What do you buy more often, new or used reels?
Anymore I buy used but not afraid to buy new if something i have to have i got 54 reels. probably Curado is lowest grade. I only buy quality models in my mind. i consider strength of frame and gearing support and bearings and if not scratched I figured not abused. usually return policy on ebay so i go for it. i research reels, often on tackle tour they not let me down on reviews. im impressed my old Curado 200 E’s almost bring what I paid new thats when they made in japan Another example i bet my BB1 Lews reels out live me even better New Bantam by shimano are bullit proof. Slight heavier than my other reels. But its a 5:5:1 for big cranking plugs doubt I wear it out Bought it used In box Japan model not a scratch.

Am i the minority when it comes to reels?
I am alot like you now 4 major brands only Lews Shimano Diawa and Abu wont buy more abu though long story But lowest grade shimano i buy is curado. out of 54 reels i bet 20 maybe more bought used from japan. if buy good reels they outlive you. some folks have to have the latest. example so say my metaniums Or Zillions. I buy em few years old. i have few theories say if guy on ebay selling reel from michigan if good good pictures and not see scratch on it chances are little use considering they under ice long time and if no scratches the guy not abuse it therfore get high end reel cheap. other way i buy is from japan The guy i buy from in japan does amazing camera work. If no scratches probably not abused. This is how i save. i pretty much do same with cell phones but dont buy used i just stay year or two back. I work with people that live paycheck to paycheck but always latest iphone i like nicer fishing gear but i wait for it because dont want say a Slx not holding up to frogging in slop. some most things i look for is strong frames on reels. Good bearing and gear support. Because if know how to cast and maintain reels wont have to buy another SLX i should not pick on shimano slx great price point reel that gets better every year. But i use it for example because only time will tell all have to do is read schematics on reels can see which is better

Am i the minority when it comes to reels?
I have 54 reels only in these brands Lews, Shimano , Diawa Abu. Only 2 Abu and premiere models cant cast em for darn. But pretty reels. anyhow keep in mind now a day your paying for longevity or lightness. Im not saying you will have issues with SLX. And they keep improving them. but I offer one example scorpions built better for long haul. a kid had a slx with that electronic anti backlash i forget name of it. while i was picking out his backlash I let him use my scorpion with gen 5 ir what ever called electronic brakes( man can recall name). I noticed he had previous models electronic brake and no feature to set line. To mono. Braid or floro. in other words although not same reel as your slx. You pay for features and or longevity or lightness. would not surprise me if your slx outcast some my diawas. My lowest or oldest diawas are CT Type R’s and Sols And another point Zillion is the test rat for the Steez. Look it up, Zillion gets latest goodies before the Steez. lastly not all upgrades upgrade casting distance. Some times hinders it but gets newbies to cast bait casters in my opinion. Or upgrade might be lighter. i learned along time ago. No more cheap reels for me cheapest i go in shimano is curado/scorpion Diawa is CT or Zillion lews Cheapest is BB1 my take

I was done with Lews…
Too be fair i dont think that is considered a lews high end. if i am correct its that non backlash model. Often you lose casting distance on reels like that. Its a trade off. I think paying for that technology. Cool concept I have lots reels. Diawa, Shimano, Lews, Abu. What i like about my Lews is they have features. Line Dial, Spool Knob Clicker Drag clicker, Bait Keeper, MCS (multi cast control system). Nice handles and knobs. Disappointed lately with Diawa and going small knobs.

