Couldn't agree more, I used to tie my own jigs and have caught some good fish on them. It's a GREAT feeling!

Easy, Spook. Punching, Frogging, Jigs and Ripping are close behind, but a spook is just too much fun.

You can, but I much prefer the 734 for jigs. That's not to say the 735 wouldn't work for it.. It definitely will work to throw 1/2oz and 3/4oz jigs by all means. If you want a dedicated jig rod, I'd go 734, but if you're only throwing jigs a 20% of the time on the rod and getting the rod for something you use far more, then yes it will work.

Casting distance, steering fish around sides of the boat, moving more line on the hook set for better hook penetration.

I get mine hand poured from a buddy, but when all else fails and I need something off the shelf of a tackle store, it's hard to beat a Reaction Innovations Beaver!

So your Legend Tournament broke? I'm confused, sorry. That is one instance, and neither of those rods do I have much experience with. There's many variables that can go into it. My point was just this, people do not pay $500 for a rod that only has nicer variables than a $150 rod. Sensitivity is one of the major things you gain when you shell out the big bucks. You may have had a bad experience, and that sucks, but don't let it sour you from trying another high end rod, you just might be pleasantly surprised!

Not sure where you get your information from, but it's simply not true. Part of what contributes to that rod being better "quality" is the sensitivity. The components (ie guides, wrapping, cork, reel seat) are not what boosts a rods price from $150 to $500. Certainly nicer components raise the price, but sensitivity from higher quality blanks is a major factor.

Definitely the better route, but in the mean time until you're able to purchase one, it's worth a shot. Or get them just to keep the Mojo rod as a backup spinnerbait rod or something. Never know when you'll want to have an extra bait tied on.

That's the thing so many people mistake when they hear about a rods "weight". They go for the "lightest" rod. I'd take a rod 2oz heavier if it balances perfectly with my reels! You should honestly try those butt weights from bass pro if you like that rod that much... I'd imagine for a swim jig it's even more of a pain, especially if you fish it with the rod tip high like I do!

They sell them at Bass Pro Shop... It works, but it's not nearly as nice as having a well balanced rod to start. Dobyns Rods were built with rod balance specifically in mind. It makes a rod feel lighter, even if in reality it's slightly heavier than a comparable rod that's not balanced well. Tip heavy rods can be light, but if they're tip heavy, they are a pain in the ***!

The best jig? The one you have the most confidence in! There's not one jig that is so far above the rest. The company I picked to use drew me to them because they use great hooks, they don't paint their line tie so it doesn't fray the line, and I have great confidence in the colors they make. I used to tie my own, but for lakes I found myself wanting more options. I started using California Reservoir Lures. Be careful though, they're addicting cause there's so many good looking colors.

Dobyns 733C, but if you end up wanting to fish jigs, or 1/2oz spinnerbaits, or even buzzbaits, spooks, t-rig, carolina rig, etc.... The 734 might be a better choice.. Just depends how you like to fish,they're very similar rods, but I personally like a bit more power so the 734 works better as an all around rod for me.

Jeez. So strange cause I've never ever had any issues with any other line, I even didn't mind Vanish and people hated it. I broke off so many times with fluoroclear it drove me nuts. This was many years ago, maybe bad batch or older line, who knows, but it stunk for me. Glad to hear others dont' have such bad things to say about it.

I'd "rather" catch a few big ones, but that's easier said than done. Not always a guarantee, and sometimes catching a bunch of small ones when the bite is tough is still fun.

Buy the Dobyns Savvy Series 703C rod that is being sold in the flea market for only $90, and pair it with a Abu Garcia Revo S! That'll be right about your $200 range and a killer set up to last you for years.

ML rod if you're going below 1/8oz Longer rod the better for frogs, jigs, etc... That MH might be a little light to throw frogs on, but should work great with everything else listed. Hope you got what you wanted.

Better is very subjective... They are better when using certain baits and techniques. There's a time and place for both spinning and baitcasting. There will be a large variety of suggested reels. Abu Garcia, Daiwa, Shimano, Lews, and many others. They are all good, all have their pros and cons, and all fit differently in your hand. If you're near a tackle shop, put a few on a rod in the shop and see which feels best. Don't skimp though on a reel, especially when learning. Many times people will purchase a cheap cheap baitcaster thinking once they get the hang of it they will upgrade... The better the reel, the easier it is to cast and to learn, you'll experience less frustration and backlashes.

You have the high speed reel, you have the perfect braid, I'm not too familiar with the rod.. Is it stout and stiff? Flipping sticks come in a vast array of actions and powers (some are far stiffer than others with same "ratings"). Are you setting the hook hard enough? Let all hell break loose when you set that hook! What brand of frog are you fishing? Some have far stiffer bodies than others, thus not decompressing enough for a good solid hook penetration. *This is the only real issue I can think of* Something's wrong, because I use a stiff 7'6 rod, same braid, high speed reel, and I don't know if I can remember ever a time that I lost a fish on a frog that was hooked after getting her close to the boat... Once you hook them, they're usually hooked GOOD.

The Dobyns 805 RM is specifically designed for DD22, 6xds, and all other DEEP diving crankbaits. The 8ft length allows longggg casts which you need to get the bait to maximum depth, and it's got the power to still get the hooks in there when the fish are that deep. It's an awesome rod!

The issue with the extra spool becomes.. What about when you decide you want 15lb fluoro? Or 25lb fluoro? That is if you ever do come across that situation...

I don't do the leader to braid deal much anymore.. I used to do it exclusively but now I have quite an arsenal of reels. I did the braid to leader for a year or so exclusively though, and found this to be the best way to figure out leader length (it will be determined by the length of your rod). I like the bait to come down to reel and the knot be about 3 inches from going into tip guide.
