod than a medium and most guys are super disappointed in it. I have yet to hear someone hate there point blank.
  7. OK I can't find ccs data anywhere for a sb822.5. That being said if it is 438 the imms610mxf at 427 is close and the point blank pb701l is probably closer than the pb701mlf? I called batson today and they claim the eternity 6'10 mxf is just that. It isn't I've read too many negative reviews on it. I'm open to any suggestions. You guys have built a lot more than I so I appreciate the help. Honestly that imortal 610 probably would work great but man I hate the silver blank with a passion!!!!!
  8. Building a spinning rod. 6'8" - 7'. Not over 7'. Using it for husky jerks (hj10 mainly) and will also do some bottom contact fishing with light jigs and likely dropshot to 1/2 ounce. Right now using an old sb822.5 rx6. Does jerks well but lacks bottom contact sensitivity. Will be using titanium guides and carbon or cork handle. Not sure of carbon feel yet. Was thinking pb69mlf or pb69mlxf? Also eternity series looks nice that 610mxf, but have heard it is way overrated...fishes more like a ml or even a light.
  9. to me more depends if you are using braid or not. If you are alconite at a minimum. So far I've been lucky. I use a lot of crb performance guides. Love the fact they are pre-ground and weight wise they are good. I do get the 6' kits and run the stripper as a #20 to keep things light on most builds. Also for mono I have been using a ton of SSR guides. No issues to date. They are super light. The only thing I don't like is the ssr tips. Usually do the crb performance and elite tips. The LZR guides are nice too for the $$$. So many options with others used being fuji and american tackle
  10. Got two more of there blanks this week. Both feel and look great. 7'4" heavy for my son and a 7'6" musky blank for me.
  11. Rod is built! Got it done on Christmas night. Used a simple split grip with eva and cork along with klh fuji guides, kept it nice and simple. Total build is 3.8 ounces. Super happy to keep it this light!!! Paired with my 2500 Stradic ci4. Now for spring to come!!!!
  12. KLH fuji's are nice. Start with a 20 or even a 16. Many guide options and opinions out there. That is one light blank so if those recoils are really light that would be nice too. Would love a review of that blank once you use it.
  13. Yes I plan on trying this for rippin' raps for walleye along with shiver minnows, blade baits, and heavier jigs 3/8oz to 1/2oz. Actual drop shoting is last in line. I have a 6'9" bushido that does that well the few times a year I do it. Just hope its got a different feel than most the other rods I have. So many end up very similar.
  14. WOW good to know. Seems like an older proven design and I don't know much about blanks from back then. As old as I go is some of the Shikari stuff. I love the few I have. Wish I could find more of those.
  15. anyone build on this blank? I just got one. I've heard good things. One of the original extra fast blanks. Will be using it for dropshoting and jigging for walleye and smallies.
  16. I've used a couple and have been happy. Wish more people used them to find out how other blanks are. My favorite is a 7'9" heritage blank. That one is made in Korea. Super light and powerful. I'd like to find one of theres for jigging walleye and dropshoting.
