Hi All. Long time lurker, but new poster. I am looking for advice on deciding between these two specific rods. The St. Croix Mojo Bass carbon cranker mjc71mm or the mid carbon cranker mjc71mhm (old versions, not the new trigon rods). I am not interested in any other rods besides those two at this time.
I am no stranger to bass fishing. I have been around the block a lot (grew up on 10 Mile Lake in Oregon). BUT...surprisingly, I have never really spent much time crankbait fishing. I typically do really well fishing spinnerbaits, jigs with a craw, and senkos. I am just looking to try something new. I fish Washington State mostly now, and Oregon waters every now and then. I am looking at expanding to some local lake crankbait fishing, and also Columbia River crankin' for smallies.
I know they tend to get a bad rap here, but I have several mojo bass rods paired with various curado reels and I very very much like them. (68mf, 3 x 7mhmf, 71mf, 76mhmf) I am looking to pick up one of the two carbon crankbait rods, but not having any local to try, I am buying blind. Between the two, which is the more recommended rod for my type of fishing? I am assuming that one of my 7mhmf would suffice nicely for shallow cranks, and that the answer will be to go for the mid carbon cranker, as I also have my 76mhmf that would probably work well for the deep diving cranks. That said I prefer a light rod, and they pretty much all are outside of the 76 I have. But I want to buy the most appropriate rod for cranking in the 3 foot to 15 foot range.
Thanks is advance for your thoughts and knowledge.
