  1. 14.58?! Where on the lake? What lures were they using? I was out there from 11 until 130 with nothing to show for it. Glad someone had luck!
  2. Thought I'd update and upload pics. Here's a pic of the pond, as well as what wanted my Super Spook Jr.
  3. Perfect! I've got just the frog for it, too. They've been hitting super spooks lately. May have to ease way back on the cast, though. Every time I've tried to punch, it costs me tackle. I'll still keep an ultra vibe tied on, but was hoping for other suggestions that may draw out anything hiding in there.
  4. There's a small pond right by work. For years, I've driven by, never giving it a second thought. Well, I guess no one else considers it either, because when I stopped by, the fish were HUNGRY. I've never failed to snag at least one fish, be it a bream, bluegill, pumpkinseed, or large mouth. Panther Martins are killers. Caught a bass on a Texas-rigged Zoom Ultra Vibe. I doubt there are any large fish, but I did have about a 2.5lber get free from me today. The pond is maybe 35' long, 20' at the widest. Trees all around. Basically have to cast overhead from one spot, or try to flip. if there are big bass, I'm assuming they're under the grass at one end. It's something like water lettuce or some other grass. Punching rig the way to go? I've never tried that, and I'd prefer to not get hung up. Any suggestions? Tight lines, folks!
  5. Same. I have great luck with whopper ploppers. It's become the "nothing else is getting hit" bait, and it usually produces
  6. Take this with a grain of salt, because I'm great at catching drinks. My PB is maybe 3.5lbs., and it was the first bass I got. Next best ones were maybe 2-2.5lbs. I love using Zoom trick worms. Weightless Texas rig on a 4-0 ewg gamakatsu hook. It's what I caught my best on, and it still produces. I've tried lipless cranks, chatterbaits, jerkbaits, wakebaits, shakeyhead, jigs, etc. All of them have caught me fish. My go-tos on rough days are Trick worms or Whopper Ploppers, at least when the water warms. Cold water, and I have some luck with drop shot.
  7. I've heard good things about the lake at BPAC on Appling, but haven't made it out there myself.
  8. Good news is I already have most of the lures mentioned in this thread, so I don't feel compelled to buy more! I've got a slew of spinnerbaits, but they've never produced. I've had some luck with chatterbaits, but no monsters. Are spinners effective from the shore?
  9. @Deleted account I dunno about the twitching uncontrollably. If the missus sees another TackleWarehouse box, or Bass Pro bag, she may bust out the frying pan. One good wallop and a-twitching I shall go. But, at least lures don't really have a shelf life, and they get me out and about. Only thing stopping me getting a boat is I really ought to wrap up house projects first. Oh, and find a place to store said boat.
  10. I feel personally attacked. I can't seem to break the pattern: see a pic of an 8lber caught on some odd lure I don't have, then purchase it and all it's cousins (weights, colors, etc.), and proceed to catch jack diddly with it. And then a new pic comes out. Rinse and repeat. I have all kinds of goodies. You'd think I was retired and fish 24/7, but I'm just a shorebound guy who gets out maybe once a week for a few hours. Reading @A-Jay's stages of fishing, I think I'm late stage 2, moving into 3.
  11. That'll be the first thing I try. I'm pretty sure I have some 1/4oz, maybe a bit bigger, so it will keep the monkey away a while longer. If I already have some 10lb power pro, I'll try that after. Why don't I want to go over the edge of the drop off? I ask in all seriousness.
  12. Would y'all recommend running the Power Pro Super Slick V2 for this? I've only ever used the regular, and I've become partial to the high-vis yellow.
  13. Thanks for all the advice, folks! I'll double check my braid. If it is in fact 20lb, I'll switch to 10. Cheaper to do that than to pick up another rod, for sure! Disappointed in the distance, because I've got a 6'6 ultralight that will cast a rooster tail or egg hook/bobber a mile. I used that rod for drop shot, but I can't remember if I got more distance or not. I've been using drop shot since it was suggested to me a month or so ago. Tough to break away now that it's actually producing results. I'm going for distance, as one of the lakes I go to is pretty shallow for about 30yrds, then drops off with a pretty steep slope. Used to be a quarry, until the city put some busses in the bottom and flooded it. I know there are some 5, 10, and even 12lb fish in there, as I've got an acquaintance who slays em there. I'm happy to catch these little 2 and 3 pounders, but like anyone, I'm gunning for a lunker. I've tried Ned rig, but it hasn't produced all that well for me, so maybe I'll give it another go. And I'll look into that slip shot rig, @WRB. Thanks a ton, folks!