Multi-Stop Anti-Reverse And Zero Anti-Reverse?
I have many Lews Reels but only 4 BB1’s and I’m so upset only 1 has the multi-stop. David Fritts is such a hero to me that my response will be biased. However my answer is nothing more than a paraphrase of what he has said on numerous Podcasts, BassuTV, Tournament interviews etc. David says that the most important thing along with long cast, bait color, 10lbs Diameter line and 21 inches per turn is truly to feel your bait, especially crankbaits, and any winding bait. Multi-stop he claims brings back the feel to your bait. Multi-stop he also claims can easily get you 10 more yards on your cast. Any model BB1 casts far, but my multi-stop one out throws my other BB1’s. Back to the feel, David has had people in his boat and had them throw the same crankbait on their reel then his. the moment you start reeling you can feel what your bait is doing with multi-stop. David Fritts has stated many times the one thing in Bass Fishing you CANT Teach is feel. He also says he often can feel the bass do the sucking if his bait in well before feel it in rod. He is right i feel it as well. Also one huge high percentage time to catch a bass is the moment your bait turns. The bait turn (if understand geometry) is the moment, your bait can no longer sustain the operating depth it was designed to reach because as your winding the bait gets closer to you. And your rod angle(even if pointed at water). The bait has to come up. If pause at the moment your bait “turns” he says to briefly pause, and any followers run into bait, or blast it. With multi-stop you can feel the bait turn. What caused me to wind up here is ( forgot i had a membership here) I just read a review on tackle tour about some BB1 reels I have. They claim that lews made BB1 in either model, infinite anti reverse and multistop on the model that has the big gold badging. As long as your model has a Z in it. Well i was ready to contact Fritts about this because both of mine have Z but no multistop. Maybe tackke tour has it wrong. Seems only way to contact David would be instagram and i hate them spyware type sites lol. Also been searching ebay for more BB1 reels but with multistop. Put it this way if i could buy the parts to make them multi-stop I would do it. Assuming Tackle Tour is correct that the models with large gold badge can be either with or without. Actually no back play at all is called infinite ant reverse. But that assuming they sticking to same naming convention. Id say any reel today is that way. Even new Lews BB1. Think for Bass reels Lews was last hold out on Multistop but i think discontinuing that multi stop.

This thing is insane...!
Last counted i have 53 reels, least half i purchased used. In normal use on high end reel they tend to lasts lifetime with proper care. I fully understand your situation on money. Im mearly suggesting dont be afraid to buy good reel used say on ebay. Best example i can recall is, a kid at boatramp was having trouble with his brand new shimano slx dc. He purchased it with understanding a dc reel wont backlash. while i was digging out his back lash i let him use my scorpion dc in same frame as his. Mine had the better electronics and line adjuster braid mono floro. He was blown away. Turns out i paid half what he did. He never back lashed mine. second point. when wanting to learn bait casters. I kept at it always buying cheap reels. Ea year step up price still not happy. then when purchased high end reel used it was game on. Never again will i try to budget with cheap reels, just buy good one used or new and be done. Eventually that cheap reel will let you down in my opinion.

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Well guess count me out, I feel I have perfected crankbait fishing. Pretty much used it specifically for last three years spring summer fall and winter. Im actually amazed its still working. Todays mission was testing it with braid. Jury still out. Scared to throw hard and get it bound up. There has to be good braid for power casting. I was using suffix 832…not impressed. David Fritts was right you can feel everything with braid. But at $30 a pop im tired trying braids to try find one i can throw without birds nest. They seem to come out but dont think my rod likes the last minute zipp when it happens.

Show off your Stuff
Its my understanding that reel is about same as the usa diawa Sol. I have two Sol bait casters. They were super expensive back in the day. I love talking about these reels. In my opinion it was a reel way ahead of its time. There are better ones today. Any how it seems to me alot of the technology or engineering set the stage if todays reels. Soon as I purchased mine i tried to use it and failed with bird nests. Never could figure it out. Put reel away for years. Then i read a review from tackletour. Then i learned reel basically designed for thin line. I opened mybtime capsul. I paired it with a whippy rod now i love this reel for small cranks and square bills. So purchased my second one off ebay this time. if im correct your pixie is same as sol, if you ever do upgrades please share where and what part #s enjoy and thanks

Metro PHX, SRP Canals and City Park Lakes
I would love to know what canals produce bass. I have had my eye on one with some nice S curves that might attract fish because of the non straight nothing canal normally seen. peoria az area

Can I Use Braid For Crankbaits??
All you have to do is search David Fritts arguable the best crankbait fisherman ever. He designed many baits wenuse today. Such as Rapala DT series. Rapala calls it Dives Too. But it stands for David T Fritts. He now works for Berkley, making some if the best baits. Now keep in mind he was a pioneer of sorts of cranking. Todays kids learn so fast yeah some folks now beat fritts on tourney trail, but Fritts was dominant when this technique was a mystery. He will never throw florocarbon for cranks. If you podcast he is on many shows giving all the juice and always praises braid.

Help me Decide Between Dobyns and Powell Rod
Out of your choices I owned a Duckett waiting on warranty. Its ok, own powell endurance and love them, never heard of the diesel. Dobyns I ran from because all places i go shopping say its most returned rod. Dunno if true but after holding powell i never looked back. I own many other brands too.
