  1. I use TA Micro clips for hard baits like cranks, poppers, lupless cranks etc all the time. No issues.
  2. Yea i recently disassembled it for the first time (seriously) since I bought it to give it a good cleaning/ greasing. Absolutely no corrosion from the saltwater. Very good quality reel.
  3. I've had the Smoke HD for 3 years now, it saw heavy use for fluke and tautog in the salt and is now my dedicated frog reel. Its and incredible value. The only issue I had was the levelwind gear stripped a tooth while fighting a tautog. Easy fix. I just got my curado K today and can't wait to see how it works. They are sooooo smooth.
  4. No I get that. But why the buzz all of a sudden? You used to be able to just walk into a shop and buy them.
  5. I'm all for using a killer bait and pumping the odds in my favor of catching more or bigger fish because of it. But what is the buzz about these now? Guys on Facebook are trying to flip bags of them for like $15 a pop.
  6. Dumb question but it popped into my head this AM. Do you guys thumbs the spool on a hookset when fishing a baitcaster? I do. It seems no matter how I set my drag it'll always slip a tiny bit on a hard set. Id rather thumb it and bury the hook than risk a sub par hookset. I just let the drag do its thing while fighting the fish.
  7. Being Long Island is sooo overpopulated, there's really no such thing as an unknown spot anymore, however having a kayak makes it much easier to get into smaller spots that nobody else can with a boat or from the bank. Just today I was able to get to this area because it was only 1-2 feet deep but the guys with trolling motors wouldn't come near.
  8. Thanks everyone. The main problem is the state shuts down the lake if there's a bloom, until its cleared safe by the state (eye roll)
  9. Yeah I didn't notice a sewage smell but ill still err on the side of safety. Thanks for the info!
  10. Lovely. Welp looks I ain't fishing there for a while. God I hate summer pond fishing lol
  11. Didn't show up until I was back at the dock after fishing all morning. Is this BGA? Seems like the wind blew it all into the corner where the docks are. The water level was super high from 2 days of rain but it was pretty clean.
  12. 734 was the better choice. Broke it in this morning, nothing of size but its VERY sensitive and casts awesome.
  13. Yeah I fish a lot of weedy and sticky areas. I picked up the 734c today, put a daiwa fuego and 15lb invizx on it. Took some practice casts in the yard to tune it in. This thing LAUNCHES a 3/8 with trailer with very little effort. Hope to land a fatty on it tomorrow. Thanks for the info guys.
  14. I'm really stuck. Currently using a Lews Carbon Fire MH/F 7 ft rod but I wanna upgrade a little bit. I played around with some dobyns fury rods and they're super nice. I can't decide which to go for though. It'll be a dedicated spinnerbait rod for baits 3/8-1/2oz. Which would you go for? From what I understand dobyns tend to be slightly over rated weight wise?
  15. Tsunami 7'6 ML Scaletech Spinner with a shimano sahara 2500 Or ST Croix Triumph 7' MH (Its def over rated for action) with a shimano sahara 2500 Cheap. And they work great.
  16. Sometimes. Ill say an honest 70% of casts/skips end up where intended. But sometimes I cast and it makes me go 'what the heck was that". Surfcasting though, surgical.
  17. As I went to net her she jumped up and shook the hook. Any time they jump i lose them on a spinnerbait. Anything with treble, never.
  18. Largemouth don't get big around here, average is 1.5-2lb as a "good one". My best was 4 lbs so far. This thing was all of 5lbs+. You could fit a grapefruit in its mouth. Man I was just trying to tune in my spinnerbait set up for this weekend ? lol. It seems like the most fish I lose are only on spinnerbaits, no idea what im doing wrong. MH Fast rod, 15lb invizx, nice hook set.... I need a drink.
  19. Popper, ned, spinnerbait. That order. After that, I throw the tackle box at em til something sticks.
  20. Or gather rain water
  21. Yikes. May have ti reevaluate some things. Im not about to be spending that much on electric. Thats insane.
  22. Nah I'd be pretty annoyed about that too. Boat traffic is never fun, especially if you're on a kayak like me.
