Customs cost ordering reels from japan
Hmmmm. The fishing industry must be very different from the firearms industry. The markup on accessories in firearms industry is pretty high. The firearms themselves not so high in markup.

Customs cost ordering reels from japan
I’m wondering how much you save going JDM? I was looking at spinning reels recently. US had them at like 130. JDM but being sold over in US was like 105-110.

I found Dobyns Champion XP. How are the Dobyns rods? Do they run true to spec on the action? Is a med/ fast a med/ fast or does it run little faster or slower? Does Dobyns make a Champion XP med/ x fast?

Line color. Just a thought.
I saw a guy on YouTube that did a line comparison. He varied the type, color, diameter of lines. Then dropped the lines in differing water clarity and lighting conditions. It was an interesting watch. If I can find it I will post the link here.

Outfished by a kid with a floating Rapala.
Years ago I was fishing a river. I had been there 1.5-2 hours. Nothing. This older guy comes along. He’s all hey how are you guys doing? Catching anything? As he’s talking he gets a fish. He wasn’t there 5 minutes yet. He stuck around maybe 15 minutes and caught 3. I was done after that.

Question for the custom rod makers
It’s like the mad scientist thing. Always tinkering with something. My tinkering with golf clubs started with the old persimmon woods. I refinished them. Then I got into restarting clubs. Then building them. I was always trying things. I’m sure if I got into rod building it would be the same thing. Always messing around with something. A little side note. I wonder how many know G. Loomis made golf shafts way back when. I think he started out in golf before doing fishing rods. If I remember right. I could be wrong that was long ago.

Question for the custom rod makers
Sounds like y’all got into building cause of need of something not made. Maybe one day I’ll try it out. What was the hardest thing to learn about building rods? Did you start building from a kit? Like they sell on MudHole website

I was in Kent. I spent many a day freezing as I was wading in Cowlitz. Beautiful area but that water was COLD.

I have ALF bookmarked. Someone mentioned to check with them. So I bookmarked it. I looked at the Dobyns “ Siri hates me. Keeps trying to say Donna instead of Dobyns” line. Why do you suggest the Sierra over the Fury?

Question for the custom rod makers
Well like for me. When I was young and the earth was still cooling. I got into building and adjusting golf clubs. When I first got into it. I could make knock off clubs way cheaper than buying off the rack clubs. As I got busier it got easier to pick up the phone and order what I needed from the rep.

Question for the custom rod makers
I was wondering. Of your own personal rods. How many did you make yourself? Is it easier to order up a factory rod? Easier meaning to free you up to build rods you are making money building. if that makes sense

What brand are you talking about? I missed that. I am finding Miravel spinning reels “ imported “. What’s the difference if any? Seems to be like 20-30 bucks cheaper.

I’ve checked out the Miravel. I like the look of it and specs are nice. I am thinking of using 4-5” senko pumpkin or watermelon Texas rigged. Braid line 15lb ish. 1/4 oz weight if I get into some cover. I’m still wondering about the rod. I keep seeing recommendations for Tatula. I see there are the XT, bass, and elite. Elite if I can get a good deal on it. Maybe.

How far can you cast a baitcaster?
How far can I cast a bait caster? hmm well considering I’ve never used one. I’d say the length of the rod plus leader. So like 9 feet. On a good day. On a bad day 0 feet but the best d**n bird nest you ever seen in any reel.

Rod repair question
I’m thinking of this two ways. If you want to go the warranty route. I would take it to the shop you bought it from. My other thought is use this as opportunity to upgrade the guides. Sure it’s going to cost some money. You can get the guides you want AND get the wraps you want. If you go this route. You can pick the person doing the work. Depends on if you want to go local or ship it off to get work done. It doesn’t cost to contact some of the rod builders in forums to see what they can do and the cost.

I’m taking all this in. Thanks with yall giving advice on a rig. I’m wondering what the difference is between Tatula and Tatula Elite?

Reel Cleaner
If you’re doing a wipe down of rod and exterior of the reel. Why not use a vinegar and water mixture? You can’t get much cheaper than that for a cleaner

How are the Donna rods? I am referring to the Maverick, Fury, and Colt rods. Dobyns not Donna. Siri doesn’t like me

Okuma rod eyelet repair
The nail polish must be a catch all. I’ve known guys that use it on the ring and bases on rifles. When they didn’t have lock tite.

I have heard good things about St. Croix mojo rods. I have not heard of Evergreen or Megabass. Though that doesn’t mean much. Being a newb to bass fishing. Didn’t Shimano buy out G Loomis awhile ago? I noticed you all are suggesting Med/ fast rods. Why go to Med/ fast? Would heavy/ fast be a good choice or no?

I am located just outside of Nashville. I am going to be fishing from the bank. I have no problem walking rivers. That is where I spent most of my time fishing in Washington.
