  1. Ended up ordering a 13 Fishing Defy Silver. On sale at the local Fleet Farm.
  2. Here I am doing some fishing. Catch some on a 1/32 Beetle Spin. Go to make a cast, line and top half of rod go flying out. Whatever, it happens when you do check the "connection" on a 2 piece rod. Then I start reeling. NOTHING, no resistance, no top half of the rod no lure. Look down, I see the line that was formerly the knot. Can't see the top half of the rod anywhere. I guess the only good news is that it was just an Okuma Celilo and didn't cost very much. I have a $60 budget. Looking for a one piece rod this time and at least 6'. I'm going to be using it for smaller cranks, lipless cranks, Beetle Spins, jigs, etc, etc. What do you guys suggest? Thanks for all the help with my multiple posts. I would just pick something random, but having some input from actual users' experience outweighs any review I could find online. Thanks and have a good one! Pete
  3. I don't even think you can find a Daiwa Presso for a reasonable price. I also like the look of the TFO UL rods
  4. Not quite sure I could go with a 7 foot. The areas the fish are in are starting to get overgrown with the trees. I'm wondering if maybe the treble hooks are a bit small as well. They are size 14. I'm wondering if I went to a bigger size that might help. Or if that is just part of the game. Could be not enough pressure on the fish or too tight of a drag. I will be looking at getting a fast action for jigs though
  5. I'm wondering if I can find a moderate fast UL rod. Crappies are hitting small cranks but I seem to be missing a lot of fish. I'm wondering if it's the action of the rod I have. I have an Okuma Celilo 6' but it doesn't list an action. I'm think I would like a fast action for jigs and moderate fast for small cranks. I love my moderate fast action baitcaster for cranks while bass fishing and don't lose hardly any fish. Thanks and have a good one! Pete
  6. Maybe I'll try the Nanofil before I try another rod. I've already spent a lot on fishing related gear this year.
  7. I'm going fishing with my dad later this morning! It's literally been years since we fished together. We haven't decided if we are wading or taking the Jon boat out. We will be fishing on the Flambeau River. I hope the smallie fishing will be as great as I remember growing up. Going to be hot tomorrow though. I have a ned rig rod and a wacky rig rod ready to go. I also have a rod with a snap swivel for inline spinners, jointed Raps, small jerkbaits, small cranks, etc, etc. I'm sure some of you are questioning the snap swivels, but growing up fishing the river, it was the best way for quick lure changes and only had 1 rod and reel back then. I'm super excited and hope to catch a lot. I'll be sure to post pics! Have a good one! Pete
  8. 4lb line in roughly 2lb diameter seems like a win win to me. I'll probably have to order the Sunline but for now I think I'll try to find some other 2lb mono. If that still causes issues I might spring for a longer rod
  9. Spool is getting a little low. So you think .002 smaller diameter line will make that much of a difference? I was thinking about going to 2lb test, but that 4lb sublime might be the same diameter as 2lb mono
  10. Daiwa Revros 2000 LT and 4lb Berkely Sensation
  11. I guess I never really worried about how the lure loads the rod. Is there an easy way to do this? Maybe I am just being to soft with the casts and need to put some more snap or whip into it (if that makes sense). I'm also bad a judging distance so it's possibly I'm casting them plenty far. Would switching to a lighter line be beneficial?
  12. I have a 6' UL Okuma Celilo and am having problems with casting distance. These problems occur with 1/32 and 1/16 lures. Road Runner and Beetle Spin so far. I'm currently using 4lb mono. I'm wondering if switching to 2lb mono or similar FC diameter would help with this or if I need to consider a longer rod. I picked up a fairly inexpensive combo for bobber fishing so this would only be for casting spinners, jigs, cranks, etc, etc. Thanks and have a good one! Pete
  13. 3/4" for anyone else wondering. I was gonna try the 1/2"
  14. Seem to have problems using a small jig and bobber. Probably just small fish and too big of a jig
  15. How in the world do you even cast something that small?!?! What size, do you remember?
  16. Just starting using a slip bobber. Makes casting a whole lot easier and less tangled messes, even though I'm not fishing very deep. It's probably been 26 years since I used a bobber last. Again, I'm also thinking it has more to do with small fish trying to take the bait. The bigger panfish and crappies, size of my hand, seem to take the bait just fine. Still learning.
  17. What would you suggest as a longer rod? 6'6" or 7'? My current UL is 6' and think I'll make that work for smaller lures.
  18. Geesh. Might have to get another setup for bobber fishing and use the UL for small spinners, cranks, and jigs. The wife is gonna kill me...
  19. Possibility on the slack line. I have it tight enough to where I can barely lift the rod tip and move the bobber. It's a 6 foot rod. I'm sure it will get easier the more I fish.

  21. First off, I love the forums here. I'm starting to learn a lot and love learning about fishing. I grew up(6th grade through my senior year) on a river (Flambeau) south of a little community called Bruce. Smallmouth galore. Many, many summers in spent the day wading the river. I don't even have an estimate of how many I've caught. I stopped fishing for many years because I got into PC gaming and it was hard to find time to fish with work and real life. I just got back into fishing last year. Now at the age of 36, I find myself married and have a one year old son. Needless to say, not a good time in my life to be addicted to something(at least it's fishing and not other things). I'm now living in the Eau Claire Wisconsin area and find myself fishing mostly lakes. Using new techniques and baits has been a blast. Chatterbaits, ned rigs, wacky and neko rigs. The list goes on. My new favorite is catching panfish on my UL setup. Thanks for stopping by and reading some about me. I'm sure I'll be posting a lot and helping other anglers out when I can. Pete
  22. Which do you prefer? I would assume the Donkey Tails would attract bigger fish such as bass and pike(not anything wrong with that) but might be more hassle than it's worth.
  23. Just got my UL setup this year and am having a blast with the bluegill and crappies. I seem to missing a lot of fish. This is happening on a slip bobber and fixed bobber. One of two things is happening, as far as I can tell: 1. They are super small fish and just playing with the bait (gulp minnows) 2. I am just not being patient enough. Thoughts? I'm also curious to know if these same fish would hit a small jig, spinner, or crank. Seriously, I never thought I could have as much fun as I've had the last few days catching panfish. Thanks and have a good one! Pete
