  1. Thanks for all the advice, folks. With regards to confidence, I feel I'll always throw a weightless Texas-rigged worm. It's what I caught my first bass with (happened to be my PB), and I feel I can snag a few with it, regardless of conditions. Working on getting larger fish. I can nail dinks with worms, but larger fish don't seem as interested in Zoom trick worms. That said, I also have a ton of cranks, jerks, chatters, spinners, etc. Don't get me started on soft plastics; I thought I had more than enough, and then yesterday, realized I didn't have a big enough variety of flukes and paddle tails, so I got some, and need more storage for it! The particular spot I fish has been muddy/stained every time I fish it. Except yesterday; it was gin clear! Given this is just a lake, and nowhere close to a river/stream, I guess it's been the lack of rain that allowed it to clear up. I guess I'd just like to have it and not need it. However, with regards to plastics, how can you predict what they're gonna want? Worms have killed at this lake, but had no strikes yesterday. Swapped to a paddle tail and BAM! I guess until I get better at figuring out what they're gonna want, I'll be a regular ole pack mule.
  2. Hey folks, I'm one of those people that, when they get involved in a hobby, they get REALLY involved. As such, my gear has expanded from one rod/reel to five, and my tackle box went from one medium to two large, to a backpack and small duffel. I also feel compelled to take all the tackle with me, every time I go. The backpack isn't the problem, and I can limit myself to three rods. The problem has become the duffel, which holds all my soft plastics. After the visit to Bass Pro this morning, I now need a second duffel, as I picked up more flukes and a variety of paddletails My question is, when paring back, do you limit yourself to a bait type, such as only taking worms, flukes, or paddletails, or do you limit by taking only a few of each? I never know what the bass are biting, so I tend to take the gamut, including all sizes, types, and colors. Many thanks, tight lines, and happy Sunday!
  3. Just looked at one of these. I now understand your points. Tempted to try one, as I can see it mimicking a school. What do you rig on there? Grubs, flukes, etc?
  4. I went from never landing a bass to landing 34 in one weekend. All caught on weightless Texas rig, 2/0 Gamakatsu with a Zoom Trick Worm. They haven't been interested in worms lately, but they have taken an interest in poppers or Whopper Ploppers.
  5. Hey, I hear you're giving up you boat...
  6. Weightless Texas rigged worms are what landed me my first bass. Went from never catching a bass to catching 34 in a weekend. Only change I'm making from the 2/0 ewg and Zoom tricks is adding 4/0 and 5/0 with some 10-1/2" and 12" worms. I hear ya gotta have big bait to catch big bass, so imma give it a go.
  7. I worked Candy Bug, Watermelon Red, and Bourbon Blaze, depending on weather. All were working. I went on a bit of a spree and got a ton of other colors too: merthiolate, pink, black, red, etc. Catching 1lbers like crazy. Last time I was out there, it sounded like someone was chucking bowling balls in the water. Gonna try some dusk fishing, see if I can get some customers.
  8. Happened just about a month ago. Went from catching zero bass ever to 34 in one weekend. All were caught on Zoom trick worms. Biggest was on a bed, about 3-4lbs, and caught with Candy Bug color. I've heard some monsters break the water in that same lake, so now I'm jumping up to 10-1/2 and 12" worms, see if I can't catch the bigguns.
  9. Good Lord! Save some for the rest of us. Well done, amigo!
  10. As a new user to this site, sounds like there is some history I don't know about.
  11. Heck, my soft plastic work is terrible. Ran into a tournament guy at bass pro, he even rigged me some stuff based on where I fish. My entire childhood was spent on rooster tails, so I'm having to learn how to present lures in a fashion other than cast out, reel back. Having fun, though!
  12. If you don't mind sharing, where in Memphis was this? Have you been having luck thusfar this year? I can't get a fish to even look at what I throw.
  13. Ooof, I feel that comment regarding bringing half of Bass Pro with me. I see what other folks are using and catching with, and then I gotta go get it. Merthiolate trick worms are my white whale. I look for em every time I go, but always outta stock. With my luck, I'll finally get them and still not have much luck getting this skunk of my back!
  14. Hope y'all have fared better than I. Tried Grove Park today, Shelby Farms a few times, and down in Olive Branch. Skunkfest! At least it's warming up, so I strike out on pretty days.
  15. Do you folks have much luck in the milder/colder weather? I've always just fished in the warm months, but I've been missing wetting a hook. Work is ramping up, and it'd be nice to have a few hours away from the phone. I've been trying the Collierville City Hall pond, and Shelby Forest if I have a ton of time. Anyone know any holes near Olive Branch?
