  1. Yea, definetely not as easy as some make it look. Make sure you have slack in the line as you're twitching it. You want to give it enough slack to turn faicng totally different directions each time you jerk it. Light line seems to help a little too. Good luck and don't give up.
  2. plastics: Zoom anything and Wave Tiki Stiks hardbaits: Rapala anything and Heddon Torpedoes spinnerbaits: whatever's cheap
  3. Well basically it fits the curve of the hull well enough so it doesn't need any vertical support. I did put two extra strips of wood near the sides to increase the area pushing on the hull, but I doubt it was necassary. Pretty much what you see is what you get.
  4. Hope this isn't to late, but tell him to post on www.pensacolafishingforum.com
  5. 65 million years and they haven't changed any? I guess coelacanth's missed out on the evolutionary process. Joking, obviously you can tell I don't buy the theory of evolution.
  6. So I can carve/sand wood into crankbaits, but I can't figure out how to run the wire through the center to attach the hooks. I could just skip the hooks, but then how would I catch anything? The best I could figure is you carve two 'halves' and stick the wire in the middle and use a bunch of epoxy to hold it together? Any help or pictures would be appreciated.
  7. Here's the pictures. Can't see real well, but under that 1st class upholstery job are two pieces of plywood screwed to the edge of the deck to increase the area that is pressing in the hull. Here's the deck. Very sturdy. It can handle a 180 lb. kid jumping on it. A picture to show the scale and how much room you have. Not to bad for a 14' boat.
  8. I'll never forget the fishing trips with my grandpa and I doubt they will either! Good job and go out again...
  9. So what's the most important feature in your boat or dream boat? Rod storage, electronics, tackle storage, livewell, casting deck, etc. List the most important thing to you. I'd probably have to say a large, clear casting deck.
  10. I've got a 14' Sea Nymph and I just finished putting the front deck in. I didn't attach it permanantly to the seat. I rested it on the seat and the hull up front with some braces I built. I used deck screws also. Very simple to build once you get the shape cut out. I'll take some pictures for you and try to post them. I'll probably make a thread about the whole build whenever I finish the back deck.
  11. Funny, but Zoom is pretty much all I use. Price is reasonable and they catch fish. Can't argue with that. I do think they need to come out with a Senko knock-off though. When they do I'll ship a pack to roadwarrior. ;D
  12. The mouth on a bass rips and tears really easy and the small hole made when you set the hook can be about the size of a dime by the time he's jumped and shook his head a couple times. So unless they're gut hooked you have to keep a steady bend in the rod. It'll take practice, but remember even the pros lose them form time to time.
  13. Zoom Finesse worms in natural colors Spend the extra money on some bait monket repellant... ;D
  14. Unless they are on a bed most of my bass have been cught 'blind'. You can see a bass react when he sees you. Normally they will begin moving thier fins quicker and then if you come ven closer they'll swim away. If they have seen me I usually back up and try to throw to them form very far away. Or I'll try to get my lure to them without waving the rod around so as to not spook them.
  15. There's a small pond similar to yours close to me and I've only caught fish on Zoom Finesse worms and small spinnerbaits. I fish the Finesse worms weightless and weedless. Cast ity onto the pads and when you get it to an edge by open water let it fall. They'll probably hit it on the way down. If not, work it as close to the pads as you can. Vary your retrieve till you find the speed and movement they want. Try letting it rest on the bottom before jerking it or try fishing it suspended. Work the whole water column. With the spinnerbaits try downsizing to the smallest one you can find. They make less of a disturbance when they land which might be just what those fish are looking for rather than the huge splash of a regular sized one. Oh, and don't forget to be sneaky...
  16. Woah! good job. Makes me want to get an airbrush.
  17. I've also got the same problem so I'll be listening in...
  18. Man BK get that guy a hamburger and fries! On the same note, if I were to get a bunch of finger mullet out of the bay and feed them to some bass in a little pond behind my house would they put on weight? However, once I stopped feeding them would they perhaps die because they wouldn't have the amount of food as they did when I was feeding them? It seems they are stunted in their growth, but I'd hate to somehow kill them all.
  19. Hey acar555, I saw that a couple days ago and wasn't sure if it was an older model or whatever, but I'll definetely take a look. Since it's going to be an all purpose outfit, I'll probably need the extra adjustment. On second thought since it's only a Cabela's reel I probably won't be able to pick one up locally I'd rather purchase my combo locally so I can make sure I like the feel and can 'support my community'. :
  20. So I'm seriously looking at picking up my first bass-only baitcaster and have pretty much decided on an Abu Garcia. I'm just wondering if I'd be better off putting the extra 50$ into a rod and going with the low end Revo. I'd like to keep the whole rod/reel combo at 200 dollars or less. I'm not sure what rod to get, but I'm leaning towards a Shimano. Good idea? Edit: By the way I'd use it mainly for crankbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and anything else I can't cast with my ultralight. Thanks alot!
  21. I've got a 12' Ugly Stik and a cheapo Shakespeare surf reel and I can easily do 100+ yds with a 3 oz. weight. You should see the looks I get when I start pitching Senkos with it on the lake! Kidding...
  22. What they all said. It seems no matter what you do you'll get twists so I go out on the golfcourse and let all the line out. It's definetely worth the time. Of course I ought a new rod/reel and and had it spooled at the store and I haven't had any problems with it. I might try rigging something up with a drill or something.
  23. Lets see. A pelican, seagull, heron, duck, turtles, random lures lost by others, my hand... That's all I can think of now.
  24. Is there a website with info on how much a bass should weigh according to length? I realize that pre and post-spawn bass will be different, but I'd like to get a rough estimate on how much some of the fish I'm catching are weighing. Thanks Or I supose I could get a scale... :
  25. That's all my grandpa uses and he's been bass fishing his whole life. Works fine for him. I've got a 12' surf, a 6' spin and casting, and an 5 1/2' Ugly Stik Lite which in my opinion is worlds better than a regular Uglu Stik in terms of stiffness and feedback. I also have a Shakespeare Agility UL combo which is the funnest fishing rod I've ever bought. Would I buy another one? Probably, but only the Lite version.
