  1. I'd rather throw a lure on a baitcaster under an overhang, tight cover, and have more efficient repeated short casts than a spinning reel, so there's that. But if others can manage the same with spinning then it's entirely user experience. For me I enjoy a light rod, a bfs reel and having fun catching 1-3 pounders on light line making it seem like giants. I caught a 5lb on a bfs setup. Pretty amazing what modern rods can handle now.
  2. Hopefully the bite isn't slow for you. Let me know how it goes. Good luck!
  3. I bank fished a reservoir today and noticed a lot of carp in the shallows. I’m wondering if they pushed the bass out because the bite was extremely slow. I usually do well here, but today finding a pattern was a grind, even though I managed to catch a few bass. Has anyone else noticed carp affecting bass behavior or pushing them out of shallow areas? Curious to hear your experiences and what adjustments worked for you.
  4. Congratulations! Pound for pound how do they fight compare to large mouth? Being in Southern California we're limited to bodies of water that carry smallies and it's a few hours drive to locations that do have them. I will definitely making it a trip to catch one this year.
  5. You can get a good enough hook set even with a light rod if you time it right. If you're using a 5" - 6" bait you're most likely going to have to let the fish take a few chomps at it. Feeling the weight of the fish, followed by reeling in the slack and set it. I lose fish with the T-rig when I'm too impatient.
  6. If I had an x-ray machine to see how far up or down the sleeve sat within the reel seat I'd definitely drill it where there's a cavity and fill in with epoxy, so I'm not taking the risk of damaging the blank. Luckily I contacted the Japanese company I purchased from, and they are willing to ship it back at their expense to have Megabass JP look at the reel seat defect. I'm 100% certain I'll be receiving a new rod, but it'll take at least 1-2 months before I hear anything back from them. Removing the winding check was my first choice to get this reel seat fixed, but thankfully the Japanese company honored their services and offered to pay shipping back to Japan to have the rod looked at. Thanks again for the suggestions
  7. The rod is a Megabass Levante and it has an original sprial architect reel seat. I dont know if the reel seat is snug fitted or not and i dont want to compromise the blank if I drill it. From the photos the reel seat is one piece so where exactly should I drill the holes? I was thinking along the center back of the threads. and maybe even the carbon parts. Once the epoxy is injected I can slowly rotate and use gravity to penetrate from the top interior down? If I'm drilling how should I proceed since I'm unsure what the inner workings of this reel seat looks like and if the blank is touching the reel seat. This will be my first time attempting, but was wondering how you guys would tackle this job?
  8. Interesting. I never imagined distance between tip and lure would matter that much, but it does make sense. I'll have to try this weekend. Thanks for the tip!
  9. No I'm using the 2022 version Sliver Wolf
  10. That's the plan. My sloppy technique needs to be refined. I'll need more outings and practice to get it right.
  11. That's about the same lure weights I intend to throw on this reel. I'm using it mainly for bait finesse so ned rigs, free rigs weightless etc. Habits from using the Mag-Z braking system carried over and it this reel made me realize after my first outing that my cast are sloppy(I'm used to just casting it harder). I know with more time on the water with it I'll adjust to it.
  12. Medium Light fast action 1/8thoz - 1/2oz Daiwa Sliver Wolf PE Special 0.8 PE + 8 fluro Soft plastics ranging from 6 grams - 15 grams.
  13. I have my first SV Boost reel. After my first outing I back lashed like there was no tomorrow, and quickly realized it casted completely different than my Mag Z spools. Like others have stated Mag Z for heavier weights, and SV for lighter weights. I'm assuming casting heavier weights with the SV spool requires a smoother accelerated cast instead of a flick? I need more time on the SV system, but any help would be appreciated.
  14. Started fishing last summer, and now it's summer again. I'm not complaining though. I've caught fish in very pressured waters the early mornings.
  15. I got into this hobby at the end of last summer and have been fishing my local pond. Being in Southern California, our body's of waters here are extremely pressured, and despite starting in one of the slowest seasons I have caught quite a few and gained experienced. It's been tough at this pond and doubts filled my mind that maybe there aren't any fish here but Jjst today I caught a PB of 5lb. I'm looking forward to seeing if I can top it, or maybe even catch 3-5 fish here. I'm definitely looking forward finding these fish in the spring.
  16. I started fishing last August - December, caught some bass, learned a lot and gained experience. This will be my first Spring and Summer season here in Southern California. What's fishing like during that time of year, and what lure's or baits do you guys preferring throwing?
  17. I'm just venting out my frustrations and experiences so far. It's tough to find motivation when I'm not getting any bites. I will definitely ask questions in the western forum.
  18. We needed the rain, but how was the bite? I haven't caught anything at my local pond. Also temperatures have dropped significantly probably causing shock to the fish.
  19. I live in Southern California, and started bass fishing mid summer. I'm fairly confident in rigging baits and how to use them, and so far I've caught about 7 bass total. I frequent local ponds near me to practice, and try new things. I occasionally hit up the lakes(haven't checked them all out yet) if my weekends are free, but man I'm just getting skunked most of the time when I'm out. I'm trying all kinds of patterns and retrieves, and talked to friends and family members who also fish and say our waters are highly pressured, but are they? Sometimes I'm fishing for 2hrs and other anglers that show up just catch like no other, and I'm over here thinking what am I doing wrong? I do enjoy being out in the early mornings, and early evenings, but I want that hookset, and buzz of having a fish on the other side of the line but it's just not clicking for me. Is my expectations too high, is it really that tough down here, lack of experience or all three? I'm still new to fishing but it just frustrating, and I guess I'm learning that, that's fishing in general. Also my whole social media feed is nothing but fishing and its distorted my expectations 😆. Anyway feel free to give me some advice, and thanks for listening to my TED talk.
  20. I do alot of pond hopping and this one looks awesome for it.
  21. I found this Plano tackle box at a thrift store selling for $3.99 today. It's in good shape, no cracks or anything and looks vintage. Time to fill up this box 👍🏻.
  22. It never got sent back, and it's limbo at UPS Louisville, KY. But if I were hit with a 50% duty I'd reject the delivery completely. Either way I'm considering this rod a lost, and hopefully JLS pulls through with UPS, but for now the lack of transparency lost faith in JLS and left I'm completely in the dark. I know UPS is checking the origins of aluminum and tons of customers are getting penalized for it, but does still still apply to my fishing rod since it's major of the rod is graphite/carbon fiber? I assume the guide rails are aluminum but it's such a minimal part of the rod I wouldn't think it could cause massive delays and paper work.
  23. UPS requested harmonization codes. I emailed JLS about it a few times, and said they contacted UPS but no detail of what was said so it left me in the dark. I would just stay clear of JDM shops that don't disclose an understanding of tariffs, taxes, or other related information regarding the US customs issue.
  24. Ordering after labor day didn't affect the new policies until a couple weeks later (that's when I ordered). So you were very lucky lol. I just wanted to bring awareness to JLS's so anyone that decides to order from them might experience delays with UPS if proper paper work isn't fill out. I do hope it's not JLS and its UPS's incompetence on the international package backlog issues going on. I did just have another international package pass US customs with no delays being delivered this weekend.
