  1. Hey guys, just a heads up if anyone else was interested but this got pushed back to next Saturday, May 17. I made conflicting plans and had to back out for this weekend. But right now it's a definate that myself and Sk Mafia will be down there. I know Dan said he'd be a maybe at this point. If anyone else is interested pm me for details and I'll let you know where we plan on fishing and where we plan on meeting up. It's gonna be in Fredericksburg on the Rap this time around. We will be meeting at 7am and fishing until about 2 or 3pm.
  2. Sam, My parents took me to a Air show down in the Newport News area by one of the bases down there when I was a kid. I remember them being all exicted about these "Blue Angels" and them telling us how lucky we were to be seeing the show (some of my parents military friends brought us). So we went and saw them. Man I do remember that show though. Even though I was young the dare devil stunts these guys pulled and the length of time they did them for was unreal. The bomb dives, the flying straight at each other and then turning last possible second in opposite directions, the formations, etc. It was incredible. Definately a sight to see. Anyone who hasn't seen them at a show needs to go one day. Sam, what place did Busch finish? Haven't been focusing on NASCAR much lately, but he's my driver. Been too focused on the NFL draft and such.
  3. Hokie, my friends and I fished from shore there last year with no grief and or issues at one of the parks. I know which one you are talking about. I wasn't aware of the reciprocal thing at that time. But like I said there were no persons asking questions or checking licenses (we may have just got lucky though). I'd call up whoever is in charge of the DC fishery and find out what the deal is with that and/or refer to the Virginia freshwater and saltwater guide you can find on the VDGIF website and download. If not one of the guys there might know whether or not that spot is considered Va license (numbers are also listed in that guide for questions just like this). Let us know what you find out. I saw some guys there pulling in catfish like they were going out of style.
  4. Hey guys, My dad and I and possibly Dominion Dan will be hitting Mattawoman Creek this weekend. Has anybody tried throwing topwater on the Potomac yet this month or late last month? I was curious if the post spawn buzzbait and or frog bite is starting up at all as the bass should be on the second wave of spawn here shortly. Any of you find any post spawn bucketmouths yet? Just curious. We were planning on launching around 7 (high tide at 11:30) and fishing main river outside of the creek until the incoming tide looking for some new main river spots. Last time out Manns Cranks, Lipless Cranks and Zoom worms seemed to produce most fish. Other baits were left almost untouched. I'm gonna try running some spinnerbaits along with those during high tide this time and maybe try out my new Lake Fork Magic Shad swimbaits I just bought. The action on those are awesome! And I found some that come pre rigged which is even better. Walmart has em' for just 2.47 a pop. We plan on fishing grass... more grass... and more grass lol. Moving in with the tide and pushing back as it goes out. Will have a report for those interested day after the trip. Later fellas. Tight lines out there on the tidal!
  5. Never said I wanted exact spots dude. But when a group of people are gonna sit around on here and hide multiple spots or hush hush them it gets to be annoying. It's like you come on here to brag that you know of this spectacular place and that you catch great fish there... but oh no... Im not gonna tell anyone else where it is. Telling 5-7 people where a body of water is the same as telling 10-20 people. Because some of those people no matter what they say are gonna show buddies outside of that group and so forth and so forth. People are gonna see you fishing there and ask "hey, ya catchin anything"? then they are gonna tell people they know that fish and its a never ending cycle. That's my last two cents. I just wanted people to know how ridiculous they are sounding coming on here boasting about their new private hole that they aren't gonna give up. That's just not what this place was last year. Only point I'm trying to make. that and people are hypocrites. But that's my last two cents. I'm out and I'll let other peopl chime in.
  6. Slomoe, I'm a part of four or five forums. I don't let stuff on the net get to me. I just see how this place has chaged (the southeast section) over the course of the last year or so. It's been this way since fishing started up this year. I don't know if it's you guys are all afraid of the new NOVA members signing on here and membership increasing or afraid of losing some of your spots that I GUARANTEE you others already know about. It's whatev to me. The number one important factor in fishing is confidence. I fish plenty of small ponds in my area and can catch fish alomst every single day I go out on all kinds of baits. I see people there ALL the time or even when I drive by and I'm not there. And these are secluded ponds too. Its just weird how all of this changed overnight. Seriously a couple weeks ago everyone was like "hey I'm going here", or "hey I went here and caught this" or "who wants to come with me here?" Now it's just like people gravitate towars others and don't share info with the majority. No biggie on my part, I fish all over the place and don't care one way or another. All I'm saying is for those that expected me to give up info and then not recieve anything back, it not's gonna happen. I'm taking a break from this place and I may come back if I see change. But if not I'm sticking to the main forum, and I'll let you guys take this sub section in whatever direction you want. Peace playas.
