Fishing Deep, Its Paying Off
Recently I have been trying to stop beating the banks so much and fish some deeper structure. I anchored down on a rocky point this evening and started draggin a jig through the rocks. I had three good bites but only one hook up. I don't know the weight but it was about 20" long. Terrible pic I know. Gear was a Revo S-L with 20lb Invizx on a Lamiglas Excel 7116C flippin stick. Seibert Outdoors Big O jig, custom skirt, Rage Craw in Okechobee Craw, Megastrike. I moved into the creek just before sunset and threw a squarebill for a while up shallow. Had another fish about the same size but lost it at the boat, should have lipped it but I tried boat flippin it and she came unbuttoned. Back out in the morning and try to beat the tournament boys to my spot. I am finding that I get less bites in the deeper water but so far they have been better quality fish!! Thanks for lookin Cliff

I bet it would be fine. As long as you can man handle that thing up there and strap it down good, I bet it works.

Question About Customizing A Pelican Gator Jon Boat
Might check the other Pelican thread in this section, it is about the Bass Raiders but you might get some ideas that could work on that boat.

Favorite bait, weather, and cover
Weather dosen't matter, I love throwing a blade or squarebill into the thickest crap I can find.

Jig Help
The best way is in the water. The best time is anytime. Best trailers are matching or non matching. Seriously though, I like to flip and pitch a jig to wood cover in shallow water. I usually match my trailers to my jig color. I do this year round. Recently I have been fishing them in deeper water just slowly dragging it along the bottom on a rocky point. If you use the forums search function I am sure you will find more info than you care to read. Additionally, there is a TON of great articles in the articles section of this site, and a few videos too. Cliff

Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?
Can't remember if this has been covered in this thread and I am not going to go back and read it all. How many of you stand in your Pelican while fishing? How many of you think it sucks having to bend over a bit to steer? What have you done to fix this problem? I made an extension handle for my motor a couple years ago, but it just wasn't very good, and a pain to remove if I needed to (when two people are fishing). Well I designed a new one this week. I haven't tried it yet but it is the perfect height, much less material was used to make it, and only requires removing one bolt to take it off. Here is a pic, let me know what you think. It is made from a single piece of 1/2 inch electrical conduit. A few precision bends a little rubber tape and a bit of welding. I will let you know how it works out when I get on the water with it. Thanks Cliff

Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?
I always have one of those telescoping paddles in the boat with me. I have never used it, but in the event I do have a problem it is there to get me back to the ramp.

Fishin With My Bro
My brother and his family were here in Texas for a long weekend to visit from Ohio. We had a great four days of fishing. Between the two of us we caught 37 bass, a few crappie and a catfish. No bigguns but we had a few good ones up to three pounds or so. Most of the fish were caught cranking around a main lake point. The bigger fish however, were caught on the same point dragging a Big O jig with a Rage trailer. It was the best weekend I have had fishing on Lake Waco in a couple months, especially for numbers. A special thanks to Big O for some recent tips he gave me on fishing some deeper water, he was spot on. I plan to spend the next couple weekends fishing the same area and picking it apart a bit more. It was pretty rewarding to actually find structure with my graph, mark it with a buoy, drop the anchor and fish it, and catch fish. Opens up a whole new world for me. Don't have any great pics to add to this but thanks for reading!! Cliff P.S. We also enjoyed just hanging out with his and my wife, his daughter and my boys. Having some good food and cold beer!

Need A Quick Tip Or Two.
Thanks for the help guys. We fished a main lake point in 8-12 feet of water and we caught ten bass. Nothing big but all fun. The crankbait was the ticket. Gonna try another similar spot tonight then pick the better of the two to concentrate the rest of our weekend on. Thanks again, I knew I could count on BR for the right answers!!! Cliff

Need A Quick Tip Or Two.
My brother is in town and wants to catch some fish. We only caught one super dink this morning. We worked a rocky bank with topwaters early then cranks and worms later on. Also fished up in one of the creeks and got nothing. Any quick tips are much appreciated. Water temps are in the mid 70's. I am fishing in Central Texas, Lake Waco to be exact. Local guys are reporting good fishing but not too many details. Think I should stick to fishing in the creeks? Main lake points? Thanks!! Cliff

If You Could Only Have One...
Sorry for the confusion, I should have been more clear in my OP. I am looking at a DI unit. I just figured that since it is essentially the same technology only pointed in different directions I would list both. Anyway, thanks for the feedback, I guess I will have to make the decision when it comes time to buy. Cliff

Got A Biggun Tonight!!
I had one a couple years ago that would rival it in weight, but this one could very well be my PB.

That is exactly what I thought. I don't think the average mans mind can function at this guys level.

If You Could Only Have One...
Seems like GPS is winning here. Being lost is not an issue, I am riding in an 8' Pelican Bass Raider. I only fish small areas near the boat ramps, I can't really travel very far. Thanks Cliff
