Schooling bass
Yeah Steve, I guess they are about half spawned and half not, This is my first spring living down here I am from NC and they spawn all at once there . I guess they are different here, I caught some this evening that were skinny ,and some that looked full of spawn. I think the lake I fish is over populated as well I catch some bass with a head you can fit your fist in and a 3 or 4 pound body. Avid ,they are hitting topwater good here in the evening and after dark, during the day they are hitting a chatterbait good. I was using worms but the bite on them has slowed down it seems. I might try a rattl trap now you mention it. Thanks for the help so far guys

Grass Carp help needed
Burley as far as I can tell they just eat grass/waterweeds . They come right up in the shallows their backs even come out of the water. They have ceratin places they eat , I cast a line out and let it lay their while I'm bass fishing. they wont eat nothing though atleast not stuff you catch regular carp on. They must be sterile I dont see them spawn and they are all between 3 to 4 feet there arent smaller ones so I beleive they are from the original stocking. If I find anything Georgia I will let you know , I have asked in a few other places on the net too. If they were regular carp I could catch them , I sur e would like to find a bait to catch them they have to be 50 or 60 pounds each one is close to 4 feet long.

Schooling bass
Im just south of you George , Im in Vero , Its a clear lake and the water level has dropped probably a foot since Febuary Its been dry here. I just cannot understand the spawn here , I can see 6 to 8 feet deep in the lake . Maybe they are gonna spawn some more . I have yet to see any big females cruising close to the bank at all. I have caught some 5 to 7 pounds in the deeper water . I guess I will see what I can catch this evening.

Schooling bass
Ok I'm hoping that is the case, the bass I have seen schooling look to be males from 1 to 3 pounds, I am just unsure because Im in south FL and from what everyone says the spawn should be over ? This is my first year living here and its puzzling to me . When I was in NC it was obvious when the spawn was happening the beds would be everywhere. Here I have seen a bed in Febuary and a couple more beds about 3 weeks ago and as many bass that are in this lake there should be lots of beds .

Schooling bass
I have a couple questions here, I am fairly far south in FL , I have not seen what I call a true spawn yet on the lake I fish ,just a few random beds, I have been catching bass out in the deeper water like 8 to 12 feet and some up shallow. I have noticed this past week that the bass are schooling in groups of 3 to as many as 8 or 10 in a school and are swimming the banks in shallow water. What does this mean as far as are they spawning or going to be spawning or what? Is this a type of post spawn behavior? They are reluctant to bite a lure or anything as well. There are lots of bass in this lake its 22 acres I have walked all of it every week since Febuary and only seen 3 small beds so far. Is there a chance they havent spawned yet ? the water is warm here in the 70s.

Chatterbaits
I have been catching a lot of bass on a chatterbait, I did however have to add a owner ,trailer hook to increase my hook ups. It seems to work really well on windy days and I have used it in mid day when other lures werent working and had sucess. I caught 6 bass today off one and several bass in the last 2 weeks I have used one, Thats bass in my avatar was caught on one

Good scents to put on baits...?
I had a chance to speak with Tom Mann sr. at an outdoors show years ago about this . he said in all his bait testing that the best fish attractant was cod liver oil. I have used it and it works great

Grass Carp help needed
OK I live here in FL and there are thses giant grass carp in the lake where I fish. I would like to catch one for the fight they are 4 feet long. These are not regular carp . And they are different from the grass carp you see in the rivers . What can I use for bait??? I have tried basics bread ,worms, corn and even heard tomatoe slices work but they dont . Any Ideas? I am not sure the exact species of carp they are ? I think they were stocked in this lake like 15 yrs ago for grass control. I know I have seen grass carp on TV the invasive kind but these are different . Any insight on these would be helpful. Thanks

Any advice for the new guy?
I am a bank fisherman also , I had a hard time at first feeling the bite especially when using a spinnerbait or crankbait. I learned to set the hook everytime I feel the slightest resistance when using either lure. And add a trailer hook if using a spinnerbait. I have been using a chatterbait lately and catching some decent bass. But its warmer here than it is in your area . So that lure might work later in the year for you. If I am not catching fish in a pond I like to use live bait , like shiners minnows or whatever bait is native to your area. I fish them under a bobber or free line them. Good Luck and keep trying
