Koi and bass?
That's what I thought about just a few minutes ago. If the carp have babies then the bass will have something to eat. I was just worried since the bass just spawned maybe the carp would eat the eggs or something. Apparently from what little research I've done that shouldn't be a problem. Plus, it seems the bass have already hatched since I saw some swarms of little fish when I was there today. Thanks Raul.

Koi and bass?
A local pond I like to fish has recently seen the introduction of about 3 koi fish going about 3-7 pounds. Just wondering if I should leave them there or dispatch them? I just don't want them to compete with the bass and ruin the fishery. I plan on getting rid of any babies they have, but is 3 or 4 okay? Thanks

What now?

What now?
So I took a scouting trip to the two ponds on my golfcourse and it seems the bass are starting to bed. They don't seem locked on yet more like they're just getting ready. I also saw a bunch of huge bass just cruising at the surface around the ponds. I threw a tiny spinnerbait a Zara Puppy and a baby brush hog with no hits. Question is: is this normal for this time of year for them to have lockjaw? Any suggestions for getting these fish to bite? Thanks

vee hull conversion?
I'm not sure how much of a 'V' your boat has, but here's a link to the conversion I did to our semi-V hull. http://tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=482

Why is the reel handle on the right hand side?
Some of you may have heard of Lefty Kreh. He is a respected authority on flyfishing. Anyway he holds workshops and one thing he does is have somene who is used to reeling in a spinning reel with their left hand come up and reel in an amount of line with first his left hand and then his right hand on a fly reel. He times him both times and it seems without fail that person will reel faster with his right hand. Why? Because that person is right handed! On a spinning reel the circles you make when reeling in are fairly large and require little to no coordination. However the small circles you make on a fly or baitcasting reel require more much more coordination. That's why a righty will find it easier to reel quickly with a handle on the right side. Hope that helps... Now me personally I don't feel comfortable working a rod with my left hand so I prefer left hand reels. I'd rather use my strong hand to control the rod than a little crank.

What is a good canoe to bass fish from.
Just as an added precation regardless of which canoe you decide to buy you might consider a set of these. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0001464011360a&navCount=2&podId=0001464&parentId=cat601235&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat21276-cat601235&catalogCode=IH&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601235&hasJS=true

First Bass on a brush hog
Nice job! I love the Baby brush hogs. Seem to have more luck with the smaller version.

Going to sound silly, but...
Ah not so. My dad has had a 38" redfish take all the line out so the line was only attached by the knot. The knot held and he ended up landing the fish. It might not be that big of deal when dealing with smaller fish like bass, but you never know... Here's a non-staged picture...

Old boat, new deck. (lotsa pics!) FINISHED!!!
Hey backpain, I might have to turn ours into a tiller if we can't find a short shaft electric start motor. We wanna buy used so it'll be pretty near impossible. No livewell since we don't plan on going to any tourneys. If we do go saltwater and want to keep a few trout or reds then we just throw them in a cooler anyways. Stability was great with the old rotten deck. The new one will probably be better. The front deck is kinda small, but once you get used to it it's not a problem to stand and fish for a couple hours. With the seats installed it will be no problem at all. Later

Trick Worms
I fish them weightless with a 4/0 worm hook. Probably hard to do with a baitcaster though... I throw it out and watch my line for a hit as it sinks. Then I give it little jerks and twitches and work it back to me. Watch it in shallow water and you'll find a retrieve you like. Fish don't seem to picky with them. Sometimes I'll even try to keep them so they're breaking the surface everyonce in a while. They're versatile so experiment.

best UL combo under $50...
I picked up a Shakespeare Agility combo at Soprts Authority for 49.99. It's not an UglyStik so it isn't as whippy. It's worked great so far. Really fun too.

Whippin them with the sissy stick!!! ( PBs!)
Nice fish, but I wanna see a better picture of the 'sissy stick'. Is it a custom build?

New Batch of Cranks
Me likes. Looks like you know how to put the hook hangers in. Is it a full body harness?

Old boat, new deck. (lotsa pics!) FINISHED!!!
Up front we used fence post treatment and some undercoating. In the back I can't remember but it was weatherproofing for fences, siding etc. The pictures of the back were taken before the treatment. We did the two different types for comparison to see which rots first. Seriously though I'm pretty sure it should be fine stored in a garage and only used on bright sunny days. We looked for marine plywood, but the only stuff we could find was so warped it would have been impossible to use. And thanks for the comments guys. I hope to have it finished before the weekend is.

First good Rod
Please keep us posted. Since I fish mostly plastics I'm leaning towards the Shimano Crucial Drop Shot rod as well. Not necassarily for dropshotting, but for the sensitivity for the weightless plastics I use all the time. Thanks!

A Chip Off The Old Block
That's great! Awsome story. Thanks

Lures for Bass That Have Seen EVERYTHING
Grab your UL, some 4lb test, and a package of baby brush hogs. Fish them weightless and remember to watch the line close. If that don't work try going at night or just try and catch the catfish.

Great Forum, I just joined.

Trolling in a Canoe
As wierd as it sounds you might try trolling some sort of plastics. I don't think you'd have the speed to keep a crank going right. You never know though. I've had a fish hit a topwater that was sitting out behind our boat while we were cruising with the TM.
