  1. i was about too but i dont know........20 bucks.......it's one of those "it HAS to be good for that price". But there's some pretty expensive stuff out there that STILL doesn't work.
  2. And before the cold temps start to roll in in the next month in a half, i wanna get out to the lake. I haven't fished in a long long time due to work and other matters such as being evicted out of my house of 17 years and needing to move 17 years worth of stuff in one night, not fun i must say. But anyways.......i read the articles and stuff and figured jerkbaits, soft jerkbaits to be exact, work wonders around this time because the bass are starting to fatten up on bait fish. So today i went out and bought...well aquired since i had a 30 dollar gift card, figured id use it to get some of those "pricey" lures that i had no want to buy before because they were so "pricey". I got some Gulp Minnow Grubs, Gulp Minnows, Gander Mtn brand jerkbaits, rooster tails, and a spoon. Any advice for this type of weather? I mean if none of those work i have a tackle box full of stick baits, power worms, all kinds of plastics haha. Any help would be appreciated, never really fished this time of year (Im up north so the temps are starting to drop and so are the leaves :-D ) ben
  3. Hmmmm, up here in Washington PA they stay pretty stocked. i know the guy personally who is the top guy in the fishing department I'll ask him about it.
  4. Ah! The black magic series! Great baits, really are, because they are cheap in $$$. I buy the craw trailers for my jigs and they work wonderfully. The finesse worms work great too, haven't tried the stick baits yet as i have a whole package of dingers to go thru before i need to go bait shopping again. I would suggest anyone into looking at these lures, try em out, they are wonderful.
  5. Any suggestoins on a good popper or chugger?
  6. thanks for the tips guys. see.....i tried some popping yesterday and nothing was hitting at all. I tried a larger sized one and nothing so i figure ok downsizing would help but the smaller one i have is too light to cast out and just creates a mess of my line.......maybe i can get something in between the 2 sizes. what are some good colors for really hot clear sky weather?
  7. No not some title to a 60's freelance video title........anyways.... The pond im fishing is strictly a shore fishing pond, it's just way too shallow in most places with one narrow deep cut in the middle. I've been doing ok this season since spring gettin' em out of the cover along the shore and around structure about 20 feet out. Well, it's hellacious hot now, lowest temp is 90. Seeing that it's that hot, you figure they're out in that narrow stretch of deep water. Well, I've tried carolina rigging all over that lake using craw trailers, power worms, and even senkos. There's a not so high layer of thin milfoil on the bottom of the whole lake except up on the shallows. What's the best way of keep baits off of a bottom like that even if there are bass on the bottom of that lake (whicn i doubt there is). Becaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaause, leading to my other issue here. The weeds......actually brush I should call it, is so thick you can't see even one little pindot of a glimmer of water. Even going weedless you will get hung up and that extends all the way out from shore 3 feet. Ever since these high temps ive been trying to get em out of that cover by somewhat paralell casting to the shore as much as i can without getting hung up but no sucess. Should I slow down or what with this cover? AND last but not least.........DRAGONFLY'S! There are TONS........and i mean TONS of dragonfly's up here at this pond. Millions and millions. 3 or 4 will land on the top of your pole at one time. Ever since this "spawning" of them the bass have been jumping out of the water to gobble down these things. Seems like every second somethings jumping out of the water. Is there a topwater lure that looks like a dragonfly and will it be effective? I have a problem using light topwaters. I don't have a light action rod and it's a spinning outfit with 12lb test so gettin it out there is tough, any suggestions for "The One Who Snacks the Dragonfly" ? Thanks in advance guys! Ben
  8. thanks man!

Try tube lead heads. The hooks have lead molded slimly onto the hook so there is lead about 1/4th the way up the shank. Never have tried frogs but that's the best thing i can think right now. Good luck! Ben
  10. Hmmmmm, the lake i fish is exactly as you describe. I LOVE to throw DARK colors in CLEAR water. My most effective colors have been greens and browns all with black flake. Nothing shimmering or flashy. A dark watermelon color would be my first choice, followed by BLACK. Really deep dark black, then if all else fails, something thats a rich brown color or pumpkinseed. Good post by the way...... Ben
  11. I've been seeing a lot of suggestions about skirt up fat ika's. So the usual... 1. How do you rig it 2. What's it look like 3. Why so productive? and any input of your liking if you wish..... thanks a bunch!
