Would it be worth the effort...
thanks fletchero....i havent come across too many other freshwater fish that fight like a hybrid...they are tons of fun, and so are whites when your catching them every cast....the reason i posted about this is cuz i dont get to fish for LMB from a boat...i am limited to the banks of golf course ponds and stock tanks....so i would like to take advantage of my on boat time for LMB without hindering what the boat owner is fishing for...after all it is his boat and when he says we are moving, you better get your crap together....thanks again...i dont have any of those baits you mentioned...so it looks as tho i may have to go shopping soon Cliff

Would it be worth the effort...
i dont have a map for it, but if you tell me the "local" name of the place my partner will surly know it...he knows that like really good

Would it be worth the effort...
oh he knows all about LMB fishing...his dad was big into it and hes been fishing for a long time...he wont bite, i know this. RW- i know some of the open clean water areas wouldnt be worth it...but a few of our good spots are very brushy, those would be the areas i would try...one area in particular we have caught alot of nice hybrids and he has "accidentally" caught 4-5 LMB over 7lbs each... also he dosent have a bait monkey...he makes his own lures and he gets the lead for free from work, he made the mold, so all he has to buy is hooks and splitrings i think i will give it a go next time out(hopefully this weekend) i will let you know how i do...for my sake, i hope the whites and hybrids AREN'T biting...then i might be able to convince him to put me on some better LMB water!!

jigs...
what is needed to make my own jigs? i am talking tool wise, not really materials. is there a tool to assist in getting the strands in place, and tying/fastening them? any help is much appreciated thanks Cliff
-
Anyone else...
being that i havent been doing this for long, i think i am going to stick to what worked for me last year...cranks, t-rigs, topwaters and jigs....but i do plan to improve my jiggin skills i am also interested in making my own jigs

Would it be worth the effort...
ok i go fishing regularly with my step father in law....on his boat...but he does not fish for LMB...we fish for whites and hybrids.....this is the only time i get on the water in a boat....usually we are fishing in water that is 20-40 feet deep....sometimes clean bottom sometimes brushy....if we dont get bit right off we move....would it be worth my efforts to try to catch LMB in these spots? we do catch one occasionally on "accident". what would you use in water that deep this time of year? i like catching whites, and hybrids especially....but this is my only time to fish this lake, and on a boat, so i would like to try to land a few LMB "on purpose". thanks in advance for any info Cliff P.S. if it helps it is Belton Lake in central texas, right near Fort Hood.

Baitcasters, thumb discipline and backlashes
i got a revo recently and i love it...i knew how to cast a baitcaster before i got it....i used C3's. it took me a good bit of time and two spools worth of line before i got it right...but now i can cast anything in my box a mile and effortlessly...and i DO use my thumb. this weekend there was about 20mph winds blowing in my face....i was casting plenty far enough and without backlash...i give credit to my thumb for that Cliff

Your Dream Trip
anywhere for BIG smallies....for about a month straight. another would be fishing off the coast again, which can now happen more often and for less...my wifes step dad got a boat he can use here and off the coast...this year we plan to catch some tarpon Cliff

decent day
was very windy today, temps about 60 i guess, bright sun. we hit the golf course and they didnt want anything to do with a trap. so i tied on a jig...eakins jig, 5/16, missouri craw in color with a watermelon red baby paca craw trailer. i cast as far as i could straight out into the deepest water i could get to. worked it back really REALLY slow. i caught 5 my buddy caught one. 1-11, 1-4, 1-6, 1-9, and 1-1 were the weight of the decent ones. then the wind died off and so did the fishing. normally we catch tons of dinks and a few decent fishin this spot, today was te opposite. me my buddy

Tell us about your screen name
my dad bought me a beat up old crappy 14 foot row boat for me when i was in highschool....1952 i think...it had a big ol hole and a dent in the side. well he pounded out the dent and patched up the whole, tossed a 7.5 horse merc on it and painted it red....thats when "The Red Torpedo" ( cuz 7.5 horses is almost as fast as a torpedo) ;D was born. then its uber power plant died a couple years later and i went in the army so i sold it. i caught a ton of smallies in that thing Cliff

Reel modding. :)
i only ever hear about diawa's getting mods...is there nothing available for Abu, shimano, quantum? Cliff

1 poll, 2 uses.
i use one rod for ALL my fishing...bass, whites, and hybrids...it is a 6' MH baitcaster, x-fast....i use cranks, jigs, soft plastics, weightless, jerkbaits, topwaters, lipless cranks, spoons, spinnerbaits....everything. i think having a slower rod for cranks and a faster rod for plastics etc etc is more personnel preference than anything. i dont have any problems with ripping out hooks on a crank or getting a fast hookset with a t-rig. just my opinion, it works for me Cliff

Got any pets? Let's see them.
here is me and Delilah, she was rescued here is my wife and Emmy, Emmy we thought was a girl until the first trip to the vet, and the Doc found a "couple" things that told us otherwise, thats why he is a boy cat with a girl name. now we just tell people it is short for emmit ;D he has one blue eye and one green and we got him from a lady giving away kittens for free. and here is Emmy having a nice refreshing drink

- UFC 79 Nemesis this Saturday night
yeah silva took a beating, have to give him credit for that...as far a GSP and hughes....went how i figured it would....actually i thought GSP would knock him out or just ground and pound him or something with strikes until the ref stopped it...but i had him to win all the way, and i predict the same for GSP vs Serra. was some good fights! Cliff- THE OFFICIAL "WHAT DID YOU GET" THREAD!
New revo S, some cool fishing shirts including one that says "bass fisherman have long rods" rod rack for my wall and a few other things- How many reel/rods do you own?
i only have one combo that i use....it is an Alpster custom 6' MH on a shikari blank with a Revo S (used to be a C3 untill a few days ago)...i use it for jigs, topwaters, cranks, t-rigs, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, weightless plastics, shakey heads, etc etc etc. i alos use it for fishing for whites, hybrids, and will be using it for smallies in NY this coming year ;D i have a couple other berkley rods, a couple C3's, and a couple cardinal spinning reels...but since i got that rod from ronnie and the revo, they only catch dust bunnies now..i cant bring myself to use the lower end stuff when i have the bitchin' custom rod/revo combo at my side Cliff Cliff - UFC 79 Nemesis this Saturday night
