  1. I've found treble hooks on these baits to have terrible hookup ratios. Zero problems with a big octopus hook. I want to try to Reneau. I've successfully used big EWGs too. Not really sure why some pros went to trebles and caused others to follow. Sometimes I think it's a prank they played on everyone.
  2. With the price and scarcity of genuine Coike baits and groceries, that fish would have given the Coike back and filled my belly.
  3. Any USPS "service" is the very worst thing to select for shipping. Avoid at all costs. UPS is well worth the money, and it's really not that much more considering USPS raising their prices. A few bucks more to get my stuff on time and in the proper condition? Yep, well worth avoiding the headache.

If you suspect you have been bitten by the Lone Star Tick, or you have unpleasant symptoms after eating red mammalian meat (or dairy), skip the regular doctors. Immediately make an appointment with an allergist. I was having delayed allergic reactions (such as the Lone Star Tick causes with red meat) and the regular doctors were useless. I didn't yet know about Alpha Gal Syndrome or the Lone Star Tick, and the doctors never mentioned it. I made an appointment with an allergist and he immediately tested me for Alpha Gal. Thankfully it came back negative and my allergy turned out to be a medication that my body was having delayed reactions to, but the point is that he knew what the regular doctors didn't and took all precautions. Regular doctors are still often very, very ignorant about all forms of illnesses caused by ticks. Not sure what that's about.
  5. Oh I know. I might not have explained the issue well enough or in enough detail. But I know about Doyo reels. I like them, and they have a familiarity to them no matter the brand stamped on the side. For $100, give or take, they're nice. I just wanted to know what the issue with the Aird could be because I knew it wasn't right. It did not behave like any Abu or Lews I've ever had. I wasn't getting anywhere so I just made a swap and went up in the specs a little bit with the Revo - and everything is as usual, as expected.
  6. I always pick up after myself, but I don't often pick up after strangers. I have no idea what was in that garbage or what they did with it. We live in a crazy world, and if I don't have to touch something belonging to someone who already didn't care about anyone or anything around them, then I don't. And I'm certainly not lugging around tools to do this job for free like some sort of prisoner on work duty. Sad that it has to be that way, but with drugs, disease, pranks, and crime, it's not worth it to me.
  7. It breaks my heart to see all the fishable water is bought up and posted and fenced as private.
  8. BFS was becoming popularized when I stopped. I was always interested as a casting reel mainly kind of guy, but it's hard for me to justify the cost when a spinning outfit does the same thing, as intended, for a fraction of the cost. If anyone can enlighten me on how BFS is preferable here, other than enthusiast preference rather than practicality, I'd be happy to hear it. Because I really don't get it. If BFS was as affordable as any other gear I'd certainly opt for it, but I don't get the price at all. One common thing I've seen is baitcasting accuracy, but I've never found that to be true. Just as accurate with both. Controlling the spool with the thumb on casting or controlling the line with your hand on spinning is one and the same to me.
  9. My Revo X arrived. It's wonderful. Drag behaves as it should. The casting performance reminds me of the SLX line of reels I was using before I had to take a few years off, but it has all the familiarity of the Silver and Black Max Abus I learned on. Drag doesn't need to be muscled down to get something out of it. Turned out to be for the best.
  10. I tried everything and it won't give me usable drag unless it's tightened nearly all the way down. I'm going to return it. In the meantime, I ordered a Revo X LP to replace it with.
  11. I always use electrical tape. I'll try to loosen it all the way and see what happens.
  12. I have to tighten the drag to about 4 clicks off max otherwise it peels drag like it was set for small jerkbait trebles. It's completely useless up to this nearly locked down point. To the point where I'm putting some muscle into tightening it nearly all the way down and it's still nowhere near being clamped down (not that I'm the type to lock it down). What could be going on here? This is disappointing.
  13. I've been out of the game for about 3-4 years due to health issues. I sold all my bass fishing stuff. I stopped paying attention to any of it because it caused me depression to not be out there. I'm back at it. I made a humble purchase to get back into the swing of things. An Aird-X MH/F casting rod with the Aird reel (apparently released last year), and an Aird-X M/F spinning rod with a 2500 Laguna. I bought some Senkos, Ned Rig stuff, spinnerbaits, a Vision 110, and Spook. Essentially the baits that were working well for me before I came to an abrupt end. I have seen a number of things I don't even recognize, from gear to baits. Not so much techniques, but I haven't dug very deep. Karashi keeps coming up. It's funny - the sport never changes and yet it changes. What have I missed?