  7. I'm gonna catch heat and flack for this but honestly I'm at the point where I really don't care very much for this section of the board and am about to stay out of it altogether. Certain people, not mentioning names are hypocrites on here. They call out peoples spots when they take pictures and then they don't reveal certain spots themselves? Whatever. Those who do this obviously will out themselves or send me a nasty pm, I don't care. A few weeks ago I caught my pb at a certain location that I didn't want "shared to the whole world". And I got called out about not sharing information. Since then I have listed every outing, where I was, what I caught fish on, etc. I like how this can go both ways when any given person feels like it. BS. Honestly here's what's gonna happen on my end. No more reports (for those who are interested in my outings you can pm me), no more locations are going to be given away, no more pics will be put on here without the background being whited out, etc. I'm just sick of some people tagging along with others and forming these little clicks that don't include any outsiders who didn't participate on that given day. Not to brag or to be conceited but I've pretty much been a leader on here as far as getting stuff together, organized, and setting up times we can all meet and fish. I met some pretty good guys and some others I hade my quirks about. The ones I second guessed, I'm pretty sure I was right about now. I'm not gonna list my buddies or list who is cool and who I don't care for on here and you guys can talk about me or people you don't care for behind your back all you want. Just remember when you're ready to get out there and really fish and be a fishing partner and or a friend (as thats what I used to consider most of you on here) you have my username and you can pm me. If not, that's cool I have some of the best fishing partners in the world aside from this place so... it's really whatever. I have definately noticed a change in this place. And I agree with Avalon. Pretty much everywhere in NOVA is overifshed. If your worried about fishing pressure drive west or south and find places that way. Nova is overfished and it's a reality we have to learn to accept.
  8. Hey guys, off work today and looking to do a little skipping around to some places this morning. Trying to be back home by 2 or 3 to do some chores and get the house cleaned up for the wife, and to go pick up a mothers day present for her since she's expecting. Anyone wanna hit a pond or two? I'm gonna hit my local pond at vets and then maybe head over to the Pohick regional park and fish from shore there covering the cove to the left of the launch and around the dock areas and down the shoreline. I normally can catch one or two here. If anyone is interested call my cell. If you don't have the number, send me a text on aol to username - sonshynne6969 It should go through to my cell phone. Be at vets around 845 and at Pohick no later than 11.
  9. Sam, thanks for the info. Dan, pm sent.
  10. This was my confidence bait for the first month of fishing this year. Multiple great color options, you can throw it over submerged weed beds and next to timber. It's a GREAT pond bait and a search bait. I have also caught a Striper and Yellow Perch on the Potomac on one of these and a pickerel to boot at Briery Creek Lake. So multiple species will take this. Mann's makes great cranks. Only downfall is that the hooks get caught up on each other sometimes and they don't run right but it only takes a second to fix so... Grade A lure choice for shallow water, ponds, open water search bait, and parallel bank fishing. I'd say almost half my fish this year have come off the Mann's Minus One/Elite series. The others have been off senkos, zoom g tail worms, rat l traps, and one off a spinner.
  11. Dan, Family is always more important. I hope your grandpas successful recovery only improves buddy. Take your time to enjoy seeing him. If things do change and you guys go up later or whatever let me know. I'm going out from 6:30am til about 9 or so. Anyway check the Pony Pasture thread, things have changed a bit. I think it's gonna be on the rap as long as water conditions stay relatively the same this week. I'll keep you updated though. Take care man. This week I'm going out to Mercer on Monday morning. 7:30am until about 11:45am. Let me know if you're down. My first outing there this year and so far some big fish have come out of there this year.
