  1. Anyone ever try fishing these things. I saw them at wal-mart and they looked like they might be good for fishing the weeds. Anyone have experience with them, either good or bad?
  2. Looking for someone to help teach me how to read a depth finder and fish off shore structure. Unfortunately for me, I don't have any friends who are serious bass fisherman, so I've had to teach myself most everything. I seem to be fairly good at fishing shallow shore structure and picking up different lure techniques for that. However reading a fishfinder and fishing things like ledges, and drop offs just boggles me. I can never tell if i'm on the right spot. And consequently all of my different tackle techniques end up being for shallow water. I need to learn to fish deeper, but first i need to make sure that i'm fishing the right spots If anyone out there is around the Concord area and wouldn't mind helping teach me a couple of tricks I'd really appreciate it. Everyone on this site has been very helpful with any questions that I have, unfortunately sometimes I need to see something or watch someone else to truly understand it and build confidence. Thanks, Chuck
  3. Thanks for the info. It looked like a gimmick to me, but you never know. So far I've been having my best luck with the same colors I use during the day watermelon colors. That was a very helpful list you gave and I will definitely keep it in mind the next night I go out.
  4. I've just started night fishing and really enjoy it. I've noticed that you can buy Glow in the dark lures from Gary Yamomoto and the aquaglow line from cabelas. Has anyone had any sucess fishing with glow in the dark lures? Are bass really attracted to what basically amounts to a sinking glow stick? It would be cool to have a lure to cast that I could easily see at night, but only if the fish will bite it as well. Thanks
  5. never tried to break/make a record before. So I have a couple of questions. 1) How do I make sure that my line does not overtest. Is there special line that I have to buy? 2) How do I get the fish weighed with a certified scale, without having to bring it to like a butcher or something, since that would basically involve no catch and release (plus i think my local supermarket would be confused if I just dropped a fish on their cold-cuts scale). 3) Also, where do I need to send the information. and what information in particular do I need, a photo of the fish on the scale? and line sample? and do i need witnesses to sign a letter or something? Thanks for all of the help. I really think I might go out and try and get myself in a record book.
  6. Been out fishing alot of small ponds hiking out and using a float tube. Been catching some decent #'s but nothing to big. Although I did have one strange experience. on my float tube there are velcro straps, designed to hold a rod. I usually bring 2 rods out with me, one i'll be fishing with, and the other i'll have strapped down with the velcro. The way it is strapped is it holds the handle and reel, and the rest of the rod is sticking out over the water. I had a topwater dangling on the rod that i wasn't using and it was just brushing the water next to me. So while i'm fishing lilly pads with a senko my little tube suddenly gets pulled to the side, and my topwater rod starts to bow. I unvelcro the rod and whatever is on there is fighting like a banshee. eventually i pull the fish out from under my tube and it's a pickeral the lenght of my forearm. I can't believe he just swam up next to me, and grabbed the bait that was barely if at all in the water. Pretty strange experiance. Anyway, good luck and tight lines everyone.
  7. it always happens to me, especially if i'm out fishing with my little sister and she gets her line tangled, or lure caught in a tree. Right as i turn to help her I get a hit. On a side note, i guess i'm lucky cause my wife is 8 1/2 months pregnant and she still gets up and goes out fishing with me in the morning.
  8. I have the same problem. I started fishing a little over a year ago, and unfortunately none of my friends fish and the few who have gone fishing with me, know less then I do. I end up being the one doing the teaching. So i've basically had to teach myself. What's hard is that some techniques I pick up on quickly, like Senko fishing, or walking the dog with stickbaits, and I know i'm doing them right (cause I'm catching fish of course). However for me fishing a jig seems impossible, and no matter how much i'm reading on the forum hear I don't actually know if i'm choosing the right jig or doing the right thing with it, cause I have no one to critique me and help me learn more. I tried joining a local bass club, and I go out and fish tournaments with a partner. Unfortunately this so far has only been somewhat helpful. I do get to see other techniques and other anglers styles, but because of the pressure of a tournament there really isn't time to try new things and pick the other anglers brain. Instead because i'm trying to compete, i still fish the same techniques that i do on my own, because I have confidence in them
  9. I'm doing alright with my PB being 78% of the NH state record and I caught it last year on first year of fishing.
  10. went out today to a small pond in new-boston and boy was it worth it. I only had a couple of hours to fish but on my first cast I landed a 4 pound smallie and it only got better. In 2 and a half hours I had caught 4 smallies over 2 pounds and 4 others that weighed in at over a pound. I didn't even count the dinks that I caught. What's funny is that the only thing that the fish would eat was a watermelon senko. I knew the fish were biting so i tied on almost one of everything else, tubes, x-rap, topwaters, crankbaits, other color senkos, you name it I threw it out there just to see what else I could get a hit on, and the only bites at all were on that one color. Needless to say that i stopped fishing everything else and stuck with the senko. My only regret is that I only had a couple of hours of time free, definitely going back out to new boston again soon.
  11. Went out in bow again and did pretty well on topwater baits, zara spooks and poppers. Nothing is as fun as watching a bass explode on a topwater bait
  12. went out to Turee pond over in bow. Was only out for a couple of hours. My nicest bass was caught on a bandit crankbait. Should of had more then i did. Missed alot of hits today trying to get them throught the weeds. The weather was great and I had a very relaxing time. I'm going to go out tomorrow as well and see if I can have a better day.
  13. going to a small pond, hot hole pond in Loudon/concord NH, on tues or wed. It's supposed to be a trout pond, but i've heard that for a little place it has good smallies. Anyone ever fished there and if so, have any advice on the place. Thanks
  14. thanks for the help. If i get out to bow again soon, i'll try doing some more deep water fishing. I was on the flat you talked about for awhile, and there were plenty of fish there, but getting them to bite was a different matter.
  15. was out sunday on Bow lake for a tournament and didn't do so good. I saw over 100 bass cruising or schooling in the shallow flats but couldn't get them to bite a thing, and I mean I threw everything I had at them. In the whole day my partner only caught 2 at about 2 pounds each and I lost one that was about 4 pounds when he broke my line at the boat :'(. Turns out that everyone else who did well in the club was fishing jerkbaits and caught some decent smallies. I think jerk baits were the only lure i didn't think to try. oh well, there's always next time right? I've never seen so many bass in my life and been unable to catch one.
  16. went out today on turkey pond in concord and couldn't buy a bite, no matter what i tried. Oh well. Hopefully i'll do better tomorrow. Anyone ever go fishing on a tuesday or wed and need a fishing partner? I have those days off during the week and am always looking for someone to fish with. None of my friends fish and am looking to get out with some new people to learn some new techniques.
  17. hey there, new to the forums and this is my first post. I live in Concord NH, and have been fishing for about 2 years. Just saying hi, and if anyone is ever looking for a fishing partner, let me know.
