  1. Wacky. It falls perfectly fine when t-rigged but IMO it falls DIRECTLY horizontal when wacky rigged. No one seems to know why but they can't resist it wacky. But im not prejudice against trigged, i have tried it and had some nice hits on it.
  2. Hmmmm, you might have to go hunt. Go weedless......i stress.........weedless. Do a lot of flipping into holes in the brush, under the tree's, etc. Try weightless first. When searching for em keep in touch with your line (watching it, feeling it). The strikes might be subtle. Weedless tubes work fine in brush. I'm tryin to think of what i use specifically in dense cover. Only thing that comes to mind is you might want to try shaky jigs with medium sized grubs. Just experiment in various locations. If you find that you can't find any try near that creek, the creek mouth even IN the creek. You just gotta hunt for them. Good luck!
  3. Both are good times to hit the pond. Im on the other half of the country (Pennsylvania to be exact) and all around the country it's starting to get WARM. The body of water you are describing sounds like the lake i fish. In the morning, it's cover cover cover near the shore. As the day progresses start fishing out further from the shore. And SLOW it down. Works perfectly for me every time. Towards the evening hours when the sun starts to set do the reverse. Start out in the middle, fish slowly and then slowly work your target towards shore cover. Both real perfect times to fish. You can still fish during the heat of the day around cover. Just remember to keep YOURSELF in safety. Such as wearing and re applying sunscreen, have lots of water with you and have something to EAT. Your body not only needs H2O but energy too. Good luck!
  4. 2 stories actually....... Me and a buddy were fishing a small lake on a boat we had rented from the office. Got on the water and it wasn't going very well. He casted out one way I casted out another. I was using some sort of tube on the bottom and he was using a worm. I kept on getting hit after hit but kept on missin em. FINALLY, got a huge strike. Seconds later something had hit HARD on my friends set up. We kept on reeling and reeling effortlessly, too easy. I could feel the end of my line coming up hoping to see the catch of a lifetime. Before ya know it i hear "oh *****". My buddy's pole went in the water and then i felt a HEAVY pull on my line. Reeled in.......and caught myself a 6 in a half foot line spitting fish, lol. DOn't know how it happened but we snagged each other. Pretty funny.... now on my girlfriends behalf.....she's told me this many a time. She was out fishing with her dad. She landed this MONSTER. Moments later her dad hooks into something. While he was reeling he was saying something to the sort "it feels like a lunker". Bring it in and turns out to be a little dink. She starts laughing and he jokingly says "Shut up and fish."
  5. Ha! Wanted to try out night fishing tonight. Well, im constantly night fishing for catfish but tonight I wanted to try some night time bass. And while i was at it i wanted to try the jig and pig method we've been discussing here. I tied on a black spinner and it didnt do the trick, im not very confident with them anyways. So i threw on my black/blue BOOYAH rattle jig with pumpkinseed crawchunk and started to bounce it off the bottom. Before i knew it, 2 fish on the shore. They were larger than average for that lake but no monsters, but it was good for me. Lost the jig tho on a submerged rock cliff :-( oh well. No pics :-( But i did figure out the jig and pig and night fishing for bass :-) wooooooooooooot! thanks for the help guys!!!!
  6. i have various jigs that are pointed like that, thanks for the advice man!
  7. It takes a little more time to set up and probably best if you have a vest (was a poet and didnt know it) but instead of having your rods pre rigged ready "out of the truck", keep your line clipped (if you have that little triangle lookin thing on your reel) and have your rods disassembled (if its a 2/3 piece rod). I mean it sucks just a little but you can do that. I myself carry two (one for now because my 6 foot medium rod got ran over today). And i have my 7 foot medium heavy rod, all spinning outfits. They work just fine for worming and the 7 foot doubles as the cat rig set up for night. Whatever floats your boat
  8. ah! thanks man!
  9. Well, im using a Medium Action 7foot 3in rod with 12 pound flouro. It's anywhere. Even at a lake with really shallow water i was just throwin it out and practicing at it while the girlfriend was catching all the fish . i let it sit there and something just pulls at it. I dont know maybe it is a fish. Im constantly watching my line. I dont know, it might be current.
