Lure choice for ponds
For small ponds my go to is t rig is a plastic worm. I like using a 6” or7.5” with as little weight as possible. Most of my fish come on 1/16th ounce rigs wits 2/0 offset shank hooks. My favorite pond colors are red shad, watermelon, pumpkinseed, motor oil and tequila sunrise

How Willing Are You To Try A New Knot.....??
I’ve been tying the same knot forever. It’s super simple but works perfectly. Never had a line break at the knot

What was or is your favorite baitcating reel?
I’ve always been a round reel guy. I started with Abu 5500c3 which I used for several years. My brother’s girlfriend bought him a Calcutta 200b for his birthday. I tried that and was instantly addicted to the smoothness and build quality. I saved my pennies for a while and went to academy sports. They had a huge selection of Calcutta b’s at the time and I opted for the ct50b which was shimano’s smallest. I loved the way it fit my hand and how solid and smooth it was so I bought one. Used it for many years fishing for everything from largemouth to bull redfish in brackish water. It handled everything I could throw at it but was starting to show its age. I was working as a plant operator at the time with plenty of overtime so I decided to splurge on a new exact ct50b. This reel is phenomenal and I keep it far away from brackish or saltwater. It’s my current reel and is as good as the day I bought it. I plan on keeping it for a long time because it’s an awesome largemouth bass reel imo. Love the variety of reels you guys have owned but I’m one of those if I like I keep it personalities . The reel might be tiny but it’s build quality is excellent and it’s strong as a bull💪

Falcon rods?
What do you guys think of them? I’m currently using my time tested shimano Calcutta ct 50b on a 6’6” falcon lowrider medium-heavy action rod. I mainly fish lightweight soft plastics rigged Texas style. I also have an allstar 6’6”as well as some Daiwa model of the same length. The falcon has Fuji guides, Fuji reelseat and is super balanced. It seems pretty sensitive with a strong back bone. Do you think this rod fits my lure choice and presentation style or is there something affordable that would be better? Thank you

Bank pounding for largemouth with my brother Friday afternoon 😊
Thank you for all the recommendations 😊 I’m assuming something with a single Colorado blade for maximum vibration and a dark skirt for visibility?

Bank pounding for largemouth with my brother Friday afternoon 😊
I’m going with my brother to fish a local neighborhood shallow stained water lake with minimal visible cover except for some dock pilings and tree stumps. We’ll be fishing for large mouth from the bank exclusively. I typically fish with soft plastics Texas rigged pretty much always so I was thinking of throwing either a plastic worm, lizard or crawfish with a light 3/16 ounce bullet weight . There is a cold front rolling through tomorrow but then it clears up nicely (too nicely maybe/ high barometric pressure) Thursday and Friday. I’d like to land at least a couple descent fish and not just practice casting for two hours. What other approaches or methods for success would you guys recommend we try if the soft plastic bite is non- existent? Thanks for any suggestions

When I go to the signature page and tap on the white void where I’m assuming I’m supposed to type it no keyboard pos up so I can’t type anything. The save feature works though?

I can now get to the signature page but on my iPhone 15, which is all I have, it won’t let me type in a signature? Thoughts? Thank you

How do you add a signature to your profile that shows on your posts or replies?

What weight sinker do you most commonly use to Texas Rig?
I like to use a 1/16 ounce pretty much every time. If not the heaviest I fish is 3/16/ ounce

ambidextrous casting?
It took two years of steady practice to achieve casting precisely with my non dominant left arm/hand but I’ve gotten much better at it than I ever was right arm/handed to the point I don’t want to cast right handed and need to waste time switching the rod to the other hand while I should be focusing on what’s going on with the lure instead for better success 😊

ambidextrous casting?
Thanks, I’m like a surgeon casting left handed now and a lot of the strikes I get happen as the lure slowly drops upon landing because i mainly throw lightweight soft plastics. I can set the hook with greater precision which equals less missed fish so I think I’ll stay with my current technique of casting and hook setting with my left arm because I’m so much better now that way than using my dominant arm/hand much appreciated Thanks

Monofilament line question?
Thanks

ambidextrous casting?
I started bass fishing at age 15 casting exclusively right handed then I saw a bill dance outdoors fishing show where he said if you want to catch more fish you need to keep your bait in the water. I decided that makes a lot of common sense so at age 17 I taught myself to cast exclusively let handed and retrieve with the right. Twenty years later I can drop dimes casting left handed but cannot for the life of me cast right handed anymore. Is there any advantage to casting right handed or not because I’ve totally given it up? Do any of you guys cast using your mon dominant arm/hand? It just works for me and I can’t imagine going back and needing to switch the rod to the other hand to retrieve. I love my Shimano Calcutta ct50b bait caster and definitely don’t want any other reel because it fits my hand like a glove and performs perfectly with plenty enough power 💪 thanks all😊

Monofilament line question?
My favorite and workhorse bait casting reel is a shimano ct50b. It’s small reel but plenty of power for largemouth bass. I typically use stren clear/blue ten pound monofilament line on it. The casting performance is really good. The line visibility above the surface is really good and I like that because I typically fish soft plastics in shallow water on banks. What other line options would you all recommend for this rig? I like to use as light as 1/16th ounce weight to allow the lure to fall to the bottom slowly yet still provide excellent casting precision. Thanks all

Fish the bank or site fish specific beds…what do you prefer?
I’m in south Louisiana so the water is probably warmer but I prefer to fish along the bank targeting any form of cover or structure in shallow water I can see using the time tested Texas rigged soft plastic of some sort with an 1/8th or even 1/16th ounce bullet weight. I like to fish slow most always . 90 percent of the large mouth I catch are taken on soft plastics. That lure group in by far my favorite 💪Good luck brother

Baw from Cajun country
Thank you all. I agree there’s no such thing as a stupid question . I had a teacher once that told us to always use KISS philosophy which is keep it simple stupid. Never forget that. one of the few things I remember from high school. lol

The Funniest Thing Youve Ever Seen On The Water Or At The Ramp
My buds dad sunk his boat at the launch because he forgot the hull plug. Same buds brother was fly fishing with us for the first time. He was whippin the fly back and forth then it disappeared. He asked us if we saw it and we told him it’s in your ear lobe. My other bud bought a grand new rapala wooden expensive crank bait. He threw his first cast with it but apparently forgot to tie any knot so the lure sailed over the treetops into the woods never to be found. lol

Baw from Cajun country
I just joined the forum. I’ve been largemouth bass fishing for around 25 years from a youjgster. I mainly fish small shallow lakes/ponds and love beating the banks either from aluminum my bateau or the banks. My go to rig is a Shimano Calcutta ct50b paired with a falcon medium- heavy 6’6” rod using mostly soft plastics. I’m currently fishing a culprit 7.5” red shad worm on 10 pound stren clear/blue line and an 1/8 or even a 1/16 ounce bullet weight rigged traditional Texas style with gold success . This looks like a great resource community to us anglers and will appreciate any advice or wisdom anyone is willing to share when I ask stupid questions ok. lol