  14. Hey folks, I'm shorebound, and enjoying drop shotting. Prior to this year and last, I never considered fishing during cold weather. Drop shot is changing my mind on that, as I actually get bites! However, I can't seem to cast it far, maybe 15-20 yards. I'm using a 7'6 medium light spinning rod with Pflueger Supreme 2500 reel. Spooled with 20lb braid and 6lb leader. Typically use 1/8oz weight on a 12" lead to the swivel hook, and a variety of soft plastics. Given I'm shorebound, I'd like to gain more distance. I can't tell if it's my technique, gear, or just the nature of drop shot. My cousin recommended switching to a casting setup, and I have a Curado MGL I could use, but I don't have a medium light casting rod. I think I'll be evicted if I get another rod before finishing up the shed, so I'd like to hold off on more gear. Get thee from my sight, bait monkey! Any thoughts?
  15. Ah, therein lies the rub: I'm shorebound, so I don't know the depths I'm fishing. I've thought about getting a Deeper, but those suckers are pricey, and I'd be bummed if it came off during a cast.
  16. Ya know, I've been wondering this: how can you tell when you've got a strike on the drop? While reeling, it's easy, as you can feel the resistance and jerks, but if you're letting the line unspool on the fall, how do you feel the bite?
  17. Caught a trout on a rebel wee craw when I was gunning for smallies in a creek. Caught a few crappie and bream on Texas rigged trick worms when I was going for large mouth.
  18. Got out yesterday afternoon and tried a roboworn. Following another's advice since I'm banking it, my weight-to-hook leader was about 12", since I'm dragging it across the bottom. Do roboworms float? Seemed like most casts, it came back with algae and other bottom refuse. Was using 1/8oz tungsten weight. I've got some neutral and slightly buoyant plastics inbound, so I'm looking forward to trying it.
  19. Yes, mainly light jigs, Texas rigged worms on EWG, drop shot, etc. The main hope is to gain more distance in the cast, given the light weight.
  20. Hey folks, I've been eyeing a 7'6 St. Croix Premier Spinner rod, ML, for tossing weightless Texas rig worms, drop shot, finesse, etc. I've been looking at it because I've always heard, longer rod equals longer cast. I'm walking the bank almost exclusively. Given they're the same price, is there any reason I shouldn't consider the 7'6 and should go for the 7' instead? Almost all my rods are 7', except for my heavy jig/swimbait rod, and it's 7'3. Much obliged!
  21. Honestly, no clue. The guy I speak with fishes a ton, but he does at Bass Pro, after all. Maybe he's just really good at fleecing me for mah money!
  22. Figured it might be easier to just post a few quick pics! However, I am completely open to correction as to what I should get. Bass Pro didn't have any Zman shotz, thus the desire to order some. Went with tungsten weights because the guy at Bass Pro, aka my pusherman, said tungsten makes a smaller splash.
  23. Yep, I'm stuck walking banks for the time being. No boat, and not sure enough in my kayaking just yet!
  24. Hey folks, I've been hearing drop shot is the way to go in my area right now, and I've never tried it. I picked up some drop shot weights (1/8 and 3/16 tungsten), hooks, etc. However, I have no drop shot soft plastics. Ample Zoom trick worms, senkos, etc. Thinking of starting up a lil Tackle Warehouse order, so I wanted to see if there are any recs on what I might need to drop shot properly? I've got a few hooks and plenty of line, but on the soft plastics, I was looking at Zman's Long Shotz and Trick Shotz, as I've heard they're pretty neutrally buoyant. Any other plastics, hooks, weights, etc I should consider? Do you want the lure to float, sink, or just kinda hang out? As always, thanks for the advice and wisdom!
  25. Following, as I've always wondered the same, but have just thrown stuff together randomly.