  12. In the mouth, up right betwen the eyes, the "nose" so to say. BTW, if you don't find this effective, try to find some clearish or pearl colored plastics, any type preferably some sor of stick bait or a thick worm with BLACK flake. I've read it somewhere before and experimented with it, but if you find bass that are feeding on bluegill, the black flake makes the bait look like a little blue gill fry. Anything really with black flake will work but in my own experience ive found that a clear or pearl plastic with black flake works wonderfully. Black flake is the way to go.
  13. round headed jig n pigs, stand up jigs with grubs, try some shallow cranks, give the topwaters a few throws
  14. Yes this site and these forums are very helpful, just like you I had no idea on how to bass fish but these guys taught me and I taught myself. I'll share my knowledge with ya........ First thing I must tell you is go WEEDLESS! Eagle Claw makes some nice weedless hooks. Very nice weedless hooks. Gander Mountain, Cabelas, Dicks, Wal Mart.....any of those stores will have them. The weedguard is very durable. Ive only had one weedguard come off only because a bass was gut hooked and instead of pulling on the hook i pulled on the weedguard with the pliers. Why use hooks with weedguards instead of texas rigging? Well, second thing I need to tell you is use stick baits, whether its Senkos, Tiki Stiks, or Yum Dingers. And you need to use them weightless. You can use a texas rig with out the weight but we're going to fish the senko type bait wacky, right thru the middle of the worm. So the weedguard protects the exposed hook from weeds. Fish weed edges parallel to the shore not right in front of you. And more than likely you will end up in the weeds which is a good thing because bass will be IN the weeds. But try to stray from casting into the weeds, it will be more productive when fishing the edges. And slowly bring the stick bait to you by just reeling in a little bit and let it sit. You can do this with any type of bait but recently senko type baits are very popular. Once you've fished the weed edges all around the impoundment you are fishing, throw some jig n pigs out in the middle and slowly bring it back to you, this will scope out structure holding bass and makes you get a feel for the lake. Carolina rigged worms work great for this too. Top waters and cranks/swims.......eh, i've had a few on them from shore but not many. Spinner baits tho are superb buzzed right along the weed edges. Hope this helps.
  15. From the little experience ive had with baitcasting it's much smoother than spinning gear. I use spinning gear only and when i crank em or swim em, it's a hell of a battle. THe added "wobble" from the crank to me makes it feel like the reel is off balanced and you fight it so it wears you out. Even the most expensive most balanced reels feel al iittle off. With baitcasting the line spools left to right smoothly, spinning gear line spools up and down so to say and around in a wide circle. just my thoughts
  16. yes i know the fire department needs water to fight fire im not stupid. they have their own "dam" so to say they take water out of and its not down or drained............
  17. UPS Night shift. Unloading all the daily pick ups from the brown trucks and loading them into 32 foot twin pup trailers for departure to New Stanton PA, bagging smalls, processing international packages.
  18. hmmmm....a few Senko/Yum Dinger 4 inch size Orange/Brown Jig with same color craw trailer Weightless power worm pumpkinseed
  19. that really sucks. i know the sportsman club shy's away from putting anything into the lake and made it a rule last year. It's a shame. Nice private lake with some great fishing.......my brother said the local fire department came over yesterday and pulled some water out of the dam (that's what it is but its called "Cokeburg Lake"). d**n :-(
  20. Decided to take my brother fishing up to the lake this afternoon. He's kinda new to bass so i was going to teach him. Soon as we went to the only place without any weeds to tangle us up we saw literally, all the fish that was in the lake dead on top of the water. There were hundreds of dead bass. No one sprays at the lake, it's run by the sportsman club. We went over to another good spot with some fallen tree's and such and some weeds and all the weeds were matted down and all the fish over there too were all dead! This sucks! I don't know what could have happened that all those fish died over night because i was just there last night. There's at least 10 huge grass carp in there could that have been it?
  21. hehe thanks :-) yea.......really found out the hard way lol. oh well, they aren't that expensive and all i need is one. thanks for the tips again!