  12. Glenn, Awesome explanation man. I had my thoughts and feelings as to why this place has gone through a little change, but honestly I think it was good in the end. I love everyone on here, and yea I butted heads with a few people my first year on here but we talked things out and got over it, or we just steer clear of each other now. I think for the growing population of bass fishermen in here all who have their own thoughts, opinions, ways of fishing, etc you guys are doing a GREAT job of keeping everyone and everything civil. It's hard when it's a bunch of guys and when we have sections on the forum that are devoted to stuff aside from fishing. We are all gonna form opinions and be biased one way or another based off our lives experiences. I just think we all need to see both sides of the fence, take time to take in other opinions even if they differ from our own and most importantly respect one another. This is the best place ever. When I'm not talking to my friends, family, wife... out fishing, or hanging out with people I am here enjoying my time talking to people who love doing what I do: Fishing for bass. We all brag now and then, but it comes with the confidence we gain from learning on here and being able to tearn that into productivity on the water. Thanks for everything guys and mods and Glenn, you guys are doing a Fantabulous job!
  13. The Rap at Fredericksburg is on a downward trend as far as height at 3.10 feet right now. Water temp is still a bit cold at 62.2 degrees but it is on an upward trend. As of right now with Pony Pasture that high and I doubt it will get down to normal levels especially with more rain tommorrow and sunday and possibly next week sooo.... As of now I'd say Fredericksburg. Anyone else down to meet me at River Rd and wade some of the shallower areas adjacent to deeper pools and pockets? Let me know because I know of some pretty good spots as I wade upstream. Only for the die hards I'm ready for smallies and can't wait any longer. So what's it gonna be fellas? I can drive if anyone from Woodbridge/Fairfax wants to go and meet me at my place.
  14. Anyone know the state of Pony Pasture right now? I'm gonna look up the water flow, temp, and height on the data page today and try and get an idea. Is it wadeable yet? At least up to your knees? I wanna head down next Saturday and fish it from 7:30am til about 2 or 3. Anyone interested? If so let me know and we can plan things out. Haven't caught a smallie all year and I'm itching. If folks think it's a bad idea I may just hit Fredericksburg instead and fish for smallies there on the Rap and wade knee deep or so depending on the same factors as the James. Will post info as I find it. Anyone caught any smallies from either place yet this year? Would anyone be down for either or (James or the Rap)?
  15. Dan you available tommorrow morning? I was gonna hit a couple of my ponds close by early in the am. You interested? Let me know and give my cell a ring today after 4pm (when I get off work) and we can try and figure it out. I can give you directions to my apartment in Dumfries and we can roll over to the ponds close by in my car. My favorite pond the bass average 2-2.5lbs, and the other pond I wanna hit you can catch 1-1.5lbers pretty regularly. Just give me a heads up pal. Love to meet up with you again and rip some lips. Ps: What's the dill with Pony Pasture next weekend, you in? May 10th, I'll be down probably around 7:30 or so and stay til' about 2 or 3.
  16. Carp are one of the toughest fighting freshwater fish there is. They run with your line like crazy and can make your arms sore after 20-30 minute battles depending on the size. They can be pretty neat as far as colors depending on where you catch them and if they were moving around in the mud (forget it they look nasty after that) haha. I would fish for them right after largemouth and smallmouth. Nothing gets my heart beating faster than playing tug of war with these guys. Every one is a challenge to land and a fight to remember. I know quite a few NOVA guys who make fishing for them a frequent thing. Dan, alot of the guys that fish fountainhead pull the carp out and take em' home. I heard they taste nasty though. Hey snow, is that a grass carp? If so they must be released because they are put in the lake to control vegetation and none in Virginia can be possessed.
  17. Yup, definately a carp. Seen a ton of em' there and my friend and I catch em' all the time off of the floating dock at Lake Ridge. Corn, corn, corn. Tons a fun. The population of them there is actually quite ridiculous. And yes it's not listed on the web site just as many of the other lakes don't have everything listed. And to think I thought they have been doing a great job updating the VDGIF site... pshh!
  18. Okrod that's just what happens man. Then when they pull you in it's hook, line, sinker dude... you've sinked just like me lol, she pulled you under bud. I feel ya haha! Just like my wife USED to like going out on the boat and USED to like fishing. I think she still does somewhat just she doesn't wanna do anything now that she's preggers lol. Anyway, later boyz.