  10. What's up guys! Hope everyone's makin out this season and brigin in some nice fish. I've been doing ok. I don't have a boat and the lake I fish mainly is restricted to shore fishing only. I've brought some nice sized fish but no lunkers. For all I know maybe that's all the bigger they get. I've caught 2 definatly over 12inches long in the past weeks. All caught in dense shallow cover with various lures. Anywhere from wacky rigged tiki stiks/senkos/dingers to weightless/weighted/stand up jig head power worms all in dark colors. Why stray from a good thing? Well, doesn't at some point a fisherman wants that BIG fish. Well.......I DO! Now this isnt the only lake I fish. This main lake I fish is for the most part shallow but there's a deep part to it that no one seems to know where it is but that's a different story. The lake is small enough (But large enough to get you winded when walked from one side to the other) that I can take the time to find that spot. Seeing that its been in the high 80's and rising, I figure that "lunker" if there at all is in deep water. So I invest in some jigs and some hand poured craw chunks and some pork trailers to try my hand at the jig and pig. I understand how to fish it in deep water. I use the heavier type jigs because there is a lot of vegetation on the bottom, so much that the sportsman club stocks the lake with grass carp. Throw it out, let it sink (and I think i've found that deep spot) and SLOWLY sweep the rod to the left or right. Problem is with the big jig (not even that big, I think it's a little less than half an ounce) it feels like that is constant pressure on the line, so much constant pressure, i leave my rod still and the rod starts to bend. It just feels like something is pulling on the jig. Is that normal? I mean, i set the hook but there's no fish on the other end and the pressure lets up. Then not even seconds later after i have it settle the pressure comes back on. Any tips or suggestions? I'm new to the jig and pig method so don't attack me too much lol. Thanks in advance for any help.
  11. ha, just this afternoon. Went to grab a bluegill off the crank we were using, went to get a hold of him and he shook that crank loose right into my pointer finger. Whole hook, Barb and all. It f***ing hurt, took a while to get it out. Had to whip out my leatherman and just yank it out. Im sure the whole lake heard my scream. it's swollen now so im sure its infected. Im keeping it covered with neosporin on it.
  12. thanks for the comments guys!
  13. it was fat so i dont know. i pulled it out of the water and was surprised myself how heavy it was. it was in the 5 pound range, it was a fat fish.
  14. thankx guys! I'm gonna try to go out this weekend again with my woman, hopefully we'll do just as good. I wanna catch that monster myself! Thanks again guys!
  15. Had a great weekend up at my girlfriends campsite and of course we went fishing both saturday and sunday. Didn't do bad at all. I'm hooked (no pun intended) on bass. The only fishing ive done is catfish, just sit and wait game. I love bass fishing :-) First Catch, Second Catch AND THEN! My girlfriend caught this one on Sunday. We measured him 13 inches and i guestimated 5-8 lbs.(i can do that, i work @ UPS ;-) ) We caught about 10 little 3 inch baby's in between, they were hittin' all day and hittin strong. Wacky rig senko is the way to go. She was using a powerworm. Tight lines! ~Ben
  16. thanks guys! went out today on the lake and it was just too cold, way too cold. This northeast weather is just plain crap. 45 degree weather and downpours. Now its 37 and its a really wet snow. How in the world am i supposed to catch a fish in this? lol. and the weather ain't lookin too great in the next week. OH well, keep the fishing up guys and good luck! ben
  17. Hey Roadwarrior! Thanks! :-) So a tap tap on the line i see........ill have to try it out. It's a nice sunny day to go to the lake, i have my senko's on order (The wal mart up here didn't have them in stock, they had a pinkish color in stock, yuck) so i ordered from cabelas. I have a crap load of plastics. Thanks for the help guys! oh and my rod! Before the season started I went out and bought a 7 footer medium action rod and left my old rod and baitcaster for the cats. I don't like using a baitcaster for anything else BUT cats. I use huge chunks of liver and it's easier for me to use the baitcaster. But don't get me wrong i LOVE my spinning reel :-) thanks again guys! ben
  18. thanks guys! really! the advice is great. still cold and there's about an inch of rain coming my way tonight so i'm gonna have to wait to get out on the lake. you know, bassassinator is right. I know the basics and all, im just used to the big channel cats i catch at night. Watching the line, never knew anything about that until now. I have no clue how to tell if a bass hits or not. i think THAT may be my problem. hmmmmm......
  19. ah! I forgot to ask! T-Rig.........means texas rig right?
  20. aw man thanks for the advice! I will surely try that when the weather lets up! Seriously man, thanks! Everyone thanks. You guys are a big help! haha, i sent you a PM roadwarrior just as you replied to my post lol thanks again guys ben
