A Shoutout for NH Fishermen!!!
Went over and checked out drew lake and stumpfield today. Looks like neither has a ramp that i can launch my boat in. To bad, both looked like great fishing. Also tried to find the ramp to hopkington lake and the road to the ramp was closed and blocked by a gate. Does anyone know why this is? It looks like a great place to fish timber

Here is what I'm thinking...
Great post. I read this section about resumes every once and awhile just to see what it would take to actually get sponsored. Now i don't even fish tournaments but it's interesting to think about. However what I tend to see are many 12-14 year olds trying to get sponsored. What amazes me is how bass fishing is a sport, but no one seems to treat it as the same as other sports when it comes to making it big or earning a sponsorship. Here's what I mean. Take any other major sport, basketball for example, and there are no 13 year olds making it big. If they want to go pro or even play college ball they need to work at it day in day out. Drill, practice, play in tournaments. If you want to succeed in basetball you aren't worried about sponsorhips or free shoes. It just doesn't happen until you develop the skills to earn those things. I'm the oldest of 5 and 4 of us played college ball, only division 3, but still it was the work that got us there, not looking to get stuff. My youngest sister is actually going Division 1 this year to Columbia. She got there by being the best and always working harder then anyone else. The colleges came to her, not the other way around. Bass fishing should be the same. If you develop your skills when you are younger, are a better angler then your competition and win tournaments the sponsors and money will find you. As always its about work ethic and presenting yourself as a professional. That makes you the best. And being the best is what gets you noticed

How important is color of a lure??
i agree that about 90 percent of the time specific colors do not matter. Natural colors tend to work no matter what. However there is that 10% exception. I can think of one great example in which i'm sure that color mattered. I was shore fishing and fished the same place for 3 days at different times in the day. I was at cabin my family had rented for the week. I was fishing the only place I could, off of the end of the dock and I must have thrown every color and lure that I could in the water. The only color that would get bit was yellow. Different lures types as well. Yellow spinnerbait, yellow crank, and yellow topwater. No other color worked. I probably would have done even better if I had owned yellow worms. So for that week, at that lake, yellow was key. so does color matter? The answer is that color never matters, except for those times that it does ;D

A Shoutout for NH Fishermen!!!
As Jay said, we went out to a small pond in Bow called turree. I FINALLY caught some fish. A couple of nice LM's. We were orginally going to go to Turkey in Concord but I realized that the ramp is so bad my car can't back the trailer down. That's what I get for selling my truck and getting something smaller. Guess I can cross that lake of the list for this year I was suprised that the fish were biting with the air in the high 50's and with a cold rain. After a week in the 70's i figured the fish would have pulled back to deeper water. I'm not complaining, i'm just glad to start getting bites again

How do you fish your Rat-L-Traps?
I tend to fish rattle traps poorly and with little success. Probably not the best technique, but I like to think that I've honed it to perfection

Light at the end of the tunnel!?
Why build them here? A refinery in India is being doubled in size to provide 5% of the worldwide demand of gasoline. Why import oil and then refine it here when we can just import the product that we want (gasoline)? why pay a middle man? wouldn't we be able to have lower prices by buying unrefined and do it ourselves instead of paying others to do it for us? Depends on the price of labor and the cost of running the refinery. With the cheap international labor from a financial standpoint it can make alot of sense to pay the middle man. No upfront cost to build and maybe still getting it cheaper then if we did it on our own. Welcome to the world of outsourcing. :-/

For the Record
I think RW is right about oil going back down but might be wrong about the time frame. There is a statistic out there that tracks the oil prices compared to the cash flow of the investment market. Simply put the prices on oil tend not to decline until the excess cash withdrawn from the stock and bond market has been reinvested. If this tracking holds true then it oil will come down to a median price only after the market has balanced itself will we see the oil stabilize at a lower price. I think it's going to be about 4 months after RW says that we will see a large reduction in the price of oil

frugality 101
I don't drink, That saves me tons of money when we go out to bars. I can't believe the amount of money people will drop on drinks at the bar I also brew my own coffee and ice tea at home and bring it with me, no starbucks or Dunkin Donuts for me. By the way for those who like dunkin donut's coffee, you can buy new england coffee beans at the grocery store. it's the same company just with a different bag. 8 bucks for a bag of D&D, or 3 or 4 for New England Coffee

Light at the end of the tunnel!?
A great deal of this is also influenced by the mortage crisis and the lack of credible liquidity in the markets. This can drive people toward quality (ie: bonds and cash), but bonds aren't as safe as before with the lack of transparancy in the rating system. This has lead to an explosion in both money markets and commodity prices. Investors are flocking to oil and other commodities because it is a definable security as compared to some of the fixed income investments like CMO's. It's not all just supply and demand. There is a lot more involved as well

need help with this spring
With the temps you mentioned I'd try the creek first if it has warmer water flowing in. That will tend to pull the bass to the creek mouth stack up and wait for food to flow to them on the warmer water. But RW maybe be right as well. The key is to try both and figure out what the situation is like on your lake

Anyone else enjoy fishing in the rain?
I love a warm summer rain to fish in. However I did get stuck out in a pond once in a canoe with my brother. It was nice when we paddled out and then just started raining lightly. I though it would make great fishing. Next thing I know it's pouring so hard I can't see my brother in the front of the canoe. I actually lost direction on where we were. By the time we paddled to shore the canoe was over a quarter filled. One of the strangest weather changes I have ever experianced

How many people fish with a partner that outfishes them? (every time)
nothing bums me out more then when i take someone out fishing and i'm catching fish and they don't get anything. I really enjoy watching other people succeed and like LBH and others have said, fishing on my boat is a team effort.

Fishing trips, gas, and you
There are so many nice ponds within an hour of me that I never have to go very far anyway. Gas is just another reason I love only having a 25hp and a small boat. I don't drive far because of gas concerns but more because it cuts into fishing time

A Shoutout for NH Fishermen!!!
Went out today on the piscatequog river in goffstown. No luck at all. But it was my fault for trying to fish to shallow I think. I got tricked into thinking the bass would be up on the shore with the warm weather, and my fishfinder was broken so i couldn't figure out how warm the water was. Mostly fished a jerk bait, crankbait and senko. Hopefully I'll start catching something soon. I need to slow down and fish some t-rigged plastics or jigs i think. The good news is I got my boat in the water and got to go fishing on a beautiful day. As a side note, I almost always have thursday's free, so if anyone is ever looking for a partner for a day, your boat or mine, just let me know. The best way to get better is to fish with other people as often as you can

Question For All The NH ppl
AJ your friend should not have been busted at all. It's anything over 25hp needs a certificate. Which is nice for me because I have a 25 hp on my boat. Also that law did not go into effect until Jan 1st of 08. So that's 2 reasons he should not have been fined. When you get your renewal notice for your boat is states the new law right on the side

Sharing Expenses on a fishing trip
Going at this from another angle. If you do have a guest and they offer to help pay expenses, if they ask you how much you want, give them an actual number. Before I owned my own boat I fished tournaments with a guy who was nice enough to take me along. Having never owned a boat, I didn't really put much thought into gas for a large motor, towing and other expenses. When I offered to pay he would just say doesn't matter, whatever you want. I'd give him 10 bucks or whatever I had on me. I never realized how much he was paying and would gladly have ponied up more if I had just known. After getting my own boat I felt kind of like a jerk. :-[ However when I take someone out on my boat I expect nothing from them, I was going to go anyway. If they offer I'll give them an actual amount that would split the gas. If the have less that's fine, but at least they'll have an idea of what my costs really are
