  1. well as some of you may know, i am new to LMB fihing as of this summer...well i did pretty well i think, thanks to BR!! but now the fall season is approaching and the fishing is starting to not be good anymore....the jig and t-rig was hot for a while...but now it seems nothing is working....i read that this time of year the fish are targeting shad....i have been throwing cranks and traps more often now, but all i can manage is dinks...less than a pound dinks...so....is there something i should be doing to help with the size of fish i am catching? bigger baits, faster? slower? color? location? i am in central texas, from shore, stock tanks on the golf course and private land..water ranges form clear to murky depending on what tank i am at....cover ranges too from weedbeds to laydowns and brush along the shoreline to no cover...or do i just need to keep chunking and winding? thanks Cliff
  2. i read on here somewhere i think, that after each "snap" point your rod tip back at the bait...that creates the slack you need before the next "snap" i wouldnt mind hearing soem tips about walking it "around" objects either Cliff
  3. i used to use the banjo alot years ago...i caught a few smallies on it, no LMB, but let me tell you...the northern pike will hammer that thing all day long.....but make sure you have plenty...between the cheap plastic and a pikes mouthfull f razors, they dont last long Cliff p.s. the only walleye i ever caught in new york state was on a banjo minnow...it was just over 5lbs...also my PB walleye, never did catch one bigger while living in MN
  4. well i am not from TX, but i live here now....and if 10lbs is the standard for lunkers...man o man do i have a ways to go! my PB is 4.1.....me and my bud look forward to catchin something over 2lbs.....that has happened very rarely lately.....i have caught 4-5 in the 3lb range and the 4.1.....99% of the rest of the fish i catch are under a pound to 1.5 lbs.....but....i also only fish two private stock tanks and some golf course tanks....from shore.....my goal for next year is to have a boat and hit some other lakes...and hopefully break the 5lb mark.....so my standards might not be what texas standards are....but if i catch me a 5lber...thats hawg!! Cliff
  5. i have used several cherrywoods and they work well, but i prefer the berkley bionix over the cherrywood...they are 50 bucks at walmart....also...FYI...the cherrywoods do not have real cork handles...they are some kinda foam cork look-a-like material Cliff
  6. what about fishing all day and getting one dink? cuz thats the rut i am in right now....but i think i would choose A for this one Cliff
  7. yes i have played neverwinter nights...i liked it ok, but i think the sacrificed game duration and a good story line for better graphics....i beat very fast and there was nothing left to do....i have played through BG 1 and 2 several times and i always have new stuff to find and do...its different everytime Cliff
  8. my one and only LC bait....Fat BDS-2, American Shad...and my C3's
  9. i play one game online...thats Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries.....i play just about everynight for and hour or so.....i play the original version plus it has three different mods that i play as well....i play the baldur's gate series of games too but not online....they are both oldies but goodies (plus my PC cant handle any of the new stuff) ;D if anyone else here plays Mercs let me know, i will hook you up! Cliff
  10. thats it? ;D
  11. anyone up north ever heard of army worms? apparently they only come around every so many years, i saw them my first year in minnesota.....they were everywhere! i was told by an old timer that once back in the 50's they were so bad they had to use the snowplows to clear them off of roads....he said you would look at the road and it would look like it was moving Cliff

my best crank this year has been a LC Fat BDS-2 in American Shad....i have caught good numbers and this crank account for most of my fish over 2lbs
  13. i always grabbed pike/muskie by the "shoulders" right behind the head but where you will still be holding a "solid" part....i caught a 36 1/2 inch muskie and was still able to "shoulder" it...so smaller pickeral should be no problem Cliff
  14. yesterday i was fishing, i had just changed my bait and made a cast...i felt a ***** on my hand, looked down and it was COVERED with fire ants...i almost threw my rod in the water...well it did go in but the rell and handle landed on solid ground....those little ants HURT...my hand was all bit up...finally got em all off and fished for a while longer...only caught dinks also i am not a big fan of spiders....last week at my workplace, we found a big ol black widow hiding behind some lumber...there was the big female, a small male and three egg sacks hanging from the board...thats a cool looking spider! Cliff
  15. i fish golf course ponds almost exclusively....my buddy's parent are "members" although it is a public course....so when he is there he just grabs a cart and we go....but i have been told i can do the same if i am alone (which i havent done yet)...but like fluke said, just ask them and find out! Cliff
  16. well, i love mustangs too, my favorite car, even tho i have never owned one (i have drove many different models, worked at ford dealer for a while) i currently own a pontiac sunfire and it has been a great car....bought it with 5,000 on it and it is now pushing 40,000 not one single problem so far.....are you looking for a car that you will have for several years? is it your daily driver? i love mustangs but if it was going to be my regular daily to and from car, i would go with the GP, especially with gas prices. Cliff
  17. how bout carpentry work...you get to be inside sometimes and outside sometimes too....i got into it about 3 years ago...went to school for it for one year...worked in it for a year and a half, then moved and was out of it for about 9 months, and now i am back to it and i love it Cliff
  18. thanks guys, i appreciate all the great info! Cliff
  19. well i live in TX now so i can fish year round(which i like) but i was born and raised in upstate NY and also spent 5 years in duluth minnesota....i like the year round fishing thing but there is just something weird about christmas morning and no snow Cliff
  20. thanks dood! i wasnt sure...much appreciated....i wonder why some look so nice with their marking and others you cant hardly see the black line? is this due to where in the water colum they spend most of their time?
  21. hey guys, while i was out fishing today i was admiring the coloring and markings of some of the fish we were catching and i noticed that some of the fish looked just like an ordinary largemouth bass...but others(from the same tank) looked a bit different...they had much prettier markings and i was wondering if they were spotted bass...i have no idea the difference or anything about them other than what i have read/seen on here...here is a pic of what i consider a regular LMB... and here is a couple close ups of the different looking ones...it seems the black marking along the side are much more noticible and defined so if anyone can help me out here that would be great....also....if they are spots...what is considered a big spot? same as a LMB? do they get as big or not? thanks guys Cliff
  22. hit the golf course this morning and again after lunch...we caught a ton of dinks and a few keepers, plus my buddy caught a bunch of nice whites(i think whites) all were over 1lb...we caught fish on spooks, cranks, t-rigged worms and jigs...here is a few pics
  23. thats funny right there!
  24. an old man was sitting on the porch and a young boy walked by with some duct tape.....the old man asked "what ya gonna do with that duct tape boy" "i am gonna catch me some ducks" "boy you cant catch ducks with duct tape" a few hours later the boy returned with a whole bunch of ducks stuck on his duct tape next day same situation but this time the boy has chicken wire... "what ya gonna do with that chicken wire boy" i am gonna catch me some chickens" replys the boy "you cant catch chickens with chicken wire" sure enough, a while later the boy returns with a bunch of chickens stuck in his chicken wire next day the boy comes walking along again with a hand full of pussywillows "hold on son let me get my hat!" screamed the old man ;D
