  1. Nice Reel + Nice Rod = Nice Rig!! May you stick many bass with it in the coming days
  2. LOL....seems appropriate. I learned something from this thread. I've never used Hot Sauce, but now I know why NOT to.

Ok, so whats a Clunn look like?

    Which one is the "Horton"?
  5. 45 ft is quite a difference really. Hell, most of my casts don't go much farther than that on any given day. Not that I can't, just don't need to. But, in a direct comparison just to see, thats quite a difference.
  6. Can't say I ever have, but you could if you wanted to I guess. I never will. Part of the fun of jig fishing is dressing 'em up. Maybe you want to try crossing the 2 baits. Get some worm weights you can stick a jig skirt on (Thunder Bullets makes some) and T-rig a craw worm or trailer of your choice.
  7. Anybody here favor brass over other non tox options? I know a good number of you gents have jumped on the tungsten wagon and some have tried steel but I want to see if anybody still favors brass. I will use lead until I'm told I can't but I have situations where I prefer my brass.
  8. Somebody better check and see who's on Catts account? Don't sound like Catt to me. Even HE wouldn't do that to a kid.

X2 Use your PM feature! Everybody should have and fish some Big M cranks, his work is "master level" quality. Absolutely stellar quality baits and confidence inspiring to throw!! What a great guy to deal with!! I put him through a very torturous "custom" project and he delivered much better performance than I expected. Unreal! Besides his pretty paint that all you guys see here, there is some serious "build" skill in that guys hands.
  10. Lots of whirly-twirly action vs subtlety.....think about it. Creatures typically have a lot of "action" appendages. Jigs are much more subtle. I have found ***'s *** is a killer on a snagless Slider Head for shallow active fish. For just a bit more profile and action the Lunker City Ozmo fills the bill. Post front conditions see me fishing a lot of jigs or more subtle plastics.
  11. In my opinion, yes you do. They are my 1-2 punch on deep structures. I always start with my 1/2 oz jig, if they don't want that, 9 times out of 10 they WILL take the worm. Other days it is exactly opposite and they will pound the jig all day. If I HAD to choose between them, I'd go with the worm. When they quit hitting either I can usually pull a few more from each spot with a Producto 3" or 4" Mullet on a light Gopher Mushroom head. This bait is also killer on a Drop Shot rig. This bait has become my "spot mop". My approach varies with weather though, sometimes I start with jerkbaits and traps if I think the fish are "up". but when it comes to bottom bouncing those "spot on the spot" areas I always start with my proven 1-2 approach. Anyway, what you are covering with the 2 is options in profile, you gotta be able to offer both.
  12. Biggest waste of money I've ever spent on a bass lure. Bought one when they first hit the market many years ago, never caught one fish with it. Still have the POS if somebody wants it. Total scrub! fishinfiend has the EXACT right idea!!
  13. Ask anybody to list their top 4 manufacturers and if Pflueger doesn't make that list they have their head in the sand!! Pflueger is good stuff. I own 2 Pflueger spinning reels same as Rooster, comments would be about the same. I checked out their entire line of casting reels last spring and they have some nice ones. I thought the Asaro was a gem for the price.
  14. Clear for me. I mostly fish clear water so I stick with clear line and it seems to work fine in the mud too.
  15. Trilene XT for me. It's even better now with the "new" formula!! Everybody else gripes about it, I LOVE it!!
  16. Muddy don't use no stinkin' Cabela's reels.
  17. Muddy, I haven't looked lately, but they had a Prodigy round body reel too, besides the Daiwa low profile version. Thats the only other one I'm aware of. Don't know who makes that for them, but I recall a thread awhile back speculating about it. Since I'm not into the "rounds" I have never even looked at it. I know the BPS Extreme is a pretty popular unit, and seems to get plenty of good reviews here. I don't have a BPS near me and I won't buy rods or reels without handling them first. I have never bought "house brands" before last year. There is definitely some stuff worth considering. The BPS line of rods/reels is staggering....so many different models covering all budgets!!
  18. The new Prodigy reels are no POS!! Cabela's Prodigy was originally made by somebody other than Daiwa (Pinnacle??) prior to the 07 season and THOSE Prodigy were known to have some problems. I have an 07 model (which is a TD-A 150H with an extra bearing) and I used this reel more than all my others this season without a hitch. I love it!! I don't care what others think of it, when the 08's go on clearance I'm buying 2 more AND the 08's are better than my 07. Just as an aside.....the Prodigy spinning reels kick arse too!! My 07 Prodigy is almost as good as my new Revo SX. My Revo SX holds only a small advantage in it's ability to toss a lighter bait. It isn't what I consider a $60 advantage (difference in retail pricing). The difference is small enough that I think the 08 model Prodigy will match my Revo SX in this regard. I've always trusted the Daiwa name as much as I do Shimano. The Prodigy is a good deal at $100, it's flat out unbeatable at clearance pricing. The BPS Extreme would have to be one stellar reel to be better than the Prodigy. 8-)
  19. My pick goes to the Shimano Convergence. I've had a few (and still use one sometimes) and I think they are great rods for the money.
  20. After my first complete season fishing with my Revo SX, I'm a beleiver in ABU Garcia again. The Revo S (which I don't have) is a good bet. Another reel I am impressed with is the Cabela's Prodigy (Daiwa). I used this reel more than all my others this year without any problems and as soon as they put the 08's on clearance I'm buying 2 more. I think they are awesome reels for $100, better yet at clearance prices.
  21. Good rod for the price! Another good one is the Shimano Convergence.
  22. I found spools of 10lb and 17lb XT in my garage that had been in there for at least 10 years. Used it last summer without a hitch. That line saw -30 temps as well as summer heat of near 100 deg. I still have some of the 17lb left and will use it, nothing wrong with it at all.