  19. Go down Golden Ball til' you get to the dam and park along the road. Quickest access to some of the best fishing. Dorothy Lane is too far and you have to walk too much. The other side of the lake opposite of the shoreline from Dorothy is pretty good too and is walkable all the way down to the first and only large cove. You can park at the beginning of Golden Ball and walk down where the gate is to get there. I've caught some decent fish there. Tons of carp in this area though.
  20. Hey guys, My dad and I got out to Huntsman this morning after we got some work done on our vehicles and fished for about 2 and a half hours. We found some fish in the coves to the left and right of the dam. We caught a total of four and my dad missed one other one. My first one went 2lbs 6ozs and was the first fish I have caught on a spinnerbait this year (new Strike King model), finally restoring my confidence in this bait a bit. My other fish came on a Konami Rattle Trap in chrome and blue. It went for about 1lbs 2ozs or so as I didn't weigh it but just guestimated. My dad caught two. I'll let him chime in on baits as I don't remember exactly what he pulled his in on. We saw a lot of bait fish activity in the cove to the left of the dam in the middle once the sun first hit. After that thed feed died down quite a bit and my dad and I couldn't buy any other hits. I had one other hit on a Zoom G Tail worm in the same cove as my first fish but it dropped it quickly as he was gone when I went to set the hook. Maybe moving the bait or something, dunno. We saw A TON of small to medium sized crappie just chillin' on the rocks at the dam making me wish I had brought my pan fish gear. They were all together in groups of 3-4 on different rocks. Maybe I'll go back out there later this week for some of those. Just thought I'd give you guys a heads up on Huntsman and so forth. The bite isn't strong but they are there. My dad also saw a decent sized carp roll in one of the coves too. I'll post the pic of my bigger fish soon. Thanks for coming out with me dad, I had a good time and it was a great way to spend time before making the dreaded commute to work. Sorry about the pic quality guys, only had the cell with me today.
  21. I need to show that pic of your new ride to my wife. Show her what other gf's are buying their significant others these days lol. Good luck to me haha! Nice boat Andrew. Looks like you got it made on these Nova lakes now. Bass watch out.
  22. Nice fish Simon. Do good on them finals and soon after you will be able to relieve even all that stress at Pony Pasture. Boy I'd hate to be one of them smallmouth on may 10th ;D Can't wait dude. We need to get out again buddy.
  23. *WITH EMPHASIS* You MUST purchase your pass at Lunga for all of these lakes. Smith Lake does not have a place to purchase your pass and will make you go back up the highway about 5 miles then down the road to the lake to get your pass. This sucks if you're pulling a boat and wanna launch by a certain time and one of the guys at the gate tells you yo're gonna need to turn around and go get it... not that I've ever had to deal with that Lol. Anyway so yea, Lunga sells the passes.
  24. Unreal... thats the lake I told you about behind Marumsco plaza dad. It is twice the size of vets and has the same layout of spadderdock, but there are two beaverdams and a small dock you can cast from. There is also an area you can put in canoes. It's actually located in Marumsco Park. Never caught a bass there but had some bites. That tiny little 3 acre lake is screwed now. If that snakehead reproduced in there or was that big god knows how many fish it killed. I never thought there were bass in there anyway though. A bunch of people of a certain ethnic group poach there ALL THE TIME. And TONS of fish. So that lake is now off my list for good.
  25. Dad, Mostly cloudy, slim chance of showers between 10-12 (only 20-30%) after that none. Temps are gonna drop to the mid 50's for most of the day with winds a bit above 10mph most of the afternoon. I'll meet you at the house after my inspection for the car and I'll call Chai after work to see if he's still in and give him directions. Hopefully we can find some fish tommorrow and put together a pattern under some less than ideal conditions. So does anyone have any info on this lake down at Quantico? Is it at all like Lunga or are the lakes fairly different in the way they are managed or setup? Do they have shad and/or bluegill in these lakes? Is the water as clear as Lunga? Though I'm sure all the rain may have muddied things up a bit. I'll throw up a report late afternoon tommorrow fellas. Tight lines this week.
