Thanks Fishlegs .

What weather service do you use?
www.wunderground.com and www.weather.com at home for hourly forecast . Once I'm on the water , it's pretty much a wet your finger and hold it up in the air kind of thing .

First Smallmouth
Yep. Gotta love their attitude . Sorta like some MTSU players

Greetings from Tennessee!
Welcome to the forum . I grew up about an hour South of Chick but have never fished there . What a wonderful place for your 3 year old to go for his first fishing trip !

First Smallmouth
Thank you . I also have strong memories of fishing down your way . My PB came from the St. Johns .

Thanks . You wouldn't think such a young fish could build such a memory for such an old man Thanks Skunkmaster Thanks . Yes I did . I've always been told I would not land my first smallmouth . She put up quiet an argument and I got lucky

First Smallmouth
Wanted to send a heartfelt thank you to the many folks here who have helped me achieve a goal . I understand that this is literally and figurartively no big deal to the folks who post here but , for this old man , it means a great deal . Thank you . Hit a 07 gold original floating Rapala in 4-6 feet of 59 degree water just inside a rocky point . Didn't weigh or measure as did not want to keep it out of the water any longer than needed .

Good glasses for small heads
I looked at the links mentioned above and all of the frames - even the small or slim ones - have a distance between the centers of the lenses of 78 - 79 mm . This may take into account any wrap around / curved shape which would help with the appearance but still seems sort of wide ?? You might want to go by some place that sells glasses and try on some to find a pair that fits you . Don't buy them but look somewhere on the inside of the front of the frame and there will be two numbers generally separated by a square box . Remember those numbers and try to find a pair of sunglasses with numbers which are close . ( The first larger number is the width of the lens - the second smaller number is the width between the lenses . )

Oh no! I went and tried on Bajio Sunglasses.
Checked out the Bajio site . I didn't spend a lot of time searching the site but didn't see any info about their lenses being polarized . But , considering how they are marketed , I would be amazed if they were not polarized . With non Rx sunglasses , it's pretty much what ever cranks your tractor but I would suggest staying with a grey lens . Also , the polycarbonate lenses will be much lighter and more comfortable but will scratch more readily . The glass lenses will not scratch but will be heavy and raise questions of comfort with prolonged wear and be more prone to slipping down which can be annoying at just the wrong time . For the price point , you can get grey polarized ophthalmic quality lenses with a scratch coating at one of the big box stores like Sam's or Costco in a frame that's adjusted to fit . Oh , I have no association with any retail outlet - just a little experience with the optical business .

Many thanks TnRiver46. I've never thrown a tube ( there's a great many baits that I could say the same about) but will definitely give them a try. Sorry about the Vols-Michigan game but the lady Vols are still truckin'

Thanks RW. From everything I can read, Pickwick is a much better fishery but I've sort of set a goal to try and learn Tims first . Many thanks Dwight. Good to know about pre spawn temps. Understood about putting in the time.

My apologies
Tried to post from my phone for the first time and screwed up the title. Mia Culp sorry.

Still trying to learn how to catch my first smallmouth. After reading what A-Jay has put together here, it sounds like an entirely different ball game from the LMB fishing I'm used to. Is it true that - with occasional exceptions - I should concentrate on 10 to 20 foot deep structure and less on the shallower bank cover ? I understand this is dependent on a bunch of factors and time on the water is the best teacher but would it be a good jumping off point for me to start learning from

First Time Back
I was born and raised on Guntersville lake. With all the negative comments you hear about it being over fished , I still think it's one of the best around . I simply want to try to learn how to do it on a different type of fishery. I may get totally whupped and fall back to the river

First Time Back
Thanks TnRiver46. Tried a bit of all of these yesterday with Ned rig, underspin paddle tail, and mojo rig. I definitely have a feeling that it isn't the fishery but it's the fisher that brought on the big ole goose egg yesterday Thanks Chris. Water temp at Tims yesterday was 55-56 degrees and the lake is within 4 feet of full pool. You bet I'll keep fishing. What's the old story of the boy digging in the deep pile of droppings because he was sure there must be a pony somewhere under all of that

First Time Back
I'm almost feeling a little sorry for the rest of yall ... almost. It's nice to see the pics and read about all the good catches but , for me , today was almost more special . It's not very often that I get to build a memory like I did today . My first time back for a serious day of fishing in 45 years ! Clear blue skies and winds around 4-5 mph . Brisk air temperature just enough to get you to shed that outer layer pretty quick . Brand new lake with what must be infinite possibilities . I hope yall get to build a memory as strong as the one that came my way today . Sure , I got skunked , but that just leaves something to build on . ( Now , if anyone wants to share some tips on Tims Ford Lake , it won't hurt my feelings at all. )

Hollow Body Swimbaits
I hope so too Will be interesting to try. If you suggest them, that's good enough for me.

Hollow Body Swimbaits
Thanks Tom. I had assumed a "hollow body" would float depending on the cavity size . But, then I stopped by Scottsboro Tackle (who definitely make hollow body baits and carry Basstrix) and the gentleman looked at me like I was crazy when I said I was looking for a small swimbait that would float . Made me wonder if my assumption was wrong . Thanks again .

Hollow Body Swimbaits
I wasn't trying to find a particular brand , just the hollow body type in general . Thanks.

Hollow Body Swimbaits
Every now and then you'll see one of these questions and have to scratch your head and think "how could he not know that" (or some less polite thought). Do hollow body swim baits float ? The name would suggest they do but I've never tried one and all my searches have never come up with a statement that they actually do or do not float. I know the Zman baits and some Strike Kings will float and would work for what I want to try but I'm curious about the hollow bodies. Thanks.
