  1. I'm new to rod building as this will be my first. Hopefully someone here can guide me to find the lightest components available to build a rod that will serve many purposes. Casting and vertical jigging for walleye, Ned rigs, light Shakey heads, and finesse swimbait. I'll run a vanford with 6-10lb fluoro. This rod will never see anything north of 3/8 oz combined weight of trailer and jig head. 7' ML is what I'm shooting for. How light can something like this be made? Once I acquire all of the components I'll be back for guidance on my build. I'm confident in my ability, but I know some of you guys have some tricks and stuff that will allow me to really build something special. Price is not really a factor considering the price of buying something on this level assembled will cost
  2. Thank you for all of the welcomes guys!
  3. Matt Allen sure speaks highly of that blood craw color for prespawn bruisers. I've never caught a fish on a red bait. ?
  4. I've been to bass resource for information off and on for several years and recently decided to join. I'm primarily a kayak fisherman, I love fishing from a boat as well, or from shore. Anytime I have a rod in my hand I'm a happy camper. I'm really looking for fishing buddies to kayak fish with or tag along in your boat. Always happy to put gas money down (since it's stupid expensive) and or assist any way I can to carry my weight. I'm living in Milwaukee but travel often to new water. Let's link up and rip some lips.
  5. Finesse jigs, blade baits, lipless cranks, SPINNERBAITS, frogs, megabass spark shad, swim jigs, shakey head, brush hogs etc etc etc. Essentially you're (like others have mentioned) going to buy everything anyway. Just tackle alone without rods and reels I've probably got 5k invested (and counting) lol no judgement here. Let the tackle monkey get his way. You'll never be without what they're biting. You're ability to let them tell you what they want will determine if you're using the one they want. " Give a man a fish, he eats for a night. Teach a man to fish, he will be forever broke"
  6. Ooouuuuu that wallet is definitely hurting!!! How much lighter is the xbites? I'm looking hard into getting one of those too
  7. No, I'm saying the hold the grease had has loosened up. Using it did the trick
  8. Here's my .02 I own a curado k. It was my first casting reel since a black max I bought when I was 11which I quickly put down in favor of my more comfortable ugly stick and Mitchel spinning reel because I backlashed it twice. Lol enough history, the curado I learned fairly quickly but my thumb control sucked. I backlashed several times an outing. I kept hearing about how great DC reels were so I bought a curado DC. Wouldn't you know the first bomber cast I tried I blew it up? They are not the end all-be-all. I did, through using it and my Curado k together learn better thumb control. The DC helps. I bought an SLX DC as well somewhere after the curado DC because I got a good price on it. Needless to say, the more I fish, the more I find myself grabbing the curado k. The more I found myself wanting a non DC higher end reel and bought a new metanium. That thing is NEXT LEVEL. If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to chime in again
  9. I ordered a new metanium from Japanlureshop.com. it came within a week. My reel was the same way. Very "sticky" feeling inside. I've found that all of my shimanos really smooth out after a season or two. You could tear it down and soak the bearings in acetone and once they're dry put 1 drop of the bantam oil back in the dry bearing. I've had luck loosening it up with use. This reel is SMOOTH AS SILK.
  10. Overall profile, the wide tail section mimics that of the wider bluegill Instead of a skinny bait fish profile. Makes it look bigger from the side put simply. Lol hope that makes sense
  11. That sounds sketchy but speaks to the stability. Lol thank you I am coming to the realization that I may be putting a trailer behind my Suzuki adventure wagon. Lol
  12. I just browsed and I don't see any love for the 4.5"-6" offerings. Fill the nose with another piece of soft plastic then use a flashy swimmer Or flipping them into brush. A 5"-6" tube is BULKY. sometimes that's the deal. I do fish the stupid tube often, with 3.5"-4.5"'s. Chuck and wind, hop, crawl, all have produced numbers. This tube really gets overlooked. In my opinion it's the most versatile soft plastic in my bag. I can finesse a tube, I can power fish a tube, I can fish it on spinning gear, I can use casting gear, hot weather, cold weather, shallow, deep, structure, open water, it literally does it all.
  13. I got my megabass itch scratched this last month with the braillist AND the DSR in the orochi xx line. Man they're pretttttyyyyy. Both are on the heavier end for the price class but with a metanium b on the DSR and a curado DC on the braillist both rods balance RIGHT AT THE NUT. a properly balanced rod is very comfortable to fish with. ?
  14. I ALMOST ordered the 22 bantam but I found a JDM metanium that I paid 315 for Including shipping. It's much the same reel as the bantam it just went on a serious diet. Couldn't pass it up
  15. I'm looking to upgrade my kayak this year and I'd like something I can stand on, currently I have a pelican sit on top with a chair in it. It sits very low and isn't exactly comfortable for long trips, upgradeable to pedals is a plus, light weight and car toppable is a plus, not breaking the bank is the biggest plus, I realize that to get comfort and stand-ability I'm gonna have to drop around a thousand bottom end.
