  1. Wow, this translates directly to surfing. I lie to everyone. I even go to Surf Expo and talk loudly about how many of my friends have been bitten by sharks and how few days Florida has waves. These are just the obvious tricks. I have dozens more up my sleeve that are situation specific depending on my judgment of the other surfer. And they work. The evidence is clear with waves I catch vs waves they catch. The pay of is real in my case. I don't threaten people though. That's wrong in my book, but I know it happens. Most surfers I know will not share directions to the places they like to surf. There are only so many waves available and at prime locations not one wave will go unridden. But some surfers will go without a wave because every wave they want already has a surfer on it. Oops I'm rambling. God I miss surfing. That's why I fish now.
  2. I like my Costa Del Mars for their better lenses than Oakley or Ray Ban. But as stated they are not as stylish. So I went ahead and put some glasses keepers on them so they are even less stylish and I can't loose them. 580 Polarized is the best lenses I have ever put on. If you ever see somone with costa del mars on its a safe bet they are a fisherman.
  3. For any one in Florida here are a bunch of basic bathymetry maps. http://lakewatch.ifas.ufl.edu/MapList.htm

  5. you would not get the additive power of both. it would probably be a little above the 7.5 hp total output. How would you hold both tiller handles? Would you have to face backwards?
  6. Or just build the whole boat out of plexiglass.
  7. I agree. Sea foam first. Then move on to the next cheapest fix. Never start with an expensive fix first. You might try the fuel pump next. I got lucky with rebuilding that once and now my motor starts like it was new. Before I always had to pump the ball if i was idling for more than a minute.
  8. My small boat is a 14 ft McKee Craft. Its tri hull. I have added a large back deck up to the gunwales. I weigh 180. I and another 180 person can stand on the back corner gunwale without getting our toes wet. The boat also has a 60 hp on the back. The only time I have had a little water come over the back corner is when standing there and watching a 1.5 ft wake from an Air Nautique hit us. It wasn't any more than a toe wetter despite my free board when I am standing there is only 6 inches. The boat rocked pretty bad with the large wake, but it never feels tippy.
  9. East Lake Fish Camp - Big 5 mile diameter round lake. 20 minutes south east of Orlando. Turkey Lake Park - electric only lake big enough to take a week to fish. Google them.
  10. If i may chime in again. I like LB Hookers ideal of volunteering in an event that sounds very similar to what you want to do. This would give you first hand knowledge of the needs of handicap people while on boats. Take a camera to get pictures of the things that work that you would want to incorporate in your set up also. This could save you lots of headache of trying to guess at what works and ending up with prototypes. Why reinvent the wheel? My experience is with elderly but not handicapped and I like the pontoon.

Awesome action. I have been looking for a bait with that nice slow swim action. Dose anyone know of one about 1oz or so ?
  12. That was me. I am very pleased with how this set up works. I am 5'10" and the guy I fish with is 6'1". Taking the bench seats out and putting one solid piece of ply wood as the floor gives more room in the boat. The chairs are not mounted to the floor, they only sit on the floor and can be moved about as needed. The biggest down side is there is no longer any flotation in the boat. We do not go across the middle of lakes because of this. His wife fishes with him too and likes the comfort of the office chairs. 13. http://www.toolking.com/grip-on-tools_57396.aspx I use pliers similar to these to do just that. i bought mine at auto zone when looking for something else. I figure half a hook is easier to pass than a whole hook. And some times the two half's can be retrieved much easier than the whole. Make sure to get long handles for better leverage. Those hooks are tough to cut.
  14. you mean there are no 13, 15, 17, 18, 19, or 21's ? :-?
  15. The topic of digital steering comes up from time to time. I think the general censuses is the entry level digital steers are to slow at turning the head for steering and are frustrating if you are already accustomed to cable steer. There may be some upper end ones that are good, but you will get more bang for your buck with mid level cable steers. Search this forum for trolling motor topics and get a snack. You may be reading a while.
  16. Where are you located at? Here in Fl we have a large used boat market including many pontoons for under $5k. Depending on how much work you want to do. I have seen water ready running pontoons for that price. For closer to $2k I think I have seen trailer and toons with railing that need a floor, seats, motor, tires, lights, etc.
  17. I have the 575. I think it is the same but with two small side sonars for an increased cone size. I turn the side cones off half the time for a better resolution. With them off I believe it the same as the 535. I really like it. It doesn't take long to understand what you're seeing and it is consistent. My entry level sonar would easily get confused and give false readings. This one doesn't get confused and I can see the thermo cline.
  18. New hooks are cheap and ther is no way i can get any hook as sharp as quaility new hooks. For the price of the file you are getting ready to buy you could probably buy a season's worth of quality hooks. Owner, Gamagatsu, Xpoint, Ditachi, etc.
  19. I think it is illegal in Fl too. I took a large tree from an unkept empty lot on the edge of my local lake. The neighboring house came out and tried to grumpily persuade me not to. He said he had that same idea, but found it was illegal to dump debris in to the lake. I think he was grumpy because I took his plan out from under him and now he wouldn't know the GPS coordinates to the tree.
  20. all i tried to do was quote you and i already fried your diagram.
  21. I see. You save on some wireing by using a comon ground that can run both 12, 24 or 36V. I never would have thought of that. If you have enough brain power to keep it straight while you are wireing it it makes good sence. But one little brain fart and i would fry somthing.
  22. Your thoughts are noble and I wish to encourage you in every way, but I don't think this will be a cheap or quick undertaking. If your heart isn't set on a bass boat you may want to consider a pontoon boat. It will be more stable than almost any other boat including tri hulls. The pontoon boat will also have much more space for wheel chairs, crutches and or canes. It will have railing for holding onto and a flat deck for rolling on and off of. It should be easier to build a ramp onto as the deck comes flush with the edge and has a gate whereas most other boats have a gunwale you would have to deal with. I have a small bass boat and my parents have a pontoon. I use the pontoon to entertain guests for cruising or fishing. It holds more people and is much more user friendly for people who are not on boats that often. I can only fit one or two other people on my little boat and I couldn't imagine trying to care for someone while captaining my little boat. With the pontoon I can take all the grandparents out on a rough day and still be OK. If you could restrict your self to electric only lakes then other boat wakes wont rock you and the ride will be even more stable. Thats my $.02 The boat you mentioned sounds like a lot of work. I guess I am up to $.04 now.
  23. Dougherty you have a way with words. That's much less wordy than what I said.
  24. on an automatic tricle charger with full acid / distilled water. and warmer.
  25. Your boat should start really fast. ;D More seriously though I am under the impression you can make it work with the three batteries. Connect the three together for the trolling motor in 36V fashion and then connect the motors starting wires to one of the three batteries. This will work fine while all three batteries are charged. Now lets fast forward to the end of your toughest fishing day. You have been running the trolling motor more than normal due to the unforeseen high winds. You are already frustrated by the winds and lack of fish. Your batteries are at 40%. Still some trolling left in them. But the one that starts the motor is also at 40%. Is this enough to start the boat? You may now be stranded unless you can rewire all three batteries from series to parallel while on the water. It is most likely better to isolate the two systems to prevent this scenario.
