Trailer hitch
New one to me, but lets play with this theory for a sec.... : Boats ride better on plane, and when they are on plane only the rear portion of the boat is in the water, and the rest of the boat is out of the water floating on a cusion of air (at least that how it seams to me) Maybe this is what cause a boat that is higher in the front at the ball hitch to pull better. They catch the air and act as an airfoil (wing) and provide lift making them ride lighter on the trailer and somewhat given the driver of the tow vehicle the feeling that they are pulling a lighter load. Now, under other side of that coin is the fact that if this is waht is actualy happening then your boat is literaly fling on the road surface and is just seconds away from disaster!! Also i would guess that it would cause you to burn more gas due to that 500 to 1500+ pound kite that you have hitched to the back of the tow vehcile. Me I try and tow with all thing level to include the tow vehicle. that way i would hope that I will have generate no air tuburlance or less of it and just slip through the wind ristance and get to where ever it is that i am going. I could be wrong, more than likely wrong but hey I rater take a S.A.G (Smart Azz Guess)at it than to leave you hanging

VHF Radio Fuse
Sorry James_Heddon, I can normally find almost anything i need on the net but this was stoped me cold. The one way that you could is by powering it up anc connecting a fluke meter (Used to measure the amprage moving through wire) to read the amp draw at differenft states of operation.. receiving, sending, and of course just being on. Sorry i could not provide more info. If it is not under warranty open that puppy up who know their may be a sticker in side under the cover that gives you the info that you seak.

Trailer Lights @%#&!!!
Well pluging and unpluging is fine unless you have a leak. I been doing what Ann-Marie said for the pass 10 plus years. The aonly time i replace a bulb is when one gets broken out due to miss halp either by someone backing in tome or vise-versa. I welded a small piece of plate on to some vice grips and i take my lights off the trailer evertime. Some what of a hassel but it beats repalce a bulb or a stolen licence plate.

Aluminum Boat Question
I have the same problem with a 1432 that I bought fromthe original owner. He can only remember the year tht he bought it new. The data plage is still their but only gives the HP rating and the serial number. I gave up looking for it and just starting doing a comparison to other jon boats that were the same size both in transom hight, side hight an lenght. And took my best guess from that

Mounting long shaft motor on short transom
Is this normal for a longshaft motor that is mounted on a 15 in transom? Is the drag that is being created by the plate being so low in the water causing this reaction Your mother has no idea as to what transom it is on. All it does is burn fuel at an increasing speed as you apply the throtle The purpose of the transom elevator is get the cavitation plate on the motor at the correct postition in relationship withe bottom of the boat. U have some other issue with your motor. 1. Check the high speed adjustment on the motor. 2. Make sure their is no fuel leaks in my fuel system (My 25 Evinrude did this to me once and it puzzeled me to tears) 3. Chech your spark plugs and mak sure neithe is fouled. 4. Make sure your fuel bulb (that thing you squeeze to prime the carb) is holding pressure

Amount of HP to plane Jon Boat of x size & weigh
First off let me start off by saying this is a very nice form. I learned quiet a bit. I read a lot of the older post and have gotten some very good ideals to decking my Durcraft boat. Got a question that I ask over on pagebiz.com (Ol' Paw's Fishing Tackle Bulletin Board) and never got an answer to a few years ago and thougt i push it out to some of the wize ones of this board! Anyone know of a formula / chart that one could use / cross reference to fig out what it will take to plane out boat with x measures and x amount of weight? I have a 1965 jon boat 1436 at most 125 pounds ( maybe 1432? ) and a 1972 /1976 Duracraft 1448 about 175 to 200 Pounds I pick up both of these boats real cheep. The 1436 $40.00 and the Durcraft $85 with a tilting trailer with spare tire! As soon as I can get my tow vehickle back on the road I have the time i will deck the Durcraft from aft to stern and the little jon just with a casting deck and flat floors. LBH My boat and your boat share a simular name LoL
