  1. I caught 4 or 5 1-2lbers but hooked in to some good quality bass. First half hour I was there, I swear I was fighting a nice 7-8lb bass, and poof, line just snapped. I had 8lb line shouldn't have done that! After another 20-30min I hooked either the same one, or another of very close size, my first hula grub fish, but once again, after I got it within 4 ft of me, he got loose. Some may call that a crappy day, but to me, it's the most action I've seen this spring or ever for that matter! I did take pictures of 2 of the bass, one was a pretty large size, not sure how much it weighed, any guesses? I'm not good at guessing weight :-/ Then this once, smaller, but still a decent fight. Hula Grub fish! Pictures suck cause they're on my cellphone and I was the only one there. But I tired =) They were biting on a much quicker retrieve then usual for plastics, twas a fun day!
  2. I've never caught much on jigs =\ Probably just don't give it enough time to work, but I always go to what I feel best with, and that's a Trig plastic worm. So I figured this would be in between (sorta). Maybe I'll go rent a Jig fishing video and use the Hula with a jig.
  3. What size Hula Grub do you use, and what oz jig? That sounds like a good idea. Do you ever fish just the Hula Grub?
  4. I've been using plastic craws, jigs with craw trail, and other things.. I just learned about the Hula Grubs and saw some guy fishing one today and it looked great.. Anyone use them ? If so , when? Water Condition, Deep or Shallow, cold warm water? Color wise what do you go with ? I'm leaning toward the same colors as my Senkos ..
  5. I've been bass fishing, and I heard crappie taste amazing, and sense they're usually in the same ponds/lakes, I figured maybe i'd take a break from bass fishing during each day, and fish for some food =) What works best? What lakes in Northern Cali? How do you find them / where do they hide? I will be fishing from shore... So keep that in mind. Thanks guys!
  6. Gorgeous fish. I need to go to the delta sometime soon! Congrats. Guess you love the swimbaits now huh?
  7. Hey, I was thinking about possibly getting my first boat. I'm only 19, I don't need anything great or impressive, just something that will take me places I can't go on foot. I see those Zodiac boats the inflatable ones going for a decent price, but do those pop often or get holes? Can you even stand in them? Is it unrealistic to find a good running boat for under $5,000?
  8. So I went to Berryessa today thanks to mudcatwilly. Landed 5 so-so fish. Second I got there, I hooked one nice one, that snapped my line (stupidly using 4lb line). Very next cast (I let my gf real it in, she caught a nice 2lbr.). Then the next 4 fish were only so so. Here's pics of the last 2 fish caught (Didn't have the camera for the others). Thank you mudcat, everything you said was great help!
  9. Hey guys, thank you very much. I'm going to order some from *** and try them out! 50 for $8 sounds pretty good!!! I appreciate all the help. I'm going to get a few of the same color as the Senkos I have, and see which truly work better. I'll post back with my findings
  10. Thanks. The 5.6lb was caught off a Banjo Minnow. :
  11. Being flat broke doesn't make it easy to experiment. :-/
  12. So on ebay and all that, they have the imitation Senko's that look identical and 50 in a pack for practically the same price as a pack with what 8 or 10? I'm new to using plastic worms, and especially these, but I used some Gary Yamamoto Senkos today and they worked quite nicely. My main question is.. Is it worth paying the extra bucks for the real ones, or are the imitations just as good. Anyone know special sites that sell good ones for good prices? Thanks!
  13. I live in Cali, and unfortunately I put the fishing down for the winter, but went out today just for a bit of fun. Nothing too great, I caught 5, 3 dinky ones, one 13in (weight not sure), and then this one, (weight not sure). Caught the biggest one in the first 5 minutes of fishing. After that sun disappeared and it got COLD. The bass below is the last day I went fishing in October. That was weighed and was 5.6lb Twas fun for being on the water first time in months.
  14. I've found great success with using the banjo minnow while bass are feeding on shad. I throw a little 3in or even sometimes 4in minnow in there, and just play with it. I caught easily 30-40 LMB in 2 consecutive days with it, only 10-14 inchers though. Only had one real nice fish caught with it during the same time, which was a 6lb.
